Wildlife and the Environment
What is Wildlife? Wildlife
All plants, animals, and other living things that have not been domesticated.
What is wildlife’s value Wildlife has Five basic values
Commercial Game Aesthetic Scientific Ecological
Commercial Value The value of money realized from wildlife.
Could the money generated from the sale of the animal itself, hides, horns, and other bodily parts, or the money generated from hunting trips or expeditions.
Game Value Value of an animal use as game. People who
either hunt or fish contribute to the game value of wildlife. Plants also fall into this area. The supplies needed to take game, and the revenue from hunting and fishing licenses.
Aesthetic Value No amount of money can describe the
aesthetic value of wildlife. This value will be different for each person.
Scientific Value Many animals and plants are used for
research and study. They also help people understand the environment. Deer antlers are used to measure the radiation level in the environment. Many plants and animals are used to help us fight disease and sickness.
Ecological Value Is the value of each species in nature. How
different animals and plants interact with each other and we interact with them.
All of those factors and the many living and nonliving factors found in the environment make up the ecosystem.
Renewable Natural Resource Wildlife is an example of renewable natural
resource. Meaning that they can reproduce after being used. If we overuse the resource then we will drive
wildlife into decline and extinction. If we do not use or manage the recourse we can
have an overpopulation, leading to possible damage to the ecosystem.
