This exhibition will investigate varying expressions of nostalgia and the paradox of yearning for a time and place that never was as real as when it is recalled. Experiencing the contempory art in the historically recreated and preserved rooms at Wilton House Museum will prompt visitors to think analytically about nostalgia and consider how the past, both real and imagined, impacts our lives today. Anywhere But Now is curated by art history graduate students Susan Moser and Angela Parker. This is our third exhibition in collaboration with the Virginia Commonwealth University’s Art History Department. The successful mentorship of the next generation of museum professionals with our student curators not only provids an opportunity to present their original research but to also to gain an opportunity to work with museum professionals, community supporters, and expand their professional experience. VCU Art History Department Chair Dr. Peggy Lindauer explains, “These exhibitions are far more than exercises in applying knowledge and skills gained in the classroom – insofar as they are active participants through the projects at Wilton House Museum in a nationwide reimagining of the role of historic house museums in their communities.” We hope you take advantage of this exciting opportunity to interact with the past and present at Wilton. ANYWHERE BUT NOW An Exhibition of Contemporary Art Exploring Nostalgia Opening Reception November 7, 2014 6 pm to 8 pm

Exhibit opens November 7, 2014 and closes January 15, 2015

Drawing works of art from contemporary artists and private collectors, Anywhere But Now will explore the emotions and often conflicting motivations associated with nostalgia.

A Georgian Folly

Wilton enjoyed its first SOLD OUT lecture in our programming.

On a rainy September evening, Ralph Harvard gave a most entertaining lecture on the interior design of the lovely home he designed in Tidewater, Virginia. His stories and recount of the process were both educational and fun.

A light reception followed where the attendees enjoyed sampling Ralph’s secret to a successful lecture!

Be sure to visit our website so that you can be part of the next event.
