Yard Monthofthe

WIMBLEDON CHAMPIONS

FEBRUARY

Hijacked by the Polar Vortex a.k.a. The Deep Freeze….Unfortunately our tour of the neighborhood in search of

the best gardens coincided with the latest freeze. There were lots of cold-burned plants to be seen!

So come February 6th-8th, we will be out looking for revamped gardens and blooming seasonal flowers. Snapdragons, Pansies and Alyssum are a few of the flowers that will withstand the cold temps. If it gets too cold again, a frost cloth helps to protect them.

As will happen with Texas weather, it will freeze one day and warm up to seventy degrees in a day or two. So visit our Yard of the Month sponsor, Plants For All Seasons on Louetta, and revamp your garden so you, too, may win Yard of the Month. Please remember to thank them for their sponsorship.

Happy Planting,The Yard of the Month Committee

American Heart Association Northwest Harris County

Go Red for Women LuncheonDate: Friday, March 7. 2014; 10 am

Location: Crowne Plaza Houston NorthwestMedia Contact: Kara Denney

The American Heart Association’s Northwest Harris County Go Red for Women Luncheon will be held on Friday, March 7th at The Crowne Plaza Houston Northwest. The annual event serves as a way for the Northwest Harris County community to come together to raise awareness and funds for cardiovascular disease and stroke research through the popular and engaging Go Red for Women movement. Activities at the luncheon include a silent auction, health screenings, wine tasting, a keynote speaker and more.

Many women are surprised to find that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women – taking more lives than all forms of cancer combined. In addition, heart disease is often called the “silent killer” because most women don't recognize the symptoms until it’s too late.

For more than a decade, millions of women have united to raise their voices about this deadly disease by participating in The American Heart Association's Go Red For Women

movement, which helps educate women about what they can do to live healthier lifestyles and lower their risk of heart disease and stroke.

The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement is sponsored nationally by Macy’s. Locally, the Northwest Harris County Go Red for Women luncheon sponsors include Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, North Cypress Medical Center, Harris County Emergency Corps, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Cypress, Kindred Hospital Houston Northwest, St. Luke’s Hospital at The Vintage, Tomball Regional Medical Center, Darcy Mingoia, Cypress Creek EMS, Heritage Texas Properties and Houston Methodist West Hospital. Individual tickets for the event are $100 and tables start at $1,500. For more information, please visit nwharriscountygored.heart.org or contact Kara Denney at the American Heart Association at (713) 610-5030 or at [email protected].
