WIMBLEDON CHAMPIONS

Jimmy has done more than he will tell: mainly fighting the flood people and giving them hell.

He has saved many of us a lot of bucks, yet he is still in the flood plain and that really sucks.

But jimmy says “that’s ok”, if it helped my friends, it has made my day.

This special man will never boast, but i say we raise out glass and give him a toast!!!

Thank You, JimmyLove U Man!

Allen & Joy Baker

The 2nd annual meeting was held on Thursday, December 5th with 26 residents in attendance. It was a cold, blustery night but the clubhouse was warm and full of friendly folks. The highlight of the evening was the Jimmy Watson award presentation.

Jimmy received a standing ovation as he received his plaque honoring him for all his efforts in removing our subdivision from the 100 year flood plain. There are still a few streets in it (including Jimmy) but those residents should check with their insurance company and have a new survey done of their home which may enable them to pay much lower flood insurance and possibly be put in the Preferred Risk category.

With the election of Kelli Adams to the board, the board focused on what was accomplished this first year as a resident-run board:

• The Tennis courts have been resurfaced, all new netting and wind screens installed and ready for all who enjoy tennis.

• Each of the section’s main entrances have new lighting which provides great curb appeal to all who visit and security for our residents.

• The winter color is installed and in bloom in all the common areas and entrances. The irrigation controllers were updated to provide better water management which has reduced our water cost while improving the watering of our landscape.

• Lighting in the pool/tennis area and the pool electrical/mechanical area has been either repaired or updated.

• 30+ trees in the reserves were felled to proactively prevent damage to homes and property.

• The brick wall which is aging has had some repairs to 8 columns and one panel. The board thanked those residents who, when asked, removed ivy and bushes from against the inside of the brick walls as this will help to prolong the life of the wall. Further repairs to the wall are in the budget for 2014.

January Recipe: Mushroom Asiago ChickenDIRECTIONS:

Pound chicken breast with a meat mallet between 2 sheets of waxed paper or plastic wrap until meat is uniform thickness; about 1/4-inch. Cut into serving-sized pieces (2 or 3 pieces per breast)

Heat the butter with 1 Tbs of olive oil in deep, heavy skillet or saute pan over medium heat. Dredge chicken in seasoned flour. Add to hot oil/butter in skillet. Saute until golden on each side, about 5 minutes per side. Remove from pan.

Add remaining olive oil to hot skillet. Saute mushrooms and garlic until mushrooms begin to brown. Add white wine to skillet, scraping up all the browned bits that are at the bottom of the pan (this is called "deglazing"). Bruise the fresh thyme by twisting it between your fingers or hitting it with the dull side of a knife in a few places. Add thyme to mushroom/wine mixture in pan. Add the chicken back to the pan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Remove chicken from pan. Add the cream and heat through. Add the asiago cheese (if you like it strongly flavored, use 1/2 cup; not as strongly flavored, use the 1/4 cup. Cook, stirring constantly over low heat until cheese melts. Continue cooking until sauce is reduced by about 1/2. If you wish to skip the reduction step, you may thicken the sauce slightly with about 1 tbs instant flour or 1 tbs cornstarch mixed with 2 tbs water...however, the reduction will taste better. Add chicken back to pan and heat through. Garnish with sprigs of fresh thyme. May be served over any pasta.

Bon appétit!

Hi, my name is Dwan Reed. I live at 6302 Laver Love. I am the Child & Adolescent Counselor for Montgomery County Women’s Center (battered women’s shelter). We service women and children in Spring, Conroe, and the surrounding areas. I do art and play therapy with the children, a parenting class, etc.

I am requesting the following gifts to help make the program at the shelter a success: old magazines, buttons, yarn, fabric scraps, lace, beads, plastic milk cartons, paper towel rolls, old socks, wooden spoons, glitter pens, and any craft supplies that you are not using. We also need hotel size shampoos, conditioners, and lotion to fill gift bags. If you have any unused hotel toiletries, we would love to have them.

Also, please keep the shelter residents in mind when you receive gifts you don’t want and don’t feel like returning. We

will take them off your hands and put them to good use. The shelter residents can also benefit from used clothing and shoes.

I can be contacted at the email and phone number below. Feel free to come by and drop anything that you would like at my house. If you would like a donation form for Montgomery County Women’s Center for your taxes, I can get that for you. Just let me know.

Thanks a bunch!Dwan Reed, LMSW, DTM, CARTTherapist, Freelance Writer, and Speaker, Certified Anger
