YARD OF THE MONTH
JuneCongratulations to Ed & Jan Batchelor at
6306 Sampras Ace CTThe June Yard of the Month is awarded to the Batchelor’s
home in the Park Section. The gardens in this home are full of color with mounds of red, pink and white Begonias, pink Knock-Out Roses, and yellow Broom plants and in the mailbox garden, there is deep purple Verbena. The evergreens range from the low-growing Juniper to the well-manicured Indian Hawthorn and Pittosporum spread throughout the beds with the Crepe Myrtles adding medium height. A large Oak Tree lends its shade to a garden of Pink and White Begonias mixed with mounds of Ivy. There are two varieties of Crotons adding mixed color to the garden. Jan is the master gardener at this home and her back yard is even more striking with its
foliage. As appreciation for their efforts, Ed and Jan will receive a $50.00 gift certificate from Plants For All Seasons and their address highlighted as Yard of the Month on the marquee on Cypresswood Dr. See the color version of this home on the Peelinc.com/newsletters website.

Tex-Mex Cornbread SaladIngredients:• 1 batch of sweet cornbread (I used a packaged mix)• 1/2 lb. bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled• 1 bell pepper, chopped• 1 small sweet onion, diced• 2 roma tomatoes, diced• 1 14 oz. can of corn, drained• 1/2 cup mayo• 1/2 cup Salsa (Medium) any flavor you like!
June Recipe
Directions:Crumble the cooled cornbread into a large bowl (chunks
should be no larger than an inch square). Add bacon, bell pepper, onion, tomatoes, and corn to the bowl and toss gently. In a small bowl, mix mayo and salsa together until they are well combined. Gently mix the salsa mayo mixture into the cornbread mix, taking care to leave some chunks of cornbread. Be careful not to add additional salsa as the corn bread could become soggy!
Chill for at least 2 hours, or until ready to serve.
Bon appétit! If you would like to share a recipe with your WC neighbors,
please call Kelli Adams at 281-374-6246 or email to [email protected].

Due to recent car burglaries in the Traditional Section of Wimbledon Champions, the H O A Board of Directors wanted to remind everyone of what we can do to protect our belongings. Going right to the expert, we have chosen some excerpts from articles by Lt. R. Glaze in his “Constable’s Corner” in previous issues of the Wimbledon Champions’ Telegraph.
Regarding car burglaries:“My biggest concern is how these criminals are entering the cars.
The common denominator, in almost every incident we investigated, was that the vehicle was UNLOCKED! What’s worse is the type of property left in several of these UNLOCKED cars included I-Pods, laptops, wallets, purses, briefcases, HANDGUNS and other assorted items. And most of these items were left in plain view for everyone to see…
…I can’t stress to everyone enough that you need to lock your vehicle doors and set the alarm. Please do not leave valuable items in plain view. As I mentioned, most of these cars were unlocked but don’t think for a second that if a criminal sees a valuable item lying in sight that they won’t force entry into the car to get it.”
Since we know there have been burglars in our area, a few reminders from Lt. Glaze for your home:
“Just as you lock your vehicle, you should lock your home when away from it. Also set the alarm, even if you leave for a few minutes. Remember, it’s always possible that a burglar has been watching houses in the area. If they see you leave in a hurry or at the same time every day, they may assume that you left without locking up….It only takes an experienced criminal a few minutes to break in and steal items. The best advice that I can give is to follow this motto, “If you leave it, lock it”. If you see suspicious activity, please call it in.”
Remember, if you are leaving for a trip use the Sheriff’s Office Vacation Watch Program. That way, they will monitor your residence if you are away. Call the Sheriff’s, non-emergency number 713-221-6000 and select option 1. We are located in District 1. They will take your info (i.e. name, address, dates you will be away, if you have lights on timers, vehicles in driveway, emergency numbers, etc.). This will be faxed to the substation and patrols scheduled to check your home while you are away. We are not eligible for the Constable’s Vacation Watch Program. Have a wonderful, safe summer!
