As we approach the end of the year, it’s the festive and busy season. Festive, because Diwali has just gone
by, Christmas and New Year are round the corner.
Meanwhile, the second quarter results were declared and the company delivered a satisfactory financial performance.
Earnings of Sugar business improved as the margins turned positive vs. last year and the Chlor vinyl business had
stable earnings in Q2. Decline in interest costs also contributed to higher earnings during the quarter.
The Chlor-alkali capacity expansion and technology upgradation project at Bharuch has been completed. This is
indeed a milestone that makes us feel proud, because it was done in record time and within the allocated capital
budget. Our congratulations to the entire Chemicals Team. The Bharuch Plant is now based on the latest technology
which is 15-20% more energy efficient, and is part of the ongoing process to build a robust and stable business.
The Sugar industry is witnessing positive returns over the last few quarters led by improvement in sugar prices to
a reasonable level. The bagasse based cogeneration power capacity will be expanded from 94 MW to 108 MW by
Dec 2016. We are also setting up a 150 KLPD distillery to be commissioned by Dec 2017. This integration will provide
stability to the earnings of the Sugar business going forward.
The Bioseed and Farm Solutions Businesses have seen better volumes in the second quarter vs. same period last year.
Fenesta has recorded encouraging volumes with traction being witnessed in both the ‘Retail’ and ‘Projects’ segment.
Expansion of the fabrication capacity is being undertaken with an investment of Rs 18.5 Cr.
The company conducted another successful Fenesta Open National Championship in Oct 2016. This tournament is
a reflection of our commitment to sports and it is widely recognized as a platform for spotting young talent with
potential. This year, Dakshineshwar Suresh from Chennai and Salsa Aher from Pune emerged as Champions in the
under - 16 category for boys and girls respectively. They showed immense grit and courage, and we hope to see them
representing the country one day.
On the 8th of November, Government of India demonetised the Rs.1000 and Rs.500 notes. This would definitely help in
bringing better transparency in the economic activities of the country. Along with the proposed GST implementation,
we feel these measures would give a strong boost to economic growth and job creation in the medium and long term,
inspite of some pressures emerging in the short term to adjust to the new working environment.
Finally as the year winds down, we would like to wish all of you and your families a Very Happy New Year and may
2017 bring Happiness, Joy and Good Health to all.
CHAIRMAN AND VICE CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE
Mr. Ajay S. Shriram addressing the audience at Fenesta Open
Ever since 1998, DCM Shriram has been organising
the National Hardcourt Tennis Championship, later
renamed as the FENESTA OPEN NATIONAL TENNIS
CHAMPIONSHIP in 2011. Today, it is undoubtedly the
best tribute to DCM Shriram’s policy of promoting
sports by providing the sporting talent a platform to
rise and shine in the world of sports.
The beginning of Fenesta Open National Tennis
Championship can be traced back to 1992, when DCM
Shriram stepped forward to organise an Open Tennis
Championship for Delhi State under the aegis of the All

organising capabilities of DCM Shriram and observing
a steady increase in participation year after year, the
All India Tennis Association had concluded in 1998
that the company was fully competent to organise the
NATIONAL HARDCOURT TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP.
