Winscribe Citrix XenApp and Terminal Services Installation Guide

Winscribe integrates with Citrix XenApp or Terminal Services servers allowing Winscribe client software to be centralized on the Citrix or Terminal Services host. Applications or Desktops can be streamed via Citrix Browser / Desktop connections or via Terminal Services remote sessions.

Audio and Input Device Configuration This configuration requires Winscribe client software to be installed on the host (which automatically installs the required Server connector components as part of the Winscribe client software install).

The remote client computer requires a Winscribe Thin Client connector to be installed. The Winscribe Thin Client allows Digital Voice Recorders to be detected when they are docked on the client machine, and transfer audio files contained on them to the Citrix or Terminal Services Server. From there, the Winscribe Importer can be used to import these files into Winscribe.

Additionally, the remote client computer requires appropriate Philips or Olympus remote session drivers to be installed. These drivers enable the centralized client applications to interact with the remote computer hardware (sound cards and connected peripherals).

Installation of the client applications, Winscribe Thin Client, and manufacturer remote session drivers require administrative privileges.

Citrix XenDesktop Citrix XenDesktop is a different product to Citrix XenApp. The information in this guide relates to configuration for Citrix XenApp only.

XenApp delivers applications and desktops on a client computer but they are virtual representations of applications or desktops running on the host server. XenApp requires audio and hardware 'connectors' at the server and client end for input devices to interact.

XenDesktop delivers a truly visualized desktop over the network. USB input devices are connected to the virtual desktop as HID devices, offering the same behavior as you would expect when connecting devices to a locally install desktop operating system.

Citrix XenDesktop is supported by Winscribe v4.2. It does not require the configuration described in this guide.

Copying Audio from Digital Voice Recorders

When a Terminal Services or Citrix XenApp session to the server has been established on a client machine, audio files found on digital voice recorders connected to the client machine will be automatically transferred off the digital portable to the Terminal Services or Citrix Server if the following are true:

The Virtual Channel Client Configuration tool has been run for the user account on the client machine and "Enable import of digital portable audio" has been enabled

Winscribe Author, Winscribe Internet Author, or Winscribe Client is running in the Citrix or Terminal Services session when the Digital Voice Recorder is docked with the client machine

The files on the device that are intended to be imported do not have read-only attributes

Similar to the Winscribe Importer in operation, when a Digital Voice Recorder is docked to the client workstation you will hear the audio prompt "Copying files from dictation device". When the copy is complete, you will hear the audio prompt "Copying complete". If no files are found on the device, you will hear the audio prompt "No files found for copying".

If there are multiple drives on the device, for example an Olympus DS7000, multiple prompts will be heard — one set of prompts for each drive.

To enable or disable the import feature or to enable or disable files being deleted from the device after copying, launch the Virtual Channel Client Configurator tool.

1. Click Start | Programs | Winscribe | Tools

2. Click Virtual Channel Client Configuration

Importing Uploaded Files The files uploaded from Digital Voice Recorders are placed in an "Upload" folder. The folder location is defined by the UserWorkingDirectory path of the Winscribe client application. By default, this path is:

C:\ProgramData\Winscribe\Users\Upload

Use Winscribe Importer to point to the Upload folder as a Source to import the files into the Winscribe Digital Dictation system.

Limitations & Technical Notes

DS-4000 & Virtual Channel Import Olympus Digital Voice Recorders operate in two modes:

Tethered

Mass Storage

The DS-4000 can only operate in one mode at any time. When a DS-4000 is connected to a client machine that has Winscribe Author or Winscribe Client running, the DS-4000 may connect as either Tethered or Mass Storage.

If the device connects as Tethered then importing over the virtual channel will not occur.

If the device connects as Mass Storage, then controlling Winscribe Author / Internet Author by using the buttons/slider on the DS-4000 would not be possible.

If you are connecting the device to a client machine where Winscribe Client is running, it will always operate as a mass storage device and thus import over the virtual channel would be successful.

If connecting to a client machine running Winscribe Author or Internet Author, Winscribe applications may see the DS-4000 as a control device and request the DS-4000 run as Tethered mode. Virtual channel import would then not be possible.

Active / Disconnected Sessions It is not currently possible for hardware events to operate on devices when "picking up" an active session from another computer.

For example, a user cannot launch Winscribe Author and use it on Computer A, disconnect the remote session on Computer A, and then go to Computer B and reconnect the session, grabbing the active session that was opened by Computer A. If a user does this, hardware events from a device are unlikely to work. Winscribe Author would need to be closed and opened again on Computer B to establish a new connection.

LED Lights not functional with Philips SpeechMikes Philips have yet to implement LED light support for remote sessions. This feature is expected in a future Philips Speech Driver release.

If two Philips devices are connected simultaneously, only one device operates There is currently an issue that prevent two Philips devices functioning simultaneously. Only one of the two devices will respond.
