As we begin 2020, the acvies are not slowing down! Our monthly coding webinars connue and the Legal Manual Commiee meengs are scheduled. MHIMA will also have representaon in Washington D.C. at the AHIMA Advocacy Summit in March. The Markeng & Communicaon commiee along with the Annual Meeng Commiee connue to work diligently to plan our annual meeng at Treasure Island Resort and Casino at the end of April; this is an event you will not want to miss!! Informaon regarding registraon will be coming out soon. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact me or the MHIMA Execuve Director and we will get you connected to the appropriate commiee or project chair(s). All of the regional meengs this past fall were well aended and featured some great speakers and content. Thank you to our regional board members and volunteers for pung on these successful events. The Nominang Commiee has been busy finalizing the vong ballot of members to fill open posions for the 2020-2021 Board of Directors, as well as for our 2020 Disnguished Member, Rising Star Professional, and Outstanding Student. In closing, I would like to extend my thanks to all of you for your dedicaon to our associaon! We had a wonderful 2019 and I am so excited to see what 2020 brings. President’s Message Here we are at the start of a new decade, the end of January, and only a

couple months of winter to go. As we begin 2020, the activities are not

slowing down! Our monthly coding webinars continue and the Legal

Manual Committee meetings are scheduled. MHIMA will also have

representation in Washington D.C. at the AHIMA Advocacy Summit in

March. The Marketing & Communication committee along with the

Annual Meeting Committee continue to work diligently to plan our

annual meeting at Treasure Island Resort and Casino at the end of April;

this is an event you will not want to miss!! Information regarding

registration will be coming out soon. If you are interested in

volunteering, please contact me or the MHIMA Executive Director and

we will get you connected to the appropriate committee or project

chair(s). All of the regional meetings this past fall were well attended

and featured some great speakers and content. Thank you to our

regional board members and volunteers for putting on these successful

events. The Nominating Committee has been busy finalizing the voting

The Nominating Committee is seeking recommendations for individuals deserving of recognition as a MHIMA Achievement Award recipient. Nomination is a great way to recognize excellence at every level within our association. All eligible nominations for our Distinguished Member, Rising Star Professional, and Outstanding Student are welcomed. The deadline for receipt of nominations is Friday, February 14th. Distinguished Member: This award honors those whose dedication

to the profession has been demonstrated through exemplary work,

service, achievement or lasting contribution to the HIM profession in a

tangible way.

Eligibility: Nominees must have been an active member of MHIMA for five (5) years or

longer and whose record of contributions to our field is truly exceptional. Qualified

nominees must be MHIMA members at the time of nomination, and have made an

outstanding contribution to our profession in one or more of the following leadership

areas: volunteer service to our organization, outstanding achievement in professional

practice, dedication to education, contributions in research or published materials.

Rising Star Professional: This award recognizes professionals new to the field who

demonstrates progressive leadership in and commitment to the future of the HIM profession.

Eligibility: Nominees must be an active member of MHIMA and be employed in an

HIM-related field or position. Nominees must have earned and maintained at least one

AHIMA-approved credential, and have been employed for five (5) year or less from the

date of credential award. Nominees must have demonstrated leadership and commitment

to the future of the HIM profession through excellence in the workplace and/or

participation in local, regional, state, or national related HIM activities.

Outstanding Student: This award recognizes students who are demonstrating excellence,

leadership and commitment to the HIM profession and their future career.

Eligibility: Nominees must be a student member of MHIMA, currently enrolled in and

beyond the first 2 quarters or semesters in their CAHIIM accredited program or AHIMA

approved coding program, at a grade point equivalent of 3.5 or higher out of 4.0, and have

demonstrated the qualities of leadership and commitment to the profession.

Recipients will be recognized at the 2020 Annual Meeting in Welch, MN, on Thursday, April 30th. All nominations must be submitted via the online form on the MHIMA website: https://www.mnhima.org/members/achievement-awards/. Mary Juenemann MHIMA President-Elect & Nominating Committee Chair

2020 Scholarships Students, it's time to complete your application for a 2020 MHIMA Scholarship! New this year is our online application, which can be found by going to: https://www.mnhima.org/resources/scholarships/. Eligibility: ALL of the following requirements MUST be met. AHIMA member with Minnesota designated as their component

state association Enrolled in an in-state or out-of-state CAHIIM accredited HIM

program (unless doctoral) Applicants must have completed 50% of the total required

program credits from one of the following programs: Health Information

Management associate, baccalaureate, or master’s degree

Doctoral program related to HIM in a college or university nationally accredited (does not need to be CAHIIM accredited to qualify)

Cumulative GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) Applicants must have at least one term left to complete or be

enrolled in their last term at time of award date Applicant must not have previously won a MHIMA Scholarship in

the category for which they are applying

Application process: Complete and submit the online application, including the

following required documents at time of submission: Letter of recommendation from a faculty advisor, faculty

member or mentor Written essay of between 300-700 words under the title:

“How I Will Use This Degree to Advance the HIM Profession.”

Official school grade transcript indicating your cumulative GPA

Have your Program Director complete the online verification form certifying your educational requirements

Scholarship winners will be recognized at our 2020 Annual Meeting. ALL application materials MUST be COMPLETE and submitted TOGETHER by Wednesday, March 11th. If you are eligible, we encourage you to consider this opportunity! Lori Diederichs MHIMA Delegate Director & Scholarship Committee Chair
