In order to improve the surface qualityof wire rods, the surfaces of the
materials, billets, are descaled byshot blasting.
And after inspecting any surface flawand imperfection by a magnetic
particle tester, the flaws are removedfrom the surface by using a grindingmachine. In addition, the continuous
ultrasonic testing is conducted toguarantee the internal quality of the
billets.

1Billet
Conditioning
In order to secure the quality of materialsaccording to each kind of steel and
application, the heating temperature andresidence time of the reheating furnaceare adjusted accordingly. Especially, after preheating the wire rods at a low
temperature in order to preventdecarburization from deciding thesurface quality, they are reheated
quickly at a proper rolling temperaturerange. At this time, the rolling speed and
the fuel-to-air ratio in the reheatingfurnace are controlled properly.
2ReheatingFurnace
The material characteristics requiredby the clients are secured by
adjusting the rolling temperature, pressure and deformation rate of wire
rods. And then, the roll surfaceroughness, gap and the sizes areadjusted while conducting the flawinspection in hot-rolled wire rods.
3Rolling
The characteristics of each kind of steelfor each appropriate application issecured by adjusting the cooling
conditions, such as coiling temperature, air floor volume of the air cooling system, the progression velocity, and the opening
or closing of a slow-cooling section. In the case of high carbon steel wire rods,
the structure gets refined and the roddrawability is secured by using a uniform
fast-cooling method. In cases of alloysteel and low carbon steel, softened
structures are created by a slow-coolingprocedure in order to streamline the wirerod manufacturing process for the client’s
companies.
4Cooling
After collecting specimens from theleading and trailing edges of a wirerod cooled after being rolled, somesurface flaw detection and material
quality assurance tests areconducted with such specimens and
the products are packed afterattached with a tag while fulfilling
each client’s requirements.

MANUFACTURINGPROCESS M A N U F A C T U R I N G P R O C E S S
Since the inspections during all the productionprocesses from steelmaking via billet rolling to wirerod rolling are accurately conducted by thecomputers, all the products appropriate for eachdimension are produced. In addition, in order toproduce much superior wire rods, it is thus managedin order for this company to deliver the perfect qualityof goods through various kinds of final product andwire rod inspections.
