The fiord land national park is a humongous 1.2million hectares in size, lots of animals have adapted to living in these mountains. The Takahe is an example of a bird that developed to be much larger and flightless compared to its distant cousins in the rail species. The Takahe was in fact thought to be extinct for more than forty years before it was rediscovered in the mountains of Fiord land in 1948.
In fiord land there is a total of 14 fiords in this area!
Tallest mountain in New Zealand is 3,754 meters high and is called mount cook
