The $70.7 million Mudgee Hospital Redevelopment
project has announced Amber Hooper’s Day Break
Dash is the winner of the photo competition.
The judges were delighted by the response of
artists in our region in offering their generous time
in support of the hospital’s environment and
courage to share their personal moments with
others.
The Hospital is excited to be able to include the
community as part of the redevelopment.
47 entries were received which made for lively
discussion, particularly given the high quality of
images submitted.
The winning artwork was judged by local
community members John Bentley, Mudgee Health
Council Representative; Jo-Anne Whitson, Hospital
Redevelopment Project Officer and Caren Harrison,
Mudgee Health Service Manager.
Day Break Dash was selected as the winning work
after much deliberation. The committee considered
the technical skill of the image, the artist’s ability to
use form, colour and light to shape the image and its
authentic interpretation of the Mudgee region.
It was also important to consider how the images
would complement the physical parameters of the
Hospital’s main entry area, and create a sense of
calm, respite and hope in an environment where
many can find themselves at their most vulnerable.
The sense of calm from the rising fog and a sense of
hope in a new day dawning are complemented with a
spirit of animation, journey and energy from the
kangaroos in the selected image.
Amber Hooper’s winning entry, Day Break Dash will be on display in the new hospital’s main entry.

in the local community and completed two local
community projects. They worked with the Mudgee
PCYC to provide an upgrade of the Pool Gym
Corridor and kitchen, and surprised Mudgee PCYC
with a $7500 donation.
Member for Dubbo, Dugald Saunders joined
Hutchinson Builders, Mudgee PCYC, Local Police,
hospital staff and community members to showcase
the completed project and demonstrate how
redevelopment’s provide positive economic and
social flow on effects within regional communities.
