Welcometo the ASAC 33rd Annual Construction Industry and Excellence in Safety Awards! I’m so happy you are here and that I will get to see you and talk with you a bit. The evening gets swallowed up with activity, so seek me out and say hello. If we should miss each other, give me a call in the coming days and let’s schedule a coffee or lunch, I’d love to catch up.

About this evening, this is the 33rd Annual Construction Industry and Excellence in Safety Awards Gala. It has been our pleasure and honor to recognize and award individuals and companies for some time.Did you know that the number ‘three’ (3) is significant? So, double 3’s is a really big deal! Did you know the odds of rolling doubles three times in a row is 1/216? It’s said that things happen in 3’s. In Christianity 3 symbolizes the Trinity; Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer and has come to represent wholeness or completeness. In Judaism, 3 represents the merging of one and two; or two opposite and complete values. We think of time as past, present and future. Our effort is rewarded with the third time is a charm. Our very existence is characterized as birth, life and death. Initiatives are marked by a beginning, middle and end. Our high definition, 3D world comes together in three primary colors; red, yellow and blue. We’re motivated to act by the three-thumb rule that says to avoid criticism: say nothing, do nothing and be nothing. And this one I really like, the three Borromean Rings, rings that are interlocked because they are bent and come together in a way that cannot be separated, if any single ring is removed the remaining two fall apart. It is fun and inspiring to look at ordinary things, understand a deeper meaning and see them in new and different ways. It makes life richer, more significant. There is more that I could say about the number 3, let’s say that #33 is doubly more significant and powerful. So, here we are at the ASAC 33rd and it is a very big deal to be here with you tonight.

I hope that you never look at the number 3 the same way again and that you are enriched to know that whatever significance you attach to the number 3 that you ‘feel’ complete, that opposites make for powerful potential, our past positions us for the present and the present gives us opportunity to make for a better future, persistence and tenacity are rewarded, nothing holds more promise than you, all projects and people have stages of development, infinite combinations deliver infinite possibilities, setbacks are life lessons that push us to seek out the better ‘something’ that is waiting for us. And, this one I really like, flexibility makes us strong and we remain strong when we stand together.Tonight, we are here together celebrating what we have in common and what we share. It is my hope you meet someone for the first time, get to know an acquaintance a bit better and greet a friend with a smile. Thank you for coming!

the Board of Directors, Staff and Colorado Construction Industry, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for attending this evening. The ASAC Annual Gala is a time where we celebrate our industry at a premium Denver venue. It was August 2011 when the Colorado construction industry celebrated the opening of this venue, Mile High Stadium.ASAC is an association of subcontractors, suppliers, professional associates and general contractors. Collectively, we are partners that work to improve and positively impact the Colorado Construction Industry. Individually, participation and support are more personal. I suggest . . .

Subcontractors | ASAC is the only association that asks first, “What does a Sub need to be a successful business, to be profitable? Of all the information and resources that are available today via the internet, what is essential and what is optional? As a stakeholder in the construction economy, how do I passively and actively participate and support my company and my industry? How and where does support of industry and community make sense?”Suppliers | ASAC recognizes that the ethic and integrity of industry suppliers is at the core of the construction business operations. Suppliers are equal stakeholders in the construction process and are equal in benefits and opportunity at ASAC. Thank you to the Suppliers who support their customers and the industry by investing in ASAC!Professional Associates | ASAC works with Professional Associates who understand investment and have been here for many years, these individuals and organizations serve ASAC in all areas of leadership and support and are equal in benefits and opportunity at ASAC. Associate members who are personally and professionally successful at ASAC are those who make a commitment to invest. Thank you to the Professional Associates who support their customers through the support of ASAC!General Contractors | ASAC General Contractors are Partners. ASAC GC Partners embrace Partnerships where both individuals and businesses are regarded equally. At ASAC it is through a partnership that the results are profitable and professional. Construction is fraught with complications and unforeseen obstacles and the solution can be found in the relationship between Subcontractor and General Contractor. I look forward to the events and activities of the evening. I encourage you to learn more about the ASAC Paula Anzell-Morris Celebration of Life Scholarship. This scholarship meets two of the ASAC 2018 initiatives: workforce development and workforce diversity and recognizes a woman who characterizes the values and ethics we all strive toward.Congratulations to the nominees, finalists and the award winners in the Construction Industry Awards, Excellence in Safety Awards, Legacy, Top Performer and Up and Coming Women of Construction Awards and giving deserving recognition to our BTAC Partners.

When you think of Karen Poole it is of a woman that pioneered the way for women to become a presence in the construction industry.Karla Nugent, Business Dev Officer Karla is responsible for the company’s business development, marketing, and preconstruction departments. Because of that, she probably boasts with more pride than anyone with where we are at today, and deservedly so! Becky has always been somewhat of a motherly figure within our office, the first one there to support you, but she’s not afraid to put you in check when it’s needed. Either way, it’s all out of love! She has always been a shining light, a breath of fresh air in an industry where she’s always been surrounded by men. Today she loves seeing and mentoring successful women in construction around her.

What he did not expect, and has come to be one of his favorite parts of the job, is the constant collaboration, relationship building, and partnering with subcontractors necessary to set projects up for success. Andy practices what AP leadership preaches that our subcontractors are the company’s backbone and takes pride in treating them as a member of the AP team. He is a core estimator for the municipal, recreation, and K-12 markets, and enjoys working with communities due to the challenge of finding creative solutions to build the best possible project for their often publicly funded budgets.
