Dear Woodland Families! Winter is here and the kids are excited! I am not sure I am as much! I hope you are all enjoy- ing the seasons in Wisconsin. It is truly a beautiful place to be. Your children have been busy as readers, writers, mathematicians, and most importantly, as problem solvers. We have wit- nessed major growth and I hope you too have experienced this at home. Our vision continues to be, Students will grow as problem solvers to reach their potential in academics, arts and co -curriculars.We live by this each day and let this guide our work so that each and every child gets exactly what they need, each minute of every day. I am sure you are anxious for our Parent/Teacher Conferences coming up in the next few weeks. We are too! These conference times are great opportunities for face-to-face dialogue between you and your childs teacher. As these conferences go extremely fast, I encourage you to reach out to your childs teacher ahead of time, and after, to continue the open commu- nication that we have with all of our families. Keeping you in the loopon your childs learning is critical to the success and growth we want for all kids. I encourage you to reach out often, especially if you have a question or concern, or are simply curious about how your child is do- ing. We value this! As a parent myself, I know how busy life can get between the school day, after-school activi- ties, and homework! There are times that my wife and I ask if were are going to make it! Life is super busy for all of us so we appreciate keeping conversation, learning, reflecting, and reading as important pieces to your childs day after school. Fifteen minutes of reading and talking about the text each night adds up to a significant amount of reading and learing each year. Thank you for your continued commitment to your childs learning. We appreciate it and certainly can feel the impact of this important work at school. Connued on Page Two in

Dear Woodland Families!

Winter is here and the kids are excited! I am not sure I am as much! I hope you are all enjoy-ing the seasons in Wisconsin. It is truly a beautiful place to be. Your children have been busy as readers, writers, mathematicians, and most importantly, as problem solvers. We have wit-nessed major growth and I hope you too have experienced this at home. Our vision continues to be, “Students will grow as problem solvers to reach their potential in academics, arts and co-curriculars.” We live by this each day and let this guide our work so that each and every child gets exactly what they need, each minute of every day.

I am sure you are anxious for our Parent/Teacher Conferences coming up in the next few weeks. We are too! These conference times are great opportunities for face-to-face dialogue between you and your child’s teacher. As these conferences go extremely fast, I encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher ahead of time, and after, to continue the open commu-nication that we have with all of our families. Keeping you “in the loop” on your child’s learning is critical to the success and growth we want for all kids. I encourage you to reach out often, especially if you have a question or concern, or are simply curious about how your child is do-ing. We value this!

As a parent myself, I know how busy life can get between the school day, after-school activi-ties, and homework! There are times that my wife and I ask if were are going to make it! As we enter the winter months, please remember to send your children with warm clothes for re-cess time. Our general rule is that any clothing that students come to school wearing, are re-quired for them to wear outside at recess. Thank you again for your continued support of our school. As we approach Thanksgiving, I am thankful for such a caring community, and specifical-ly for you giving us your children to be part of our school. I hope to see many of you at our “Breakfast with a Buddy” on November 27th! Woodland is a great place to learn and I am so ex-cited that your children are part of it!

Sincerely,

Timothy M. Doleysh, Ph.D.

WEATHER CANCELLATIONS

Winter is right around the corner. If weather conditions dictate that there will be no school or a delayed start, a decision to keep the schools closed is usually made by 6:00 a.m. Parents with students in school receive a direct call, text and/or email from our auto-call system through Infinite Campus since that is the fastest way to communicate with thousands of parents at one time.

As a reminder: If you have a new phone number or email address, please update your infor-mation in the Infinite Campus parent portal or contact your school’s secretary to update the por-tal. Also, weather alerts go out using the "General Notification" make sure you have the "General" box checked when verifying your Infinite Campus notifications. Announcements are also sent to local T.V. and radio stations, please tune to local stations such as these rather than call the school directly: WAPL-105.7FM, WIXX-101.1FM, WHBY-1150AM, WKFX-104.9FM, WEMI-91.9 FM, WTAQ-97.5FM/1360AM, WWWX-96.9FM and WGEE-93.5FM; and WBAY-TV2, WFRV-TV5, WGBA-TV26, and WLUK-FOX11. If other school events, such as concerts or sporting events are also cancelled because of weather, they are typically communicated through these stations as well.

The District’s website and Facebook page are not our primary way to communicate school clo-sures, so we ask parents to listen to the auto-call messages or tune in to the radio and T.V. sta-tions listed for the timeliest updates.

Page 5: WOODLAND ELEMENTARY NEWSLETTER November 13, 2019 … · Woodland is a great place to learn and I am so ex-cited that your children are part of it! ... students then may be on this

During the winter months, the following outerwear is expected for our students dur-ing recess:

Students are expected to wear all outerwear that comes from home (hats, gloves, mittens, snow pants, boots, etc.)

Students are expected to wear snow pants and boots if they intend to play on any snow-covered area during recess. This includes the blacktop when it is snow-covered or wet.

In the event that the black top is completely clear of snow and slush, students then may be on this location in their "everyday" shoes.

Students who do not have the appropriate outerwear during snow-covered recess times will be asked to stay on the sidewalk.

Thank you for your support with this. These expectations limit the wet pants, shoes, and socks that students get when not dressed appropriate-ly, and helps them avoid having those wet clothes for the duration of the school day.

Planning is underway for our annual Family Fun Night (BINGO and Basket Raffle) which will be on February 28, 2020. This is the only other PTO fundraising event for the year, with proceeds this year going to new signage in the halls and gym. We need your help to make our Family Fun Night a success! Each year, each class puts a themed raffle basket together from donated items. While nothing will be collected until after the holidays, we want you to know your theme early to take advantage of sales and ads. Below are the themes listed by teacher. Students can bring in items for their classroom baskets AFTER the holidays and until January 29th. Keep an eye out for more information coming home from your Room Parent. We’ll also post ideas for each basket at the PTO website: www.woodland.my-pto.org Thank you!

We are encouraging school and community members to become the eyes and ears of the Kimberly Area School District in order to provide information that keeps our students, staff and schools safe.

It sometimes can be difficult to define:• Take your time to pay attention to your

surroundings and to the behaviors of others around you.

• Know what suspicious or concerning behaviors look like.

• Does the activity look strange to you?• Are you worried someone you know is thinking about hurting others or themselves?

Report it, don’t just repeat it.
