We thank our School Councilllors for braving the cold, chilly weather and taking time away from their families to sit on School Concil. One of the issues raised was parking around the school, and the safety of our students. PLEASE HELP to keep everyone safe – and your hard-earned cash in your pockets! We recognise that parking close to school is a problem but we are asking for your patience and help to keep everyone safe. PLEASE: park only in designated spaces on the streets and in the Powell Drive car park do not park in ‘No Standing’ zones or on nature strips or driveways PLEASE DO NOT PARK in the bin/skip area in Madison Drive. We’ve had a couple of near misses as people have reversed out without seeing children behind them use the drop/pick-up and go area in Warringa Crescent if possible park a little further away and walk; bonus exercise! We all have a responsibility to keep everyone safe. Council Parking Officers and Police will be patrolling and they will issue fines. No excuses accepted. Thank you for your cooperation. Literacy Week Fun

During Literacy and Numeracy week, the year 3/4 students were lucky enough to have hilarious author Susan Berran come to visit our school. During the day, Susan ran an incredible workshop that taught students to believe in their writing and drawing abilities. The students were really engaged throughout the session and would love her to visit again soon!

Senior School – 5/6 Team News

Measurement Madness!

The students in Year 5/6 have enjoyed their week exploring measurement and in particular building on their knowledge of cm and metre squared. Students were able to construct a metre squared and make accurate predictions of area around the school. Students are now moving onto volume, and will investigate layers and the total volume of cubes.

Hoop Time 2019

Yesterday some 5/6 students represented Woodville Primary School in the Senior Hoop Time Basketball tournament at Eagle Stadium in Werribee. There were three teams: the Warriors, the Wallabies and the All Stars. Tennace played for the Wallabies and Kyyamba played for the All Stars. It was intense but so much fun! All teams played four games, except the All Stars who had played in a finals game as well. It was a hard tournament, but we all played our very best, played as a team and put in a lot of effort. All of our teams improved throughout the day and really played to the best of their abilities. The All Stars won three out of five games, the Wallabies won one of their games and the Warriors tried their best, but unfortunately could not get a win. Thank you to McBride, Mr. T and Ms. Gibbens for taking us on a great adventure! Thank you to Eagle Stadium for letting us play there. By Kyyamba and Tennace

1/2 Team News

Science Day Students in years 1 and 2 enjoyed our whole school Science Day last Wednesday. The children were treated to a day of fun and engaging activities that enabled them to create and investigate a variety of science phenomena. Some of the activities included: Life Cycle of a Butterfly – Biology The students learnt the scientific names for each stage of a butterfly’s life. They created their own representations of the cycle using paper plates and pasta. Newspaper Chairs – Engineering The students were challenged to create a standing chair out of newspaper that would hold a doll. The children were encouraged to learn from their design mistakes and make changes where necessary.

Spinning Tops – Engineering The students made their own spinning colour wheel where

they watched the magic of the colours swirling together.

Pancake Making – Chemistry This activity was the students’ favourite by far! Mr Micallef helped the students to observe chemical changes, while also filling their stomachs.

Literacy and Numeracy Family Night

Last night we held our annual Literacy & Numeracy Family night. It was wonderful to see so many students and their families attend this event and participate in the fun, engaging and educational Literacy & Numeracy activities. Some of them included Plickers, Guided Drawing, Footy Fun Maths, Bucket Toss, Uno, Retro games, Harry Potter Trivia, Puzzles, a photo booth, ping-pong, book mark making, a scavenger hunt, Boggle and many more. Special thanks to Mel Cooper and Lis Gilchrist, and the Literacy & Numeracy Curriculum working groups, and all of the staff members who gave up their time to make the night amazing!
