/5Your Task:King Richard III and Leicester City have little in common, or do they? From the date Richard III was re-buried in Leicester Cathedral, Leicester City won 30 games, drew 13 and lost just four! Read the information below regarding Richard III and Leicester City and answer the questions that relate to the text.

1485-1884In 1485, King Richard III died in the Battle of Bosworth. He’s buried quickly in a church in Leicester Town. Just under 400 years later, in 1884, Leicester Fosse form in a garden shed.

25 August, 2012A team from the University of Leicester start to dig up a car park in the city centre. They’re hoping to find a clue to King Richard III’s whereabouts. On day two of the dig, they find two leg bones… On that same day, Jamie Vardy scores his first league goal for the Foxes.

1 September, 2012 - 5 September, 2012Fast-forward a month later and Ben Marshall, a former winger for the Foxes, scored the winner against Blackpool at King Power Stadium. The game is scrappy, but they dig-out the win: just as the team at the carpark, little over a mile away, are doing so. They are about to take out a full skeleton.

February 2013 In February, the team perform a test on the skeleton and confirm it is King Richard III. Leicester City have less good news, as a loss against Peterborough sees the season take a frustrating turn for Nigel Pearson’s side.

May 2014After a 10-year wait, City are promoted to the Premier League as champions in May 2014. The team go on a open-top bus tour to celebrate. Also celebrating are the King Richard III team, after a battle about where the King will be buried, the High Court say it will be in Leicester!

21 March, 2015 - 22 March, 2015City’s first season back in the Premier League looks to be ending badly. On 21 March, 2015, they lose to Spurs 4-3 and are bottom of the table. The following day, the King Richard III team start his reburial, and there’s something in the air…

4 April, 2015Come 4 April, 2015, the King is at peace and sealed away in his tomb at Leicester Cathedral. Leicester City, on the other hand, were alive and kicking. A win over West Ham, with our very own Andy King scoring the winner, starts the Greatest of Escapes…

16 May, 2015It is suggested that it took 90 minutes in the Battle of Bosworth for the King to meet his gruesome death. Ninety minutes of tense deadlock decides Leicester City’s fate, too. They draw 0-0 away at Sunderland and survive! Celebrations all over again.

7 May, 2016The story continues, and on 7 May, 2016, Leicester City hold the Premier League trophy. From the date the King was re-buried to the end of the 2015/16 title-winning season, Leicester City Football Club won 30 games, drew 13 and lost just Four. The Richard III story is complete!
