What better way to teach the fundamentals of electronics and programming?” The afternoon team won third place in the dance portion of the competition.

LOCAL SCHOOLS COMPETE IN COMPETITION

Twenty-eight teams from 14 area schools competed in the RoboBots program that took place at Meadville Area Senior High School on April 4. The event was coordinated by the Northwest Pennsylvania National Tooling and Machining Association. The competition took place in two sessions. The morning session ran from 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and the afternoon session ran from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. RoboBots is modeled on the BattleBots IQ educational program which was created by the producers of the BattleBots television series. The competition is designed to get high school students interested in careers in the technical field.

The Mercer County Career Center, the only participating school from Mercer County, had four teams of a total of 33 students: the Thunkers, S.W.A.T., Team Blitzkreig and Ragnarok. Their bots were the Thunken, Quin II, Panzerchrek and Ragnarok, respectively. All of the robots weighed 15 pounds or less and were radio-controlled. The winners of the matches were determined in one of four ways: knock out, technical knock out, tap out or judge’s decision. The Venango Technology Center’s VTC-PM team took first place overall with their bot Anubus.

More than 1,300 spectators showed up at Meadville Area Senior High School on April 4th to watch 28 student teams
