Working for Change aims to prepare businesses and organizations for the demographic development and to ensure that there is sufficient capacity to manage cultural diversity. The demographic challenge Sweden and Europe are facing major demographic challenges. In Sweden alone, 30% of today’s workforce will have retired by the year 2015, these vacancies needs to be filled shortly. Additionally, Sweden’s population growth after 2030 will only be sustained by continued immigration. The challenge therefore is not “only” to create new jobs, but above all to find and attract skilled labor that will fill the void that will then exist. Who is the initiative aimed for? Working for Change is a meeting place for international academics (foreign students in universities and colleges, Swedish students at foreign universities and academics with international qualifications and background) seeking jobs and/or internships. As well as businesses and organization looking to recruit, and advocate, government agencies interested in learning more about the demographic challenges and how to effectively manage cultural diversity. Working for Change is built on three pillars A conference with seminars will highlight current issues that focus on demographic development and its challenges; how to manage cultural diversity, recruitment of international expertise/skilled labor, evaluation of employers’ work on cultural diversity, examples on how companies profit from cultural diversification etc. The aim is to develop the conference to become a leading platform for discussion on diversity. Participants can therefore profile their involvement in an area that is pivotal for Sweden’s competitive power. A recruitment fair. A key component of Working for Change is the organization of a recruitment fair that will consist of an exhibition part as well as a forum for networking. The latter will enable individuals to meet and network directly with company representatives. The third pillar is the software tool that allows participants to register at an early stage for a specific Working for Change website. The software is a matching tool that allows companies to search for candidates and pre book meetings, the meetings will take place during the conference. Following the conference, businesses will be offered a time restricted access to the candidate base. This will enable a flow of traffic to the website prior-, during- and after the event.
