ARTISTIC TREASURE HUNTMORE LIFE - CONCERTS, MUSIC GUERILLA GARDENING

    If there was no gravity?

    - I would hang everything in scaoldings with strings so it doesnt blow away.

    If there where no light?

    - I would decorate the street with big tubes lit up in dierent colors

    If you where very tiny?

    - Like a pizzamouse? I would create small mouse-roads and pathways, search forplaces to nd food, protected from glass splinters. Also big pieces of foam to crawl

    around in!

We also need play grounds for adults! Why are only the kids allowed to have fun??

    DIFFERENT INTERVIEWING STRATEGY:

Theres a lot of action for the children aroundthe square organized by the library and theneighbourhood administration

The squares football eld is in active use, in

    winter its freezed for ice-skating

    DISLIKESLIKES

    The neighbourhood is unsafe

The square is divided between hip-sters and residents

    More hygge

    Nothing new survives vandalism

From interviewing people in the square we found that the twoends of the square are very seperated. One end holds hip cafs

and shops, young students and people passing to go to work. The other end is occupied mostly by the inhabitants, mainly im-migrants and families.

    BIRDS?

In an attempt to unify the square, make people interact and feelthat they belong in the square, we developed a new urban furni-ture, the Urban Birds. In a fun way they will make people stopand wonder: Where did that sound come from?, Whos speak-ing to me?, What is that light in the tree?. We hope to causeenough curiousity and interest to make people walk around thesquare and discover their neighbours.

    CONCLUSION:

INVOLVING PEOPLEBy letting the people from the area paint the birds and be part of the process, they will

develop a relationship to the birds and therefore to the square.

This personal relationship will cause people to take better care of their neighbourhood.

INTERACTIONPLAY Some birds copy the sounds they hear in the city. These urban birds became the inspira-tion for the interactive art in our project. The idea is that there will be microfones around

the square hanging from the trees, and they will be connected to a bird somewhere on thesquare with a speaker inside it. This way people can make statements that the birds will

resonate; for example nice suggestions, political statements, information about events, jokes, songs etc. At the same time it will be sort of a treasurehunt when people have to nd

the bird that is saying their words. This is a fun and creative way for people to interact with

    each other and the square.

    LIGHT

The urban bird can as well work as an artistic lamp at night time, giving a mys-terious but also peaceful atmosphere to the square where they are placed.

They could work either on solar power or conventional batteries. The birds

sit on branches in the trees or other static objects on the square, giving thespectators something to follow around the square. The urban birds will also be

painted by the users and that way be lit in many dierent colors.
