    11 Funky

    Monkey

Monkey bars sure are fun when your five, but

these have a few added twists. Greased bars

above and icy water below. Better hold on tight.

Monkey bars built with a vertex, so they actually have

an incline, then decline. Greased. I failed miserably,

and ended up having to swim out and around the

structure as punishment for falling in. This requires

swimming under a wall, marking the first time I was fully

submerged. I start seriously doubting my ability to

    perform multiple laps here.

    12 Creek

    Crusade

Ever walk past a disgusting, brown creek with

awful smelling mud and think, "I sure am glad Iam not stuck in the middle of that"?

The organizers were apparently uncomfortable with

providing a segment where you just have to run, andthrew in ankle-eating mud. Saw someone lose a shoe

    trying to navigate this.

13 Log Bog Jog Because running through a swamp isn't tough

enough, you will have to hop over and climb

under a series of downed trees.

Worried the mud wasn't difficult enough, they then

    incorporated trees.

14 Spider's Web Flight your way up and over this swinging cargo

net. The view from the top is nice but we

recommend making your way down as quickly as

    humanly possible.

Try to scale a loose-hanging cargo net being scaled by

5 other people. Swing wildly in the wind. Re-attempt.

Engage in more swinging. Eventually establish a

    system to alternate climbs.

15 Peg Legs Balance is a must if you want to make your way

successfully across the tops of these telephone

    poles.

Hop from stump to stump, sticking 1-3 feet out of the

water. The second time my long legs saved me, as I

was able to reach each one. Others weren't so lucky.

16 Devil's Beard Try as you might, this low-lying cargo net will trap

you like a fly in a web.

A hill is covered in a huge, heavy cargo net. Crawl up it.

    Yeeha.

17 Kiss of Mud Plan on getting a face full of mud as you crawl

through this mud pit with barb wire forcing you to

    keep your head down.

A few lines of barbed wire aren't difficult to crawl under.

However, this is 50+ yards up a steep hill under barbed

    wire.

    18 Boa

    Constrictor

Head down a narrow tunnel as the water level

inside slowly rises closer to the top. When you

finally make it out your reward is crawling up the

    other side.

Another event designed to break you. Feeling the water

rise until you must strain your neck for air as you're

crawling farther down the tube sucks. Additionally

awful: 3/4 of the way through you exit the water, and

are simply stuck worming your way up a frictionlesstube. Not for the claustrophobic.

    19 Shake -n-

    Bake

The old tar-and-feather routine the Tough Mudder

way. We will make sure to get you nice and wet

before forcing you to crawl through a lengthy

    sand pit.

OMG this event was so amazing! After heading through

deep frigid water, more barbed wire awaits. But the

ground is covered in sod, providing the only insulating

experience of the race. I honestly contemplated taking

a break here to warm up.

20 Logjammin' Try not to bang your head as you make your way

over and under this series of logs.

Generic obstacle course event requiring runners to

climb over and logs. Well, it would be generic but for

the barbed wire everywhere, forcing competitors

through the path of most resistance.
