Prelude “Praise Him! Praise Him!” Caryl Bailey Family Matters Pastor Kevin Hay Opening Songs and Responsive Words
“I Stand Amazed in the Presence”
I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus the Nazarene,
and wonder how He could love me,
a sinner, condemned, unclean.
How marvelous! How wonderful!
And my song shall ever be –
How marvelous! How wonderful!
Is my Savior’s love for me!
When with the ransomed in glory His face I at last shall see,
’twill be my joy through the ages to sing of His love for me.
Leader: Jesus said, “I am the door.” All: Through Him we enter into a new life. Leader: Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.” All: We are enlightened by His presence and have the light of life. Leader: Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” All: His word of truth shows us the way that leads to life. Leader: Jesus said, “I am the vine.” All: From Him we branch out to do His work. Leader: Jesus said, “I am the bread of life.” All: Our souls are nourished by His word. Leader: Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd.” All: He guides us and protects us. We look to the
Good Shepherd to save us from evil and lead us to abundant life.
“Be Thou My Vision”
Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart. Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best thought by day or by night, waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true word. I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord.
Thou my Great Father, I Thy true son, Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
High King of heaven, my victory won. May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

Life Application Questions
“Beholding the Glory of God”
John 9:1-12
1. What is wrong with the perspective expressed by the disciples?
How is it similar to what Job’s friends assumed about him? And,
how does this perspective still prevail today?
2. Looking at Romans 5:1 and 8:1, what does the gospel teach us
about punishment, condemnation, and suffering?
3. Jesus explains that God had a purpose for this man’s blindness.
Why is "How can God be glorified in my suffering?" a better
question than "Why is this happening to me?"
4. Discuss some of the ways that God’s purposes can be fulfilled
through trials and suffering.
5. How does Jesus healing the physically blind give us assurance
that He can heal spiritual blindness?
6. How does the fact that Jesus can heal our greatest enemy of sin,
death, and spiritual blindness give comfort, hope, and
assurance in the face of the daily suffering, adversity, and
tragedy we face?
