CALL TO WORSHIP (inspired by Psalm 136:1-6) L: Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. P: His love endures forever. L: Give thanks to the God of gods. P: His love endures forever. L: Give thanks to the Lord of lords. P: His love endures forever. L: To Him Who alone does great wonders. P: His love endures forever. L: Who by His understanding made the heavens. P: His love endures forever. L: Who gave us this day to grow in our understanding of love. P: His love endures forever.

HYMN “All Creatures of Our God and King” No. 63 (Verses 1 & 2)

PRAYER OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY (In Unison) Gracious and Wondrous God, You are the inspiration of our hearts, minds and souls. We gather together to seek your glory, majesty and grace. Where we are broken, grant us Your wholeness. Where we are sinful, bless us with forgiveness. Where we are hardened, touch our hearts. And may the Light of Your Love descend like a dove into our eager spirits. We pray this in Jesus’ Holy Name.

L: Let us now pray together the prayer that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ taught us:

LORD’S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

BENEDICTION POSTLUDE “He Hideth My Soul” Kirkpatrick I JOHN 3:11-16 (NIV)

This is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another. Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous. Do not be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you. We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death. Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him. This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.

Gracious and Holy God, grace, mercy and peace come from You. Too often we have believed we can create peace without the Author of Peace. Too often we have not sought peace, nor pursued it. Encourage us to travel the narrow road where righteousness and peace kiss each other (Ps.85:10), and by Your grace may we find Wisdom’s ways are pleasant ways and all Her paths are peace (Prv.3:17). In Your covenant of peace we pray.

SCRIPTURE READING Matthew 10:32-36

“Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven. Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace on the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law – a man’s enemies will be members of his own household.”

L: The Word of the Lord. P: Thanks be to God.

ASSOCIATE PASTOR SEARCH

The search for a new Associate Pastor is underway. A diverse search committee is being formed. Desirable characteristics for a new Associate Pastor are being developed, and marketing materials for the position are being prepared. We anticipate having a new Associate Pastor on board by midsummer.

BUDGET INFORMATION MEETING TODAY

While preparing the 2020 budget, some changes have been made to address present and future operational needs. As with the budget process each year, balancing of the 2020 budget is based on the amount of pledges received and other income sources. The proposed budget is included in the 2019 Annual Report which is now available. The board would like to provide as much information as possible prior to the annual meeting on Sunday, February 23. JOIN US TODAY for an informational meeting at 11:45 a.m. in Souers Hall. Our hope is for everyone to have a greater understanding of the budgetary needs of 2020 as we seek to continue serving the Lord and our community. Childcare will be provided.

2020 ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting for the church will be next Sunday, February 23, at 11:45 a.m. in Souers Hall. We are installing new deacons and voting on new officers and the budget. The meeting is open to everyone, but only church members may vote. Please mark your calendar to attend this meeting. Your attendance is important in the planning for the future of our church, and a quorum of the MEMBERSHIP is needed. Childcare will be provided.

MEMBERSHIP ORIENTATION TODAY

If you are considering joining our church family or simply want more information about The Church at Litchfield Park, please come to our brief membership orientation in Fireside Room South TODAY, immediately following the 9:15 a.m. service. New members will be received next Sunday, February 23, at either the 9:15 or 10:45 a.m. service. If you have already been to an orientation session and would like to join, or if you have any questions about the process, please contact the church office at (623) 935-3411 or [email protected].

RE-VISION TEAM UPDATE

Please be in prayer for our Re-Vision Team (Ken Martin, Marcy Clement, Cedric Nixon, Carrie Bemis, Joe Broski, Kristin McNamara, Al Peterson, Jill Tabata, Eric Jameson, Jennifer Scott, Mari Riggins, Dick Vasiloff and Pastor Lynne) as we meet with our coach again this weekend. More involvement from the congregation will become necessary after this session as we begin putting together action plans and establishing goals.

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP TODAY

Learning to live after a life change (i.e. the death of a loved one or friend, job loss, relationship loss, etc.) is oftentimes very difficult. We want to join you on the path to healing by offering a grief support group. Kathy Bilak and Leanne Walgren hope to walk with you as you travel through your grief. We will meet in Fireside Room South at 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. today, February 16, and also March 8, 15, 22 & 29. If you have any questions, please call the church office at (623) 935-3411 or speak with Kathy or Leanne.

STEWARDSHIP UPDATE

Our special thanks to each of you for your generous and gratifying support. Our heart on the bulletin cover has been filling up over the past few weeks indicating good progress toward achieving our financial goals of supporting our Worship, Fellowship and Service ministries. We want to thank those who have already pledged for 2020 and look forward to receiving pledges from those who are still considering doing so. God bless you for your support.

EPIC SUNDAY SCHOOL BLESSING BAG EVENT

The children will be distributing their Blessing Bags to the congregation as they exit each service TODAY. This month the Sunday school children set out to spread God’s love in a big way. They created 1,000 Blessing Bags (a small assortment of basic toiletries and snacks in a ZipLoc bag, made for people in need around the community). The children’s hope is that everyone will take these bags with them as they travel around the community and hand them out to those in need.

CONFIRMATION CLASSES

Confirmation is the process where youth 8th grade (13 years) or older learn about the Christian faith and make an intentional commitment to give their lives to the Lord. Following confirmation, youth are received into membership into our church. Confirmation will also include baptism for those who have not previously been baptized. An orientation meeting for both youth and parents will be held Thursday, February 20, at 4:30 p.m. in Zieske Hall. Confirmation classes will meet on Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Zieske Hall on February 20, 27, March 5, 19, 26, and on April 2. The confirmation ceremony will occur on Palm Sunday, April 5. You may register in the breezeway/Souers Hall between services. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact the church office at (623) 935-3411 or see Pastor Lynne.

COMMUNITY SERVICE SCHOLARSHIPS

Are you graduating this year? Do you plan to further your education? Have you been active in our church and in the community? If so, applications are now available and must be submitted by March 20th. If you need an application, please contact the church office.

Our study of world religions continues this week on Tuesday, February 18, at 10:00 a.m. and Wednesday, February 19, at 6:30 p.m. in Souers Hall. This week we will be learning about Unitarian Universalism from Rev. Terry Sims. Rev. Sims is the minister at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Surprise. Terry grew up in a musical family in a small town in Winfield, Kansas, graduated from college with a political science degree, and then went to law school at the University of Missouri in Columbia, graduating in 1978. He was a law clerk to a federal judge for four years before joining a law firm in Phoenix in 1983, where he specialized in major motions and appeals. Before discovering Unitarian Universalism in 1994, Terry’s early religious tradition was United Methodism. After deciding to pursue a second career in ministry, Terry graduated from the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California in 2004 and was ordained in 2007.
