Exclamations and commands

Warm up

1 Write out these command sentences, then underline the imperative verb in each one.

Stir the mixture slowly. Clean up that mess now!

An exclamation is a sentence where you show strong feelings like fear, anger, happiness or excitement. It starts with a capital letter and ends with an exclamation mark.

A command is a sentence that tells you to do something. It starts with a capital letter and ends with either a full stop or an exclamation mark. It often starts with an imperative verb,which is a verb used to give a command.

In the example sentences, stir and clean are imperative verbs.
