Writing Assignment 1
Most retailers want to be known globally to expand their brands and to make a larger profit.
This accessories line will include jewelry as well as bags and wallets for the junior department in our
store. While working on expanding an accessories line, one the most important aspects to consider is
the price of the finished product since the target market of the juniors department does not have a lot
of money to spend, while still being fashionable and on trend. The products will made from natural and
recycled materials to be environmentally conscious. In order to have a sustainable private brand it is
important to consider human rights, waste, and the economies (Delhaize 2014). When expanding an
accessories line, the first step to consider is where the products will be manufactured. Our company will
use a textile mill that focuses on natural fibers located in Asia because it will be cheaper to produce, but
we will make sure the mills follows all safety and work labor regulations so it will be a safe environment
for the employees. It is important to consider that economy is good in the location in Asia so that we
will have employees to work and to also know the laws and regulations. Our merchandising factory will
be a green production factory using solar panels, harvesting rainwater to reduce water consumption,
and use all natural dyes that will not harm the environment. So we will not have any problems with the
politics in Asia, we will follow their laws and regulations for manufacturing (textbook). We would use a
continuous replenishment supply chain matrix, so the replenishment of the products is based off of
information about sales to successfully fill the supply chain. This would be the most efficient way to
know how much and what products we need to produce at a certain time (Murray 2014). The next step
would be to source our private brand of accessories. Our company will practice lean manufacturing to
be more efficient with time and materials while also being high quality. Since we are producing our
products offshore we would be a private brand importer. No other retailer would be able to sell our line
of natural made accessories since it is a private brand (textbook). The fact that the accessories line
would be exclusive to our retail stores and that they are made from natural and recycled material while
still being fashionable will help increase the sales. Also, having an environmentally friendly product line
will give the retailer a positive brand image. The locations of our stores will be in major fashion cities,
such as New York City, Dallas, Los Angeles, and many others. We will also have an online store to better
reach our customers. When the products are in the store locations we will use promotions during
certain times of the year, and also set up special displays in the areas of the stores it will be sold. Our
product will be affordable for everyone while still being environmentally friendly.
