he WSK 2011 adventure is now in full swing. Muro Leccese witnessed
the start of the Master Series with a resounding success due to the number of drivers, the high international attendance level and the live TV coverage of all the most important races. Then, in Sarno, it was the turn of the Euro Series, which is preparing to cross the Italian
border. But for now everything is focused on this second round at the "Pista 7 Laghi" track. Everything is ready, as always, with the engines rearing to go and drivers raring to achieve confirmation and revenge, accompanied by the enthusiasm of those who are aware that they are experiencing a great karting moment. A great sporting moment.
dell’Italia. Ma, ora, la concentrazione
è tutta per questo secondo round alla
Pista 7 Laghi Kart. Tutto è pronto, come

top news
There is one thing, in addition to prizes, adrenaline and the desire to win, which distin-guishes the major sporting events in the world: live television coverage. This route had already been taken some time ago, but never before the WSK Master Series this year, had a karting event attracted so much attention. First off, Rai Sport, the sports channel of the Italian state television guaranteed live broadcasting for each appointment. In addition to the live coverage, Rai Sport 2 dedicated a complete program. The live broadcast of the races, however, was also possible thanks to the Internet, and the hard work by the Stop & Go website who providing live streaming of all the pre-finals and finals at Muro Leccese, guaranteeing at the first round of the Masters Series an amazing 4 hours live broadca-sting. Emotions that are also at the centre of the TKart TV episodes dedicated to WSK on Telenova 3 Sportaction, visible on Channel 195 in northern Italy.

WSK ON TOPThe major manufacturers and their factory teams chose the WSK Master Series to start off their season. The Muro Leccese paddock saw a list of KZ1 competitors with some very important names: Marco Ardigò, Gary Catt, Rick Dreezen and Alessandro Piccini for the Tony Kart Racing Team, Armand Convers (Kosmic Ra-cing Department) as well as winners of prestigious international titles such as Paolo De Conto (Energy Ra-cing) and Tony Lavanant (AVG Racing PCR satellite team). Top names were not missing from the other categories either, proving that the WSK series is something that all drivers are focu-sing their attention on. The results of the race in Muro Leccese show that privateer drivers can also do well in comparison to the "factory drivers" racing for the main manufacturers. The only ones who missed out... were those who weren’t there. t
Le grandi Case costruttrici hanno
scelto, con i loro team ufficiali,
la wsk Master series per iniziare
la stagione. Nel paddock di Muro
Leccese l’elenco iscritti della kZ1 era
carico di nomi pesanti: Marco Ardigò,
Gary Catt, Rick Dreezen e Alessandro
Piccini del Tony kart Racing Team,
Armand Convers (kosmic Racing

prestigiosi titoli internazionali come
Paolo De Conto (Energy Corse) e Tony
Lavanant (AVG Racing, team satellite
della PCR). I nomi altisonanti non
mancavano anche nelle altre cate-
gorie, a dimostrazione che le serie
wsk sono al centro dell’attenzione da
parte di tutti i piloti. I risultati della
gara di Muro Leccese dimostrano
che anche i piloti privati possono

“ufficiali” delle principali Case. Gli

More time for the young drivers Tanto spazio ai più piccoli
it has been repeated over
and over again, but this does
make it any less true: the
wsK Master series is the
first top championship to
offer an international stage of
primary importance to the 60
Mini category, the first real
milestone in a young kart drivers
career. in 2010 it already
reached tremendous levels
of success, with countless
participation applications and
scores of drivers attending
each appointment. and 2011
has started in the wake of this
enthusiasm: the first round
at la Conca circuit in Muro
leccese saw the participation
of 75 young drivers. 28 different
countries of origin, representing
europe, asia, north and south
america. the race was, once
again, most populated by
italian drivers, but with just
one driver more than russia,
with 11 drivers on the grid. Just
behind them were Britain, with
7 drivers, romania and spain
with 6, and sweden with 5.
Many of them performed well
on the track, and their names
were swiftly marked down on
the notebooks of the number of
technicians, not only from the
karting world, visiting the circuit
on the look out for new talent.
to reward the efforts made by so
many drivers from so far away,
the wsK organisation committee
in Muro leccese raised the
number of drivers who were
allowed to race in the final after
the qualifier heats, now standing
at 68. to make the battle on the
track even more exciting and
attractive is the certainty that,
at the end of the year, during
the traditional "Grand Gala",
wsK will reward the drivers who
performed the best throughout
the season.
presenti a ogni appuntamento.
E il 2011 è iniziato seguendo lo
stesso copione: al primo round
sul circuito La Conca di Muro
Leccese si sono presentati in
ben 75 giovanissimi driver. 28
i Paesi di provenienza, in rap-
presentanza di Europa, Asia,
Nord e Sud America.
Da segnalare che i piloti italiani
sono stati ancora una volta i
più presenti, ma hanno avuto
solamente una presenza in più
rispetto alla Russia, fermatasi
a 11. Poco dietro la Gran
Bretagna, con 7 piloti, la
Spagna con 6, la Svezia con
5 e la Romania con 4. Tanti di
loro si sono messi in luce du-
rante la gara, facendo segnare
i loro nomi sui taccuini dei
tecnici, non solo del karting,
presenti sul circuito e sempre
in cerca di nuovi talenti.
Proprio per venire incontro agli
sforzi fatti dai tanti piloti arrivati
anche da lontano, già a Muro
Leccese l’organizzazione del
WSK ha alzato il numero degli
aventi diritto a superare le
manche di qualifica, portando-
lo a 68. A rendere ancora più
combattuta ed entusiasmante
la battaglia in pista, la cer-
tezza che a fine anno la WSK
premierà, in occasione del tra-
dizionale “Gran Galà”, i piloti
più meritevoli messisi in luce
durante la stagione.

and you are always on the track
The new format of the WSK Master Series has a great target: to allow drivers to race as much as pos-sible on the track. The program is structured so that there are no gaps or breaks, except those dictated by the turnover of the categories; this means the long intervals have been eliminated. All drivers in the WSK races, without exception, are engaged in continuous track lapping until late Sunday morning, avoiding situations where those who are slower or run into some technical problems, risk being out of the game on the Saturday. A practical example is the Mini 60, which has two semi-finals on Sunday afternoon, to give drivers more opportunity to do well in the race.
Analyzing the numbers of minutes spent on the track in WSK events and comparing them with those of the top motorsport categori-es, on a karting race weekend such as the Masters Series, it is second to Formula 1 (385 minutes, approximately, compared with 280 in karting), outpacing other categories of different levels (from 115 in GP3 to 150 minutes in GP2). Therefore, from a track time per season standpoint, karting, after F1, is the category that allows you to get the most driving experience. Figures that merit some thought due to the fact that, there is nothing better for a driver than spending time behind the wheel in order to improve and gain experience.

report 60 Mini
there are many drivers currently racing in the 60 category: over
75 are registered! that's why the organisation committee, after
the qualifiers, decided to split them into two groups. they all race
in their own group and the names of the 17 fastest drivers in each
of them populate the combined rankings, and produce the names
of the 34 drivers through to the Final. the russian alexander
Vartanyanr (tony Kart/parilla) is the star performer of the weekend,
especially on the sunday when, on a dry track, he wins both
the pre-final (B) and the Final. the russian does not celebrate
when passing the finish line because, due to an incorrect starting
procedure, the race commission inflicts a 10 second penalty,
which puts him down to thirteenth place.the one who came out
smiling is the Brit karter Billy Monger (Birel/lKe) who, after a bit
of a kafuffle in the race, manages to edge in front of his followers:
the spanish eliseo Martinez Merono (CrG/parilla) and the great
italian alessio lorandi (tony Kart/Vortex), fourth place went to the
romanian Marcu dioninisios (top Kart/lKe), followed by the driver
from usa santino Ferrucci (lenzo Kart/lKe). Callum ilott (lenzo
Kart/lKe), Berkay Besler (top Kart/lKe) and angel shtol (top Kart/
parilla), first in the combined rankings, also performed very well
over the weekend.
Quarto
Marcu Dioninisios (Top Kart/LKE), seguito da Santino Ferrucci
(Lenzo Kart/LKE). Hanno ben figurato durante il week end
anche Callum Ilott (Lenzo Kart/LKE), Berkay Besler (Top Kart/
LKE) e Angel Shtol (Top Kart/Parilla), primo nella classifica
combinata.

the main expectations were directed at Max Verstappen (CrG/
Maxter), but the '10 euro and world series champion, was forced
to start late in the pre-final as he had retired in the fourth heat but
both in the pre-final and final he lost ground at the start, and was
forced to make an amazing comeback; in the Final he starts way
down the pack in twentieth place, but one fast lap after another
he still managed to climb onto the bottom rung of the podium. the
driver who put this result in his pocket was the British karting
champion (Fa Kart/Vortex), achieving the third best lap time in the
qualifiers, two wins in the heats and reaps success both in the pre-
final and the Final. slavko ivanovic (tony Kart/Vortex) was always
in the “front group”, aggressive and fast throughout the weekend,
but in the Final he was unable to keep the other group drivers at
bay and finished just eight. second place went to the spaniard
pedro hiltbrand (Kosmic/Vortex), always among the winners at the
weekend and, after Verstappen, came the italian antonio Fuoco
(top Kart/tM), author of the best lap time in the qualify. in fifth
place Matthew Graham (Zanardi/parilla) who was also very fast
all weekend. nicolai sylvest (tony Kart/Vortex) and dennis olsen
(energy/tM) also did well; the 2010 reigning champion nicklas
nielsen (dr/parilla) had a few problems. the championship
ranking now sees okeeffe in the lead with 85 points, where the
driver in second place, hiltbrand, has just 38
campione 2010 di Euro e World Series è costretto a partire attar-

stefano Cucco (Birel/parilla) was the hero of the weekend, in
the pre-final he gets a 3-second penalty: in order to win, he
has to gain at least three seconds over the driver behind him,
Victor sendin (tony Kart/Vortex). he does just that, winning by
4,676 seconds ahead of sendin; the latter was always in the top
positions throughout the weekend, and the “one-two” in the pre-
final is also repeated in the final. third at the finish line was sam
Macleod (Fa Kart/Vortex), the author of an amazing comeback in
the pre-final: he started in twenty-seventh place and crossed the
finish line seventh. it’s a pity about loris spinelli’s prefinal (top
Kart/parilla): he started in fourth place, he gained the lead early
on in the race but came to a halt at the side of the track. in the
final, however, he managed to make a come back from thirty-
first spot on the grid to fifth at the finish line. sami luka (energy/
tM) was also very fast, but he was not able to really pull out the
stops in the races, as he did in the heats, and finished just fourth.
antonio Giovinazzi (pCr/parilla), champion of the wsK Masters
series in KF2 in 2010, paid for a breakdown in the first heat and,
despite, having won one of the qualifiers, he started down the pack
in twenty-second place in the pre-final and finished sixth. stefan
Karasev (tony Kart/Vortex) author of the pole after the heats and
Jacob nortoft (Birel/BMB) were also very fast this weekend. Best
time in the qualify went to pavel rudakov (tony Kart/BMB).
In finale, comunque, l’abruzzese riesce
chiude sesto, così come in finale.
manche e Jacob Nortoft (Birel/BMB). Nelle qualifiche miglior giro
di Pavel Rudakov (Tony Kart/BMB).

012 wsk Master series II
at the start of Final 1, a technical problem forced the race
commissioner to wave the red flag at the finish line in order to
repeat the start procedure. the leading group misinterpreted the
indications and all came to a halt on the finish line; the drivers at
the back of the group did not see the "wall" of karts all stationary
at the finish line and crashed straight into them. it was however
the drivers at the very front who were worst hit, including rick
dreezen (tony Kart/Vortex) and Marco ardigo (tony Kart/ Vortex),
who underwent serious damage to their karts: no problem for
dreezen, but ardigò’s kart was too damaged and he was forced
to retire. the driver who gained from all this was paolo de Conto
(energy/tM), because at the first bend in the cancelled Final race,
he made a mistake and shot off the track, losing the lead but
miraculously staying clear of the pile-up. on the second restart,
dreezen came off best and led the race with no problems, with de
Conto in second place and Gary Catt (tony Kart/Vortex) in third.
the winner of the KZ2 was Jesper wernersson (tony Kart/Vortex),
often as fast as the KZ1 drivers, behind douglas lundberg (tony
Kart/Vortex) and alfredo delli Compagni (CrG/tM). in the second
final, de Conto starts from pole position and wins. the fastest,
though, was Marco ardigò, who was forced to make a comeback
and finished in second place. dreezen was third and patrik hajek
fourth (tony Kart/Vortex); it’s a shame Jorritt pex (CrG/Maxter) had
to retire. Marco Zanchetta (CKr/tM) won the KZ2, followed by
riccardo negro (dr/parilla) and Massimo dante (CKr/tM).
Dreezen (Tony Kart/Vortex) e Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart/Vortex),
nato perfettamente in forma, quello di Ardigò no, costringendolo
Conto e terzo Gary Catt (Tony Kart/Vortex). Vincitore della KZ2 è
Jesper Wernersson (Tony Kart/Vortex), spesso rapido quanto i pi-
Alfredo Delli Compagni (CRG/TM).
In KZ2 vince
Marco Zanchetta (CKR/TM), seguito da Riccardo Negro (DR/
Parilla) e da Massimo Dante (CKR/TM).
