very time there’s an event on the La Conca circuit, for WSK it’s a little like going home. This is where the

adventure started in 2006 and this is where, every time, you can sense the excitement of

the early days. It’s kind of what happens on our favorite trips: we go distant places, broaden our horizons, meet new people, and learn to take what’s best from each experience… But it’s only once we’re back home that we realize how much road we’ve traveled!

orizzonti e persone, impari a prendere il

meglio da ogni esperienza vissuta…

The new WsK race format introduced in 2011 has been a great success, especially in the KF1 and KZ1/2 categories that have single sessions scheduled at clear intervals throughout the weekend.This leaves no doubt at the end as to who the winners are. in particular, the WsK staff has decided to give pilots the possibility of gaining a higher overall point score. saturday and

sunday schedules are basically identical: qualifying heats and final. The Final 1 is on saturdays and the Final 2 on sundays, which is worth more points: 50 instead of 35. The KF2 and KF3 categories have kept the traditional schedule, with special attention to the amount of time spent on the track: not perchance, the WsK Promotion series are those in which pilots race the most.

The competition at muro Leccese, in the heart of Puglia (italy’s “boot heel”), is the third of four rounds scheduled for the 2011 WsK euro series. halfway through the championship, the race is full on with the title still up for grabs. nothing is certain, given that until now there’s been different winners in all categories for the two opening races. This means various pilots can still hope for the title. in KF3 Verstappen seems set for victory, but the Fa Kart/Vortex couple behind him, featuring ocon and okeeffe, although at a distance, won’t allow for any mistakes. same thing goes for KF1, where a super determi-ned De Vries allows for few exceptions to his rule, but where Bailly and cham-berlain have no intention of giving up the fight before the last chequered flag. The situation in KF2 is more pressed

and harder to sort out, with cucco only 14 points ahead of abreu. Luka is farther behind, but the sparring between the two in the lead could help him gain position. We’ll see some sparks in the shifter categories too: in KZ2 Johansson leads over Torsellini by 45 points and Van Der Burgt follows 11 points back: with 170 points still up for grabs among the winners of the coming races, the match is still wide open. even more so in KZ1, where at least 6 pilots can legitimately aspire to victory: Dreezen, Thonon, Lammers, iglesias, ardigò e Kozlinski, all within a 36 point ran-ge. De Brabander and Forè are slightly farther down the

charts, but for two pilots of their caliber a comeback is not unlikely. We just have to wait and see what happens at the next green light.

A metà campionato, la corsa al titolo

è pienamente nel vivo e tutto è ancora

da decidere. l’incertezza

è confermata dal

fatto che, finora, in tutte le categorie

i vincitori delle due gare disputate

sono sempre stati differenti. Alla

luce di questo, sono diversi i drivers

che possono aspirare al titolo. In KF3

Verstappen pare lanciato verso la

riconferma, ma il duo FA Kart/Vortex

ocon e okeeffe alle sue spalle, seppur

staccato, non gli permette di perdere

un colpo. Stesso discorso per la KF1, in

cui un lanciatissimo De Vries sembra

ammettere poche eccezioni alla sua

legge, anche se Bailly e

Chamberlain non hanno

intenzione di cedere le armi prima

dell’ultima bandiera a scacchi. più

difficile da decifrare la lotta in KF2,

con Cucco che può contare solo su

14 punti di vantaggio su Abreu. più

staccato luka. Anche le classi con il

cambio promettono ancora scintille: in

KZ2 Johansson ha 45 punti di vantag-

gio su torsellini, 11 punti più indietro

c’è Van Der Burgt, ma con 170 punti

ancora in palio la partita è da gio-

care. A maggior ragione in KZ1, dove

sono almeno 6 i piloti che possono

legittimamente puntare alla vittoria:

Dreezen, thonon, lammers, Iglesias,

corso il 3° round della Euro

Series, con la vittoria che ha

sorriso a Convers, D’Agosto,

Verstappen, Lammers e De

Conto. Guarda caso, quattro

di questi cinque, hanno

poi portato a casa il titolo di

Campione.

the dutch may not have hit the jackpot in the first race in sarno,

but he sure did so in Portimao: first in the qualifying trials, first in

the superior, first out of three in the four heats, first in final 1, first

in final 2, and fast laps in both finals. significant improvements for

the two official Kosmic, one driven by sebastien bailly (Kosmic/

vortex) and the other by zdenek groman (Kosmic/vortex), who end

the final 2 respectively second and third (sixth and fourth in final

1). second and third place in the first race go to ignazio d’agosto

(tony Kart/vortex) and chris lock (tony Kart/vortex); a good run

also for yu Kanamaru (tony Kart/vortex) and flavio camponeschi

(tony Kart/vortex), who in the final 2 partially overcome the dull

performance of the beginning of the weekend, proving that the

“vortex army” is pressing hard on de vries. benino libor toman

(birel/bmb) is quite fast during the weekend and in perfect shape

during the final 2, with a great comeback that is interrupted when

he gets pushed by alex baron (sodi Kart/Parilla) forcing him to

stop right as he was placing second. Karol basz (rK/bmb) and

matteo viganò (birel/bmb) also give a good performance. in the

charts, de vries is in the lead with 135 points followed by bailly in

second place with 64.

Nyck De Vries (Zanardi/Parilla) è drammaticamente veloce. Se

nella prima gara di Sarno l’olandese non ha fatto l’en plein, a

Portimao ci riesce: primo nelle prove di qualificazione, primo

nella Superpole, primo in tre delle quattro manche, primo in

Finale 1, primo in Finale 2 e giri veloci in tutte e due le finali. In

netta crescita i due Kosmic ufficiali di Sebastien Bailly (Kosmic/

Vortex) e Zdenek Groman (Kosmic/Vortex), che chiudono la

Finale 2 rispettivamente secondo e terzo (sesto e quarto in

Finale 1). Secondo e terzo nella prima gara Ignazio D’Agosto

(Tony Kart/Vortex) e Chris Lock (Tony Kart/Vortex); bene anche

Yu Kanamaru (Tony Kart/Vortex) e Flavio Camponeschi (Tony

Kart/Vortex), in Finale 2 hanno parzialmente recuperato le

prestazioni opache della prima parte di inizio week end, a

dimostrazione che “l’armata Vortex” marca molto stretto De

Vries. Benino Libor Toman (Birel/BMB), abbastanza rapido

durante il week end e in perfetta forma durante la Finale 2, in

cui compie una grande rimonta, interrotta da una spinta di Alex

Baron (Sodi Kart/Parilla) che lo costringe a fermarsi quando era

secondo. Anche Karol Basz (RK/BMB) e Matteo Viganò (Birel/

BMB) riescono a fare delle buone prestazioni. In classifica De

Vries conduce con 135 punti, il secondo, Bailly, è a 64.

the belgian jonathan thonon (crg/maxter) dominates the final

1 without too many problems and although in final 2 a technical

problem stops him one lap from the end, he’s in a good spot on the

charts, only nine points away from the leader rick dreezen (tony

Kart/vortex), who was fast in sarno but inefficient in Portimao; his

team mate marco ardigò (tony Kart/vortex) does a little better:

fourth in final 2. the dutch bas lammers (intrepid/tm), thanks to

thonon’s “slow down” (in the charts...) is decidedly faster, both on

saturday (third) and on sunday, when he wins a super fast race as

absolute protagonist. the french arnaud Kozlinski (crg/maxter)

pulls a return victory for maxter and for those who don’t rely on

tec-sav preparation: he’s super fast with a “factory” engine, wins

some heats, and in final 2 he ends right behind bas lammers. the

belgian yannick de brabander (Parolin/tm) is third at the podium,

a good result for the newborn formula K team. the other outsider

of this weekend is roberto toninelli (lenzo Kart/tm): the italian

wins two heats and shows a good degree of competitiveness

that unfortunately lacks in the race. too bad for Paolo de conto

(energy/tm): this italian is a protagonist in the master series, but

here in the euro series he seems to struggle. in Portugal he suffers

throughout the weekend and he’s never one hundred percent, in

fact he ends ninth and tenth in the two races. in Kz2 a double win

for joel johansson (energy/tm).

Il belga Jonathan Thonon (CRG/Maxter) domina la Finale 1 senza

troppi problemi e in Finale 2 un problema tecnico lo ferma a un

giro dalla fine; la classifica, però, gli sorride, perché è secondo

a nove punti dal leader Rick Dreezen (Tony Kart/Vortex), veloce

a Sarno ma mai efficace a Portimao. Un po' meglio di lui fa il

compagno di squadra Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart/Vortex), quarto in

Finale 2. L'olandese Bas Lammers (Intrepid/TM) con un Thonon

“rallentato” (in classifica...) è decisamente il più rapido, sia il

sabato (terzo), sia la domenica, quando vince da assoluto prota-

gonista una gara velocissima. Il francese Arnaud Kozlinski (CRG/

Maxter) rappresenta la rivincita della Maxter e di chi non si affida

alla preparazione della Tec-Sav: è velocissimo con un motore

“factory”, vince delle manche e in Finale 2 chiude alle spalle di

Bas Lammers. Sul terzo gradino del podio il belga Yannick De

Brabander (Formula K/TM) che ottiene un buon risultato per il

team Formula K. Altro outsider del week end è Roberto Toninelli

(Lenzo Kart/TM): il bresciano vince due manche e dimostra una

buona competitività che, purtroppo, manca in gara. Peccato per

Paolo De Conto (Energy/TM), il trevigiano nella Master Series è

un protagonista e qui, nella Euro Series, sembra fare un po' di

fatica: in Portogallo soffre durante tutto il week end e non è mai al

cento per cento, tanto da chiudere nono e decimo nelle due gare.

In KZ2 doppietta di Joel Johansson (Energy/TM).

the Portuguese francisco abreu (tony Kart/vortex) wins at

home: on friday he proves he’s the fastest and, even though he

doesn’t win the pole position at the end of the heats (though he

does win two out of four), he’s undoubtedly the pilot that’s more

“with it” on the algarve track, dominating both the Prefinal and

the final. besides, in sunday afternoon’s race he got a 4 second

penalty for a mistake in the starting procedure but, without any

difficulties, he gained an advantage of almost 5 seconds on the

second round, thus cancelling the penalty and ending first both at

the finish line and in the charts. damiano fioravanti (tony Kart/

vortex) is very fast the entire weekend and, with two victories in

the heats, he gains the pole in the Prefinals, closing in second

place; however, he makes a mistake in the final, going off track

and getting on again in the back. on the final’s podium, besides

abreu, there are also Kevin rossel (rK/bmb) and lars sorensen

(birel/bmb). a good weekend performance also by nicolaj moller

madsen (energy/tm) and sami luka (energy/tm), although

both fail to get important positions on sunday afternoon. great

comeback in the final for antonio giovinazzi (Pcr/Parilla), who

starts thirty-sixth and ends fourth; good job for loris spinelli (top

Kart/Parilla), who closes a good weekend with a final fifth place;

and sixth position goes to tan weiron (Kosmic/vortex), thanks to

a nice final comeback.

Il portoghese Francisco Abreu (Tony Kart/Vortex) è vincitore in

patria: il pilota di casa dimostra di essere il più veloce il venerdì e,

pur non guadagnando la pole al termine delle manche (ne vince

due su quattro, comunque) è indubbiamente il pilota più “in

palla” sul circuito dell’Algarve e domina sia Prefinale sia Finale.

Nella gara di domenica pomeriggio, tra l’altro, viene penalizzato

di quattro secondi per un errore nella procedura di partenza e,

senza problemi, accumula un vantaggio di quasi cinque secondi

sul secondo, così da annullare la penalità e chiudere primo sia

sul traguardo sia in classifica. Sicuramente molto rapido durante

tutto il week end è Damiano Fioravanti (Tony Kart/Vortex), che

con due vittorie nelle manche guadagna la pole in prefinale, che

chiude in seconda posizione. In finale, però, commette un errore

ed esce fuoripista rimontando dal fondo. In Finale sul podio, oltre

ad Abreu, ci sono anche Kevin Rossel (RK/BMB) e Lars Sorensen

(Birel/BMB). Buone prestazioni nel week end anche per Nicolaj

Moller Madsen (Energy/TM) e Sami Luka (Energy/TM), entrambi,

però, fuori dalle posizioni importanti la domenica pomeriggio.

Grande rimonta in finale per Antonio Giovinazzi (PCR/Parilla),

partito trentatreesimo e quarto al traguardo, bravo Loris Spinelli

(Top Kart/Parilla), che con un quinto posto in finale chiude un

buon weekend; sesto Tan Weiron (Kosmic/Vortex), autore di una

buona rimonta in finale.

max verstappen (crg/Parilla) places sixteenth in the sum of

qualifying times and so for all five heats he starts from the third

row, but during the first - or in any case by the second - round he

makes it to the front. the results speak clearly: three victories,

two second places and the pole position in the Prefinal, finished

with a victory. the final is a story waiting to be told: he doesn’t

start first, but by the second bend he’s already in the lead and

keeps it this way until the fourteenth lap. dennis olsen

(energy/tm) is second at the finish line, a comeback from what

was sixth position in the starting grid, while third place goes

to the dane of the baby race team, nicolai sylvest (tony Kart/

vortex), amazing and super fast, considering he started thirtieth

due to a stop during the Prefinal. third at the finish line

but thirteenth due to a penalty (he doesn’t keep second position

at the start), antonio fuoco (top Kart/tm) is fast all weekend,

with a second place in the Prefinal and three heat victories.

esteban ocon (fa Kart/vortex) is also fast on friday and saturday,

but disappears on sunday. nice performance by robin hansson

(energy/tm), third in the Prefinal, and by harrison scott (intrepid/

tm), very much with it in the first part of the weekend. a mention

goes to lance stroll (zanardi/Parilla): the canadian, already in

the ferrari driver academy program, is fast all weekend with

a nice comeback in the Prefinal, but at the final he ends up

“parked” on the track side at the very first bend. nicklas nielsen

(tony Kart/vortex) ends fifth.

Max Verstappen (CRG/Parilla) nella somma dei tempi di

qualifica è sedicesimo e, quindi, nelle cinque manche parte

sempre dalla terza fila. Ma durante il primo - al massimo nel

secondo - giro, si ritrova sempre nelle posizioni di testa, e i

risultati parlano chiaro: tre vittorie, due secondi posti e la pole

position in prefinale, che chiude con una vittoria. La finale è

un copione già scritto: non sfila primo, ma alla seconda curva

è già in testa e lì rimane fino alla fine del quattordicesimo giro.

Secondo al traguardo della finale Dennis Olsen (Energy/TM), in

rimonta dalla sesta posizione della griglia di partenza, e terzo il

danese del team Baby Race Nicolai Sylvest (Tony Kart/Vortex),

bravissimo e velocissimo: va considerato che partiva trentesimo

a causa di uno stop in prefinale. Terza posizione al traguardo,

ma tredicesimo a causa di una squalifica (non mantiene la

seconda posizione al via) Antonio Fuoco (Top Kart/TM), è veloce

per tutto il week end, con un secondo posto nella prefinale e

tre manche vinte. Veloce il venerdì e il sabato Esteban Ocon

(FA Kart/Vortex), ma sparisce la domenica. Buona prestazione

di Robin Hansson (Energy/TM), terzo in prefinale e di Harrison

Scott (Intrepid/TM), molto in palla nella prima parte del fine

settimana. Una menzione per Lance Stroll (Zanardi/Parilla),

il canadese - già nel programma Ferrari Driver Academy -

è veloce per tutto il week end, con una buona rimonta in

prefinale, ma in finale è “parcheggiato” a bordo pista già alla

prima curva. Quinto Nicklas Nielsen (Tony Kart/Vortex).
