5.1. Disconnect the parallel printer cable from the computer. 5.2. Connect this end into the Wycom Parallel Printer Port 5.3. Connect a DB-25 extension cable into the Wycom parallel computer port 5.4. Connect the other end of the DB-25 extension cable into the computer’s printer port 5.5. Follow the instructions in 4.1.2 Hardware/Input Parallel Port to enable the input port.

6. If printing to a dot matrix printer , proceed to next step 4.1.1to set the printer emulation in the Wycom.

4.1.1 Emulation (KEYBOARD:S,E)

This menu provides a mechanism to set the printer emulation for Dot Matrix printers. This option is ignored when Laser printers have been configured for your account.

“Fast Mode” is an option that works –only- with laser printers, not dot matrix printers. Fast Mode attempts to utilize characteristics of a laser printer to speed output. If you set this to “Y”, and your laser printer data becomes corrupted, change the value to “N”. This option will have no effect on dot matrix printers. “Fast Mode” is enabled by default

1. Set the executive switch to KEYBOARD. 2. Select option “S Setup and Capture”. 3. Select option “E Emulation” 4. The following screen will appear.

Emulation C = Configure D = Restore Defaults Enter Option:

5.3 AS400 Queue Setup

5.3.1 Enable Advanced Functions at the Printer – Parallel Printers Only

When using Raw TCP communications to a laserjet printer, the AS400 will send an initial status request packet to the printer and will wait for a response. On some printers, if “Parallel Advanced Communications” is set to “No”, then this status will not be returned, and the AS400 will not print the pending job. HP 4XXX series printers (and above) often implement this setting. For HP 4XXX printers:

1. Press the “Menu” button until you see “I/O MENU” 2. Press the “Item” button until you see “PARALLEL ADV COMMUNICATIONS” 3. If “PARALLEL ADV COMMUNICATIONS = YES”, then the printer is configured correctly. Press the “GO”

button, and go to the next section. 4. If “PARALLEL ADV COMMUNICATIONS=NO”, then the printer is not configured correctly. 5. Press the “Value” button until you see “PARALLEL ADV COMMUNICATIONS=YES”. 6. Press the “Select” button, and you should see an asterisk “*” appear next to “PARALLEL ADV

COMMUNICATIONS=YES*” 7. Press the “Go” button.

5.3.2 Add a AS400 Print Queue

The AS400 natively supports printing to an IP port and also supports remote printing using LINUX/UNIX-style Line Printer Requester (LPR). IP Port printing is superior to LPR by providing page range support and better spool management. In order to print jobs automatically using IP Port printing, the destination printer must support Printer Job Language (PJL). Nearly all Laser Printers support PJL, and most Dot Matrix printers do not support PJL. If PJL is not supported, and IP Port Printing is utilized, the operator will be required to “hold” and “release” each print job before the print job will be issued to the printer.

When using Laser Printers, IP Port printing is usually a better choice than LPR since IP Port printing provides page range support. However, either mechanism will generally work with Laser Printers.

When using Dot Matrix printers, LPR is usually a better choice. While page range support is not provided, a “hold” and “release” will not be required to print each job.

The following sections describe how to configure both IP Port and LPR queues.

• The <WYCOM UNIT IP ADDRESS> MUST be the same as the IP address configured into the WYCOM UNIT.

• The “Port Number” MUST be 9100 if printing to the WYCOM UNIT output parallel port.

• The “Port Number” must NOT be 9100 if printing to a network printer. Instead the port should match the number you created in the WYCOM UNIT web interface.

• The “System Driver Program” MUST be *HPPJLDRV, and an asterisk MUST be included in *HPPJLDRV.

Note: The asterisk “*” is a very important identifier, and –must- be included when setting the driver to HPPJLDRV. If you set the System driver program to “HPPJLDRV, without an asterisk, instead of “HPPJLDRV”, then the AS400 will obtain status from the WYCOM UNIT, but the print job will not be sent.

• The text description can be any arbitrary text. You should set the “Manufacturer type and model” based on your laser printer model.

Once you have created the printer device description, you will need to vary on the printer device description using either the Vary Configuration (VRYCFG) or Work with Configuration Status (WRKCFGSTS) command and then start the printer writer using either the Start Printer Writer (STRPRTWTR) or Work with Writers (WRKWTR ) command.

Note: This definition assumes that the printer supports HP’s Printer Job Language protocol for returning status information. If the printer does not support PJL, then each print job will require a hold/release in order to print. Nearly all HP-compatible printers support PJL.

Note: For more information on IBM AS/400 Printing, go to www.ibm.com/redbooks and search for “IBM AS/400 PRINTING”. Follow the link to “IBM AS/400 Printing V”, then click on either the HTML or PDF links to view the document. The IBM AS/400 Printing V redbook provides a series of “how to” steps for configuration and management of printing on AS/400 systems. The section titled “Configuring LAN-Attached ASCII printers using PJL drivers” is pertinent to the WYCOM UNIT.

5.3.3 Add a AS400 LPR Remote Print Queue

The AS400 can use the LINUX/UNIX Line Printer Requester (LPR) protocol to transfer print jobs to the WYCOM UNIT. The AS400 uses LPR when using the Send TCP/IP Spooled File (SNDTCPSPLF) or when a Remote Output Queue (RMTOUTQ) has been configure with the Connection Type (CNNTYPE) set to *IP.

The AS400 does not allow for page range support when using LPR, so you should not use LPR if you want to print page ranges. In addition, due to the AS400/LPR spooling mechanism, stopping printing, holding a spooled file, or deleting a spooled file may not be successful. This printing mechanism works well when you will always send and always want to print an entire job. For more information on capabilities and restrictions, search for “Capabilities and Limitations of TCP/IP Remote Output Queues” at www.ibm.com.

The following settings will create a Remote Print Queue: CRTOUTQ OUTQ(QUSRSYS/PRTS5) RMTSYS(*INTNETADR) Must be *INTNETADR RPTPRTQ(wycom) Must be “wycom” if printing to the WYCOM

UNIT output parallel port. Otherwise, this should match the name you created in the WYCOM UNIT web-based interface. Usually, “raw1”, “raw2”, “raw3”, etc.

AUTOSTRWTR(1) Recommended value CNNTYPE(*IP) Must be *IP DESTTYPE(*OTHER) Must be *OTHER MFRTYPMDL(*HP4000) Choose based on your printer INTNETADR('<WYCOM UNIT IP ADDRESS>') The IP Addres s of the WYCOM UNIT DESTOPT(XAUTOQ) Recommended SEPPAGE(*NO) TEXT('<YOUR TEXT DESCRIPTION>') Arbitrary text AUTCHK(*DTAAUT)

Note: See the following URL for detailed configuration instructions from IBM:

http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=0&uid=nas19f4b1d4d23c582f1862565c2007d4471&loc=en_US

5.3.4 Test your workstation or server queue output 1. Turn the EXECUTIVE key switch to “Pass Thru”. 2. Load the printer with blank copy paper 3. Print data from the workstation or server queue to the Wycom. 4. The printer should print out any data (word document, email, or a check) that you sent. The document will not

have any signatures because signatures will not print in PASS-THRU.

If you have been able to get a successful self test, pass-through test and ping reply, then the unit is ready for data capture (See Section 7) or to run programmed applications. To run programmed applications put the Executive Key in Online. For Premier units, put the Application Key in the desired programmed position.

5.4 HP/UX Queue Setup

The following instructions detail how to print to install an WYCOM UNIT to operate with an HP/UX based system.

5.4.1 Add the WYCOM UNIT hostname to your HP/UX system

Speak with your system administrator regarding how to add a hostname to your system. Typically, you must edit the file /etc/hosts and add a line similar to:

10.28.50.3 wycom1

Where 10.28.50.3 would be replaced with the actual static IP address of the WYCOM UNIT.

5.4.2 Add a HP/UX Print Queue

HP/UX supports BSD-style Line Printer Requester (LPR) printing, and provides both a graphical and command line interface to add print queues. The graphical program is called “sam”. You must use either “sam” or the command line to add a printer queue. Typically, you will utilize only one of these methods. Note that these instructions may vary depending on the version of HP/UX.

5.4.2.1.1 Add a Remote Printer/Plotter” in HP/UX using “sam”

1. At the command prompt, start sam: hpux# sam 2. Select "printers and plotters" 3. Select "printers/plotters" 4. From the "Actions" menu, select "Add Remote Printer/Plotter". The "Add Remote Printer/Plotter" dialog will

be displayed. Enter the following: 4.1. Printer Name: wycom1 4.2. Remote system name: wycom1 [“wycom1” should be in your /etc/hosts file] 4.3. Remote Printer Name: “wycom” if printing to the WYCOM UNIT output parallel port. Otherwise, you

should enter the name of the printer you created in the WYCOM UNIT web interface. Usually, this is “raw1”, “raw2”, etc.

4.4. Click on the box: “Remote Printer is on a BSD System”. Ensure that this option is selected. 4.5. Remote Cancel Model: rcmodel 4.6. Remote Status Model: rsmodel 4.7. Default Request Priority: <use the default> 4.8. Allow anyone to cancel a request: <use the default> 4.9. Make the printer the default destination: do not select 4.10. Click on OK. This will create the remote printer.

5.4.2.1.2 Add a Remote Printer/Plotter” in HP/UX using the command line programs

The following steps show how to use the command line to create a remote printer. If you have already defined the printer using “sam”, then this step is not necessary. Note that the lpadmin command parameters (step #2) may be adjusted.

The following sequence will add a print queue where the output is sent to the output parallel port of the WYCOM UNIT.

1. Log in as root 2. hpux# lpshut 3. hpux# lpadmin -pwycom1 -ormwycom1 –orpwycom -v/dev/null -mrmodel –ocmrcmodel –osmrsmodel -ob3 4. hpux# accept wycom1 5. hpux# enable wycom1 6. hpux# lpsched

The following sequence will add a print queue where the output is sent from the WYCOM UNIT to a network attached printer that was defined in the web administration interface as “raw1”.

1. Log in as root 2. hpux# lpshut 3. hpux# lpadmin -pmyqueue -ormwycom1 –orpraw1 -v/dev/null -mrmodel –ocmrcmodel –osmrsmodel -ob3 4. hpux# accept myqueue 5. hpux# enable myqueue 6. hpux# lpsched

5.4.2.1.3 Note on using the “lpadmin” command:

Use the “lpadmin” command to create a local queue and attach the local queue to a queue on a remote machine. The following command is recommended:

Page 24: Wycom Systems USER MANUAL WYCHECKS OMNI · PDF fileWycom Systems USER MANUAL WYCHECKS OMNI PREMIER MPS PREMIER PLUS PREMIER Date: 5/2/2012 12:58 PM File Status: Release File Source:

hpux# lpadmin -pwycom1 -ormwycom1 –orpwycom -v/dev/null -mrmodel –ocmrcmodel –osmrsmodel -ob3

However, both the –p[local queue name] and –orm[remote machine] can be adjusted if necessary. The following is a brief description of the commands and parameters used. This is a subset of the command available to lpadmin. Refer to the HP/UX man page for more information.

lpadmin –p[local queue name] –orm[remote machine] –orp[remote queue] -v/dev/null -mrmodel \

-ocmrcmodel -osmrsmodel –ob3

-pwycom1 “wycom1” is the name of the local printer queue. This can be changed to a user-preferred name. For example, if you want the queue to be named “checkprinter”, then specify –pcheckprinter. The default of “wycom1” is recommended.

-ormwycom1 “wycom1” is the hostname of the WYCOM UNIT. This must be the same name entered into your /etc/hosts file.

–orpwycom “wycom” is the remote printer queue. The WYCOM UNIT has two printer queues: “wycom” and “lp”. Use the queue “wycom” for check printing. You can optionally use the “lp” queue, but this is strictly for pass-through operation. Note that only “lp” and “wycom” printer queues are available. Other printer queue names will not work.

-v/dev/null can not be changed: associates printer to /dev/null since the printer is remote

-mrmodel can not be changed: model interface program

-ocmrcmodel can not be changed: the method used to cancel remote requests

-osmrsmodel can not be changed: the method used for displaying remote status

-ob3 can not be changed: specifies BSD-style queue with 3-digit numbering

5.4.2.1.4 Test the new remote printer

Once you have configured the printer with either the command line or with “sam”, then test the printer by sending some data to the printer using a command similar to the following:

hpux# lp -dwycom1 /etc/hosts

This will print /etc/hosts to the printer. If /etc/hosts is a short file, the printer may not eject the page. You may need to press the "go" button on the printer to have the page ejected. If the page prints, then the printer "wycom1" is now operational.

5.5 Novell Queue Setup (NDPS)

The WYCOM UNIT supports three different communications protocols: Direct TCP (port 9100, 9101, 9102, etc.), Windows (SMB/LANManager), and LPR. However, the WYCOM UNIT is not NDPS aware, is not a NDPS gateway, and does not support IPX. Since the WYCOM UNIT does support LPR, you can establish communications from the Netware/NDPS server using Novell’s generic NDPS gateway to LPR/LPD remote printers.

Note: If you intend to issue print jobs from a Microsoft Windows client directly to the WYCOM UNIT (bypassing the Novell Netware server), then the Microsoft Windows machine should be configured to run Windows Networking in parallel with Netware Networking. You must first install Windows Networking, and then use the "Add Printer" dialog to add a Microsoft Windows printer (instead of a Netware printer). See the installation instructions for Microsoft Windows if this alternative is desired.

The link below describes how to configure a remote LPR device. Enter this URL into your browser, then select “Configuring Remote Printers Running in LPR Mode"

http://www.novell.com/documentation/nw6p/index.html?page=/documentation/nw6p/ndps_enu/data/acko17s.html

Here is a summary of the installation instructions from the link above:

Configuring Remote Printers Running in LPR Mode

Use the following procedure to configure a remote printer running in LPR mode in TCP/IP environments. Note that LPR will work only if TCP/IP is configured correctly.

1. From the browser's Object menu for the organization or organizational unit, click Create > NDPS Printer. 2. Enter a name in the Printer Name field. 3. In the Printer Agent Source field, select “Create a New Printer Agent” and click Create. 4. Confirm the Printer Agent name (default is the name of the new printer you are creating) and browse to select

the NDPS Manager you want to assign it to. 5. In the Gateway Types window, select the Novell gateway. 6. Configure the Novell PDS by selecting the Printer Type and Port Type, and then click OK. 7. Configure the Connection Type as Remote LPR/TCPIP and specify the Port Type as LPT, COM, or Other.

Then click Next. 8. Select the printer driver for each client operating system. These drivers will be automatically downloaded to

users' workstations when they install this printer in the future. Select a driver for each operating system. If you choose a Windows 3.x driver but not a Windows 95/98/ME or Windows NT/2000/XP driver, a 16-bit driver will be selected. Normally this will not create problems. Since the list of printer drivers shipped with this product is limited, you can add drivers to the Resource Management Service database. (See Adding or Updating Printer Drivers for more information.) If the driver you need is not in the drivers list, rather than adding it to the RMS, you can select [None] at the top of each list. Users will then be asked to provide a disk with the appropriate driver the first time they install this printer on their workstations.

9. Click Continue

5.5.1 Test your workstation or server queue output 1.

5.7 Linux/Unix Queue Setup

If your Linux/Unix computer is not described in any of the previous sections, this section provides general information for connecting a Linux/Unix computer to the WYCOM UNIT.

5.7.1 Create a remote LPR printer

Your Linux/Unix workstation should support the LPR printing protocol (sometimes called LPD). In order to communicate to the WYCOM UNIT, you should create a remote printer entry (usually in /etc/printcap) with the following characteristics:

Hostname: wycom1 (or the IP address of the WYCOM UNIT if you have not created an /etc/hosts entry)

Queue: wycom, if printing to the output parallel port

raw1, raw2, raw3, etc if printing to network attached printers

The WYCOM UNIT utilizes standard BSD-style LPR protocols.

5.7.1.1 /etc/printcap example

In this example, “rm=wycom” sets the queue name to “wycom”. “rp=wycom1” sets the remote host name to “wycom1”. The initial “wycom:\” is the name of the queue on your local Linux/Unix computer.

NOTE: This /etc/printcap entry may not work verbatim on your Linux/Unix computer! This is an example only! This example will send data to the output parallel port of the WYCOM UNIT.

wycom:\ :ml=0:\ :mx=0:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/wycom:\ :af=/var/spool/lpd/wycom/wycom.acct:\ :sh:\ :rm=wycom:\ :rp=wycom1:

5.7.1.2 /etc/hosts example

In this example, the IP address 192.168.0.50 is mapped to the name “wycom1”. When “wycom1” is referenced in the /etc/printcap entry, then the Linux/Unix computer will check /etc/hosts to determine the IP address for “wycom1”.

192.168.0.50 wycom1

5.7.2 Test your workstation or server queue output 1.

6. Wycom Admin Web Interface (Network-to-Network pr inting) Both the WYCOM PREMIER and the WYCOM OMNI provide a web-based interface to manage printer queues. This web-based interface is called “Wycom Admin”. In addition, the WYCOM OMNI provides a means to define networked output printers. This chapter will describe the web interface.

6.1 Logging into Wycom Admin

Wycom Admin is accessed at port 10000 using a web browser. The URL is of the form: http://wycomipaddress>:10000. For example, if you have assigned your WYCOM UNIT, an IP address of 192.168.0.50, then you would enter the following URL into your browser: http://192.168.0.50:10000. The browser will display a log-on screen.

1. Enter “admin” into the Username field 2. Enter your password into the Password field. If you have not created a password, see the section “Password

Setup (KEYBOARD:S,P) for more instructions. NOTE: Both the user name and password are case sensitive. The following special characters are not accepted for a password < > ` ~ & * ( ) \ | ; : ’ ” $

3. Click the Login button. The main Wycom Admin screen will appear.

6.2 Wycom Admin Main Screen

7. Enter fields on this page (see next section). Repeat for each printer.

Note:

This Create Printer screen is split into two sections: Printer Configuration and Printer Destination.

In the “Printer Destination” title bar, you will see the total number of output printer licenses available. This text will read similar to: “Total Licenses = 2, Currently Used = 1”. The Total Licenses is the number of unique output printers. “Currently Used” is the number of unique output printer queues that you have currently defined.

When the “Current user printer count” is equal to the “Maximum user printers allowed”, you will not be able to add any additional output printers until you have 1) Purchased additional licenses from Wycom or 2) deleted an output printer.

6.4.1 Create Printer Screen

If you are printing using a parallel cable to a single printer, you do not need to create a printer. The WYCOM UNIT is pre-configured so that port 9100 and queue “wycom” will print data to the output parallel port. “Create Printer” is only necessary when you want to communicate with a network-attached printer.

Notes:

• If you have multiple printers, start with queue name “raw1”, “raw2”, etc., and start with port numbers “9101”, “9102”, etc.

• For the “Name” of the printer, Wycom recommends input printer names of raw1, raw2, raw3, and etc., but you can use any name with alphanumeric characters and/or digits. Spaces are not allowed.

• The Description is optional • The input type can be different than the output type. I.e. you can have an input LPR input queue and an output

print destination that is Direct TCP. • The ID number is used to fix the application for an input printer queue/port/share. Normally this is blank.

However, if you have multiple applications programmed, then you can use ID number to force the queue to always use a particular application.

• Parameter 1 is usually blank. When used, this special purpose field is a queue-specific branch number. • To change any settings in the Printer Configuration, first Delete the existing printer configuration, see Section

6.5 for Deleting a Printer, then Add the Printer, see Section 6.4 for Adding a Printer.

6.4.2 Queue-based printing

Queue-based printing means that the WYCOM UNIT will change the output based on the queue that receives a print job. For each ID Number used in Web Admin, there will need to be a printer added in windows. For example, windows printer using Port 9101 could use programming for ID Number 1, windows printer using Port 9102 could use programming for ID Number 2, etc.

The queue based printing feature is available when printing to a network printer. It is not available to print to the output parallel port.

The following fields in the Create Printer page can affect the output.

Field Description Id Number (Forces Application #)

1. When this field is blank, an Omni will operate in “autosense” mode, and a Premier will choose programming based on the application key switch.

2. When this field is set to a number, the WYCOM UNIT will always use the programming from a specific application position. When set to 1, use program 1, when set to 2, use program 2, etc. The ID numbers for each of the applications will be provided by Wycom.

Param 1 (Branch # if used)

This is not typically used, and should be blank. Some accounts require special programming on a branch basis. Parameter 1 is typically used to set the branch number for a printer. Changing the output based on a branch number requires custom programming, and is not a generally available option.

Param 2 Not currently used. Param 3 This is used for Autosense Groups when programmed at the factory

6. Check that your printer driver is compatible with Wycom . (Any HP series PCL printer driver is compatible i.e. 4000 series PCL or 8000 series PCL). PCL 6 and PS (Postscript) printer drivers are NOT compatible. If your driver is not compatible, select a new printer driver.

7. Next go to your accounting software application from which you print checks. Send a THREE check print job with varying amounts. If you print STUB OVERRUN checks, make sure one of the three checks is a sample of a stub overrun.

A. If you are ordering a standard license (using pre-printed check stock)– capture three checks with all the digits 0-9, the comma and period in the amount field

B. If you are ordering a MICR license (using blank check stock) – capture three checks with all the digits 0-9, the comma and period in the amount field AND capture three checks with all the digits 0-9 in the check number. If you cannot change the check numbers, run 10 checks to capture all the digits.

8. If the WYCOM UNIT is properly configured, you should see the “Byte Count” increment as data is received. “Total Files” will not change.

9. When the printer has completed printing the data, and the “Byte Count” is no longer incrementing, you can press any key on the keyboard. This will cause this data file to be closed, and data can no longer be captured on this position until you “Format”. The main capture screen will again appear.

8. Wycom Connect/Update Two of the WYCOM UNIT features, “Wycom Connect”, and “Wycom Update” require access to the Internet. If you plan to use these features your firewall should be configured to allow the WYCOM UNIT to communicate with Wycom’s update/connect server.

8.1 Firewall configuration

Please contact your System Administrator and provide the following information:

Port type : TCP

Port number : 15000

Direction : outgoing

External IP Address : [not necessary] 204.200.27.56

Internal IP Address : <if possible, do not specify>

Some firewall policy requires both an internal and an external IP address. If possible, Wycom suggests that the internal IP address not be specified. This will allow you to change the internal IP address of the WYCOM UNIT without requiring a change in the firewall rule.

The IP address 204.200.27.56 is the IP address for connecting to the Wycom server. If the firewall rule does not require that you specify this address, then you can safely ignore this address.

The port should be opened “outgoing” only. This will prevent outside machines from initiating communications with devices inside your network.

8.2 Version Management (KEYBOARD:S,V)

The Version Management menu provides a means to 1) update graphics and software on the WYCOM UNIT, 2) select versions loaded in the WYCOM UNIT and 3) delete versions.

1. Set the executive switch to KEYBOARD. 2. Select option “S Setup and Capture”. 3. Select option “V Version Management”, and a screen similar to the following will appear.

[U] Upgrade via Network [S] Select Version [D] Delete Version Version Management Option:

8.2.1 Upgrade the WYCOM UNIT via the Network (Internet)

After a new order has been completed, Wycom can make the update available via the Internet. When the update is made available at Wycom, you can use the Update feature of the WYCOM UNIT to obtain the changes.

Note Update only works when a Wycom Customer Service Representative makes your updates available via the Internet. If these updates have not been made available, then the WYCOM UNIT will not be able to connect.

From the Version Management screen (See the section “Version Management” to access this screen), select option “U” for “Upgrade via Network”. The following screen will appear:

Upgrade will establish a two-way connection between Wycom Corporation

9.2.2 Manual Checks (KEYBOARD:K,M) The WYCOM UNIT will provided the ability to manually generate a check by entering information using the WYCOM UNIT keyboard. Typically, the WYCOM UNIT operates on-line. In the on-line mode, you may be using the WYCOM UNIT to sign checks, protect checks and/or generate custom forms. Manual programming allows you to manually generate a check using the configuration/programming of an online check. Therefore, the appearance of a manually generated check is similar to (but not necessarily the same as) that of an online generated check. Manual Check Data Entry You must switch the executive key switch to “KEYBOARD” to access a manual program. In the KEYBOARD position, you must use the keyboard to enter information necessary to generate the check. This includes line items with amounts, payee information, date, check number and etc. The amount of the check is calculated from each line item entered. The check stub contains a summary of each line item, and multiple line items may be entered. The stub length limits the total number of line items. If you enter the maximum number of available stub lines, the WYCOM UNIT will automatically display a final total screen. You must specify “Y” on the last screen to print the check. Entry of Incremental and duplicate information When multiple manual checks are generated, the date and the check number will be automatically maintained. The date of the current check will default to the date of the last check. The check number will be automatically incremented to prevent check number duplication. You can always override both the date and the check number. Stub format A manually generated stub will be different from an online-generated stub. Field locations in the manually generated stub will be fixed and will be formatted by the WYCOM UNIT. Stub location The stub will be duplicated in all non-check positions. For example, if an 11” form is used, and the check is printed on the top of the page, stubs would be duplicated in the middle and bottom portions of the page. For 11” forms with 2 checks and 2 stubs, the stub should appear only in the stub area associated with the printed check. Laser printers only The WYCOM UNIT only generates manual checks for laser printers. Dot matrix printers are not supported.

After each manually generated check is sent to the printer, a description of the check is stored in non-volatile memory in the WYCOM UNIT. Once a manual report is generated, you should clear the memory to create space for new descriptions to be stored. If the manual report memory is never cleared, the WYCOM UNIT memory will become completely full, and the WYCOM UNIT will not maintain a record of newly created checks. The old check descriptions will always be maintained until the manual report is cleared. To clear the manual report: 1. At the main manual report screen, press the letter “C”. A message similar to the following will appear:

THIS WILL CLEAR THE MANUAL REPORT! Continue? (Y/N):

2. Press the letter ‘Y’ to clear the manual report.

9.2.2.3 Manual Check Page Composition A manual check consists of: 1. Form, signatures, prefix, MICR numbers and etc. These are the existing on-line features. 2. A WYCOM UNIT data stream emulating the data from a host computer. The data stream consists of:

2.1. The check 2.2. The WYCOM UNIT stub

The WYCOM UNIT will generate a generic stub format. The WYCOM UNIT stub format will NOT be the same as the on-line check stub format. Moreover, the WYCOM UNIT internally generates fonts for the manual check, and the resulting output check will likely differ from an on-line customer check. When printing, the stub will print where the check does not print. If there are several open areas on a check, the stub will be duplicated in each of the open areas.

9.2.2.4 Manual Mode OFFLINE Signer (KEYBOARD:K,M,<position>,<count>) Access OFFLINE Signatures using KEYBOARD,K,M, enter the position number assigned to the manual checks. Enter the number of signatures to print. Enter the queue name, then press <ENTER>. 1. Set the executive switch to KEYBOARD. 2. Select option “K Keyboard Checks”. 3. Select option “M Manual Checks”. 4. The following screen will appear:

MANUAL CHECKS [1-8] : Create Manual Check R : Manual Check Report Enter Option [ESC to exit]:

5. Select position number of offline signer, option 1 through 8. 6. Press any key to begin. 7. The following screen will appear:

OFFLINE SIGNER Page Count: Queue: lp

8. Enter number of pages you want signed. 9. The “queue” specifies the name of the destination printer. For example, if you have created “raw1” using the

Wycom web-based administration interface, then you would enter “raw1”. The default “lp” will send the print job to the output parallel port. Enter the queue name, and press <ENTER>.

10. The specified number of pages will be signed, then the unit will stop printing.

9.2.2.5 Manual Report The WYCOM UNIT will maintain a record of each check printed for each position. On demand, the WYCOM UNIT will print a report to a laser printer with a list of each check printed, payee, amount, date, and other pertinent information.

10. Image Archiving Electronic images of printed checks can be archived to a Windows workstation in both Printer Control Language (PCL) and Portable Document Format (PDF) formats. This chapter describes how to configure your WYCOM UNIT and a Microsoft Windows workstation to generate both PCL and PDF check images.

10.1 Overview

When Image Archiving is enabled, the WYCOM UNIT will print data to a printer, and will also save the PCL data to a Windows Workstation. A Wycom-supplied Microsoft Windows program operates in the background to assign names to output files, split large PCL files into individual checks, and convert PCL files into PDF equivalents.

10.2 Data transfer from WYCOM UNIT to Windows Works tation

Multiple WYCOM Units can transfer data into the same Windows Workstation for processing. Each printer PCL file has a unique name.

In normal operation, printer PCL files are transferred to the designated Windows Workstation as each file is printed. However, the Windows Workstation may be unavailable due to maintenance or some other issue.

In instances where the destination windows workstation is unavailable, the WYCOM UNIT will store files up to the limit of available internal memory. Every 5-30 seconds (approximately), the WYCOM UNIT will attempt to re-establish communications with the destination workstation, and once communications has been re-established, buffered files will be transferred.

By default, the WYCOM UNIT ships with approximately 64MB of internal memory available for temporary storage of files. Assuming an output PCL file size of 30kB - 200kB, the unit can store approximately 320 to 2133 checks before the temporary storage space is exhausted.

Note 1: These figures will not exactly represent your application, since your output file sizes may be much larger or smaller than the estimates.

Note 2 Additional memory can be ordered on a custom basis. Please contact Wycom if additional memory is required.

10.3 Installation – Windows XP / Server 2003

10.3.1 Create the transfer directory on a Microsoft Workstation

You must first create a directory to store data from the WYCOM UNIT.

1. Start Windows Explorer (STARTProgramsAccessoriesWindows Explorer) 2. Click on “My Computer” to expand the tree 3. In the left pane, click on a drive letter. Typically, this will be the “C:” drive. This drive name should be

highlighted. 4. Right click on empty space in the right pane. A menu will appear. 5. Select “New” from the menu. 6. Select “Folder”. A folder named “New Folder” will be created, and the name “New Folder” will be highlighted. 7. Type “pcl2pdf” as the name of the “New Folder” This will create the transfer directory.

Note: This directory MUST be located on a local disk that is on this system. You cannot access this folder via a network share or network path. You can however share this folder so it is accessible by other users/applications remotely.

If you are using windows shares, you must also share this transfer directory. Follow the steps below to share the directory.

8. Right click on the “pcl2pdf” folder. 9. Click “Sharing…”. The “pcl2pdf” properties menu will appear, and the “Sharing” tab will be displayed. 10. Click on the “Share this folder” radio button. 11. Ensure that the share name is “pcl2pdf”. 12. Click the “Apply” button. 13. Click OK.

Note: All windows sharing instructions assume that the shared directory name is “pcl2pdf”. If you choose a different name, use that name instead of “pcl2pdf” when configuring windows sharing with the WYCOM UNIT.

10.3.2 Create a “wycom” user

Typically, you should create a “wycom” user with rights restricted to the conversion directory. You can use other accounts (the administrator account, for example), but creating a “wycom” user follows a security policy of limiting users to the minimal resources necessary to perform a task.

You should create the “wycom” user with a password that never expires.

1. STARTControl PanelAdministrative ToolsComputer Management

2. Click on the plus sign (+) next to “Local Users and Groups”

10.3.3 Enable FTP on the Windows workstation

The WYCOM UNIT uses FTP to transfer files to a Windows Workstation. You must enable FTP on the windows workstation, configure the FTP server, then configure the WYCOM UNIT to communicate with the FTP server.

Note: Early versions of the WYCOM UNIT supported windows shares for data transfer, and this transfer mechanism is still provided for backwards compatibility. However, the WYCOM UNIT’s implementation of the windows sharing protocols does not support WINS, and the WYCOM UNIT and the server must be on the same subnet. Only “Windows 98”-style workgroups are supported. The windows share transfer mechanism is deprecated, and FTP should be used instead.

You must first install and activate a FTP server on your Windows workstation.

Note: Windows Home versions do not, by default, support FTP.

10.3.4 Create the transfer directory

1. Create the directory c:\pcl2pdf

10.3.5 Install IIS

10.6 Using archived images

10.6.1 Viewing images

Once you have completed the installation procedure, you are ready to use the WYCOM UNIT to both print checks and generate PCL/PDF images of checks.

1. Place the WYCOM UNIT switches into an appropriate ONLINE position

2. Print a check to the WYCOM UNIT. The check should print correctly on the printer. After approximately 5 seconds, the conversion process will begin on the Microsoft Windows workstation.

3. PCL Images. Open windows explorer and browse to the directory “c:\pcl2pdf\pcl”. Once the conversion is completed, the output PCL file will appear in this directory. The file will be named based on the account number and the check number. I.e. <account>-<check number>.pcl. If you have a PCL viewer program installed, you can double-click on the file, to view the PCL image.

4. PDF Images. Open windows explorer and browse to the directory “c:\pcl2pdf\pdf”. Once the conversion is completed, the output PDF file will appear in this directory. The file will be named based on the account number and the check number. I.e. <account>-<check number>.pdf. If you have Adobe Acrobat Reader or a similar PDF viewing program installed, you can double-click on the file, to view the PDF image.

Note: If the PCL/PDF file generation is not complete when you open the directory, you may not see the file until you perform a “refresh” in Windows Explorer.

Note: Some image archival programs are not compatible with PDF files. If this is the case, then your image archival program may use the PCL output files in the \pcl directory.

10.6.2 Description of directories

The WYCOM UNIT will always place the raw PCL files (.prn) and conversion data files (.txt or .tmp) in the directory specified using the keyboard interface.

PCL to PDF will process these raw data files (.prn and .txt) and will place output into the following directories:

\ Root conversion directory. Any files in this directory are waiting for conversion. This may include file extensions .prn, .txt and .tmp.

\pcl Contains PCL version of the final output files, and are named <account>-<check number>.pcl

\pdf Contains PDF version of the final output files, and are named: <account>-<check number>.pdf

\org Original data files from the WYCOM UNIT and conversion log files.

\split Temporary working directory

10.6.3 Disabling, Enabling and Exiting the conversion program

If the program is enabled, right click on the “W” icon in the system tray and select “Disable PCL to PDF”.

10.6.5 Image Archive Troubleshooting

10.6.5.1 Files transferred, but PDF files are not generated

If the files are transferred from the root directory to the org directory, but the PDF files are not generated, this is usually because the index information has not been programmed correctly in the WYCOM UNIT. This can happen if 1) your data stream should have a check number, but the check number was not found in your data stream or 2) your data stream does not have a check number, and automatic check numbering has not been enabled. . Check the org directory. If the files are named with “none” in the filename, then the index information is not being created correctly. Contact your Wycom Representative to modify the programming in the WYCOM UNIT.

11. Compatibility The PREMIER, PREMIER MPS and OMNI (hereafter called WYCOM UNIT) are print servers that process checks. This provides compatibility information.

11.1 Communication protocols supported

The WYCOM UNIT supports three different communication protocols:

1) Direct (Raw) TCP – If supported by the host, this is generally the best protocol to use. Best with AS400 and Win 2000 and above. Uses bi-directional communications with printer. This communication protocol is similar to that used in early JetDirect print servers.

2) LPR also called LPD. Use with LINUX/UNIX.

3) Windows Networking, SMB, LAN Manager, LAN MAN. Use with Windows only in cases where neither Direct TCP nor LPR will work.

# Protocol Also called Used with Notes

LINUX/UNIX (preferred)

LPR is the standard communications protocol used with LINUX/UNIX.

Windows 2000 & up Supported

AS400 The AS400 can speak the LPR protocol, but when LPR is used, status information is lost, and the user is unable to specify page ranges. Therefore, Direct TCP is the preferred mechanism for the AS400.

Novell Netware Set up a NDPS gateway using Novell’s generic NDPS gateway to remote LPR devices

LPR LPD

DEC VMS

AS400 (preferred) Bi-directional communications is supported. The HPPJLDRV should be used on the AS400. The WYCOM UNIT is NOT compatible with the HPSNMPDRV since SNMP is not supported.

Windows 2000 & up This protocol works fine with Windows 2000 and above.

Direct TCP Port 9100

Raw 9100

Raw TCP

DEC VMS

Windows (all) (preferred)

Supported by all windows-based computers. Windows Networking

Lan Manager

LAN MAN

SMB

Samba (on LINUX/UNIX systems)

LINUX/UNIX (possible)

Some versions of LINUX/UNIX include a program called SAMBA. This program allows LINUX/UNIX computers to communicate with windows networking equipment.

11.2 Communication protocols NOT supported

1) NOVELL IPX is not supported. HOWEVER: The WYCOM UNIT can inter-operate with Windows clients even if the Windows Clients are on a Novell IPX network. In addition, many Novell servers support LPR/LPD protocol, and the WYCOM UNIT will inter-operate with this protocol.

2) AS400 Telnet Printing is not supported. However, the WYCOM UNIT does support printing using the HPPJLDRV driver instead of the Telnet driver.

11.3 System Related Answers

11.3.1 LINUX/UNIX

LPR is the best protocol to use with LINUX/UNIX. On the LINUX/UNIX workstation, the system administrator will typically edit the /etc/printcap file and add a new remote printer definition. The host name is usually “wycom1”, and the print queue is “wycom”. There is also a pass-through print queue called “lp”.

11.3.2 Windows Computers

The WYCOM UNIT natively supports windows networking. To configure the unit, you must set up the IP address, and type in the workgroup name. The WYCOM UNIT will appear in the workgroup, and will export two printers: lp and wycom. “lp” is a pass-through queue. “wycom” will provide check processing when the key switches are enabled.

Windows 2000 and above supports Direct TCP, LPR and Windows printing.

11.3.3 Windows Computers on a Novell Network

If windows computers are used, then the system administrator can load windows networking on the windows clients, and the clients can speak directly to the WYCOM UNIT using windows networking.

11.3.4 Novell Networks

The WYCOM UNIT operates as a remote print queue and support three different communications protocols: Direct TCP, Windows (SMB/LANManager), and LPR.

If you intend to issue print jobs from a Novell Server, the server must support one of these protocols since IPX is not natively supported. Typically, this means using NDPS with a gateway to LPR/LPD.

If you intend to issue print jobs from a Microsoft Windows client, then the Microsoft Windows machine can be configured to run Windows Networking in parallel with Netware networking. You must first install Windows Networking, and then use the "Add Printer" dialog to add a windows printer. In this mode of operation, the WYCOM UNIT is managed the same as any remote windows printer.

11.3.5 AS400

Direct TCP is the best communication protocol to use with the AS400. Direct TCP is a bi-directional communication protocol, and the printer must support bi-directional communications. The HPPJLDRV driver must be used. Since the WYCOM UNIT does not support SNMP, the HPSNMPDRV will not work with the WYCOM UNIT.

The AS400 also supports LPR. A remote print queue can be created and the LPR protocol can be used to transfer print jobs to the WYCOM UNIT. Note however AS400 implementation of LPR will not allow page ranges to be supported. Only the entire print job can be issued. This is not a good choice for customer who typically need to send a small number of checks out of a very large check print run.

11.3.6 THE UNKNOWN SYSTEM

How do you determine if a system will be compatible with the WYCOM UNIT? First, look at the preceding sections and determine if the system type is listed. If it is, follow the recommendations in the section. If the system is not listed, then ask the following questions:

1) Is IP (Internet Protocol) supported on your network? If NO, then the WYCOM UNIT is not compatible. If YES, go to next question.

2) Do you have one of the supported printers on our list? (Laser: PCL5/PCL5e, Dot Matrix: Epson FX, Epson LQ, IBM PPR, OkiData, DEC). If NO, then the WYCOM UNIT is not compatible. If YES, go to the next question.

3) Can you use LPR/LPD, Direct TCP or Windows networking to communicate to printers? If NO, then the WYCOM UNIT is not compatible. If YES, then the WYCOM UNIT is likely compatible.

11.3.7 Printer Support

1) Works with any compatible laser printer supporting PCL5

2) Works with nearly all dot matrix printers

3) Supported dot matrix emulations include: Epson FX, Epson LQ, IBM PPR, Okidata Microline, DEC

11.4 Q&A

I have an Elite, will the WYCOM UNIT work for me?

There is a good chance that if the Elite is supported, the WYCOM UNIT will be compatible. The customer’s network must communicate using one of the supported protocols (LPR, Windows Networking, Direct TCP).

How is the WYCOM UNIT defined on the Network?

On the host computer, define a remote networked printer.

How is the WYCOM UNIT Managed?

Using a web-based interface or a keyboard interface.

Why is Windows networking preferred with Windows computers?

It is native to Windows.

Is the WYCOM UNIT compatible with HP's jet admin ut ility?

No. The WYCOM UNIT does not support SNMP. HP’s JetAdmin utility expects to communicate with a print server using both the Direct TCP protocol and with SNMP, so the WYCOM UNIT is not compatible with HP’s jet admin utility.

If the customer has an external jet direct installed, will the IP address be the same for the WYCOM UNIT?

Yes, if the Jet Direct is removed, the IP Address can be re-used with the WYCOM UNIT. If the Jet Direct is still connected to the network, then a new IP Address must be selected for the WYCOM UNIT.

Do I need a print server with the WYCOM UNIT?

No, the WYCOM UNIT is a print server. The WYCOM UNIT acts like a combined print server and check printer.

How is your system managed on a Novell Netware 6 network?

By using a NDPS gateway to LPR when printing from the Novell server, and by using Windows printer management when communicating directly from a Windows-based machine on a Novell network.

Is the WYCOM UNIT the same a HP Jet Direct?

Page 81: Wycom Systems USER MANUAL WYCHECKS OMNI · PDF fileWycom Systems USER MANUAL WYCHECKS OMNI PREMIER MPS PREMIER PLUS PREMIER Date: 5/2/2012 12:58 PM File Status: Release File Source:

PREMIER\PREMIER PLUS\OMNI USER MANUAL 2/12/2013 8:27 AM

[WYCOM DOC]\\premier-omni-usermanual-6.869-20130212.doc 81

The WYCOM UNIT is similar to a HP JetDirect, but not the same. The key difference is that the WYCOM UNIT does not natively support IPX, while the JetDirect does not support windows networking.

Does the WYCOM UNIT support IP printing?

Yes, Direct TCP printing is supported. IP is also the backbone of the Windows and LPR protocols.

Does the WYCOM UNIT support (Novell) NDPS printing?

You can use Novell's NDPS gateway that ships with NDPS to communicate to the WYCOM UNIT over IP using LPR/LPD. The WYCOM UNIT does not natively support NDPS.

Does the WYCOM UNIT support (Novell) Queue based printing?

No. Wycom is not aware of a gateway mechanism from NW6 queue-based printing to LPR, Direct TCP or Windows-based printers. However, if a gateway mechanism supports LPR, Direct TCP or Windows-based printing, then the WYCOM UNIT may be compatible.

The WYCOM UNIT takes a long time to start printing when I sent a large print job. Why?

When using Windows Networking or LPR, the WYCOM UNIT spools the data then sends the data to the printer. When sending a print job with a large number of checks, the spooling can take quite a while. The Direct TCP communication protocol does not spool any of the data internally. Instead, each byte is transmitted as it is received and processed. In situations where the host system supports Direct TCP, and the print jobs are very large, this is the recommended protocol. (Note: Neither Win95 nor Win98 natively supports Direct TCP).

Is the WYCOM UNIT compatible with an AIX network?

AIX is IBM’s version of LINUX/UNIX. Typically, AIX supports IP and LPR printing, so the WYCOM UNIT is likely compatible.

workstation. Typically, this means that port 15000 is blocked for all devices, including the WYCOM UNIT. You should configure the firewall to open outgoing TCP port 15000.

4. If you do see an OpenSSH prompt, then this means that the firewall is not blocking –this workstation- . The firewall may still be blocking the WYCOM UNIT. Check the firewall rules to determine if the rules for the WYCOM UNIT differ from the rules for this workstation.

5. Close the command prompt window by clicking the “X” in the upper right-hand corner of the window.

5. Press “N” for Network 6. Press “C” for Configure 7. Write down the configuration on each of the pages. Press <ENTER> or <PGDN> to move between the pages. 8. Turn the WYCOM UNIT Off 9. Install the new CompactFlash card 10. Turn on the WYCOM UNIT. 11. Press “S” for Setup and Configure. 12. Press “N” for Network 13. Press “C” for Configure 14. Enter the parameters from the old card into each of these screens. If you encounter a new parameter, retain the

default. 15. When prompted to use the new configuration, choose “Y”. Wait for the WYCOM UNIT to reconfigure. 16. If Wycom and printer are both on the network and a new compact flash is installed, you must first save the

printer configuration in Web Admin on the old flash card and restore the printer configuration to the new flash card.

12.4.2 The signature doesn’t print. How do I fix this?

WYCOM UNIT debugging steps:

1. Are you actually printing through the WYCOM UNIT? You may be sending print jobs directly to the printer instead of directly to the WYCOM UNIT.

Debugging steps:

1.1. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the WYCOM UNIT 1.2. Print data to the WYCOM UNIT. If data prints, then you are not printing data through the WYCOM

UNIT. If the print job fails to print, then you are printing data through the WYCOM UNIT. 2. Are you using the correct port number? When you are using the direct TCP protocol, you must specify a port

number. Port number 9100 is pre-defined to send data to the WYCOM UNIT output parallel port. If you are trying to print to a network printer, you should not be using port number 9100. Instead, you should be using the port that you created using the WYCOM UNIT web interface.

3. Are you using the correct print queue? When using either LPR or Windows networking, you must specify a queue name. The queue “wycom” is predefined to send data to the WYCOM UNIT output parallel port. If you are trying to print to a network printer, you should not be using the queue name ‘wycom”. Instead, you should be using the queue name (usually “raw1”, “raw2”, etc.) that you created in the WYCOM UNIT web interface. You should not be using the queue “lp” since this is a pass-through queue that only prints to the WYCOM UNIT output parallel port.

Debugging Steps:

3.1. If using Windows, examine the printer properties, and ensure that the resource name ends with a valid queue name (“wycom”, “raw1”, “raw2”, etc., and not “lp”)

3.2. If using LPR, then ensure that the remote printer queue (usually defined in /etc/printcap) is valid (“wycom”, “raw1”, “raw2”, etc., and not “lp”.)

3.3. If using Direct TCP, then confirm the port number is correct. Use port 9100 to print to the output parallel port, and other port numbers (usually 9101, 9102, 9103, etc..,) to print to network attached printers.

4. Is the WYCOM UNIT in the ONLINE position? If not, put the unit in the ONLINE position. If the unit is in the PASS-THROUGH position, then signatures will not print.

5. Has your printer driver or any data changed? If your printer driver has changed, then this may keep the signature from printing. Contact Wycom Technical support if you believe this is the case.

12.5 Direct TCP (Alias: Raw TCP, Port 9100)

12.5.1 (General) Port 9100, 9101, 9102, etc. does not seem to be working

Typically, if the WYCOM UNIT is reachable via ping, then port 9100 printing should work. Confirm that there is a printer connected to the output parallel port of the WYCOM UNIT. Port 9100 –only- prints to the output parallel port. If you are trying to print data to a network attached printer, then you should not use port “9100”. Instead, use the port number you defined in the WYCOM UNIT web interface (9101, 9102, etc.).

12.5.1.1 Confirm the IP address is reachable 1. Under Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP, open a DOS, COMMAND or CMD window on the workstation. Under

Linux/Unix, open a shell, console or command window. 2. Type “ping <IP ADDRESS> where <IP ADDRESS> is the “inet addr” from the second page of the diagnostics 3. The ping command should be successful. If the ping is not successful, then there is a low-level networking

issue. Check the following: 3.1. That you entered the correct IP address in the ping command line 3.2. That the Ethernet cable is connected to the WYCOM UNIT 3.3. That the workstation is connected to the Ethernet 3.4. That the IP address was set correctly using KEYBOARD/S/N/C (Configure Networking).

4. If ping is successful, and you are unable to print using the desired port, then your network may be blocking the port. 4.1. If your workstation is on a different subnet from the WYCOM UNIT, then there may be an intervening

firewall or router that is blocking the destination port.

12.5.2 Microsoft Windows / Direct TCP (Raw Port)

12.5.2.1 Check Windows 2000/XP Port Setup

If you are using Window 2000 or Windows XP, ensure the port is configured properly.

1. Open the printer folder: Start->Settings->Printers 2. Right click on your printer, then select Properties 3. Click on the “Ports” tab. 4. Confirm that the description says “Standard TCP/IP Port” and –not- a HP port. 5. Click on the “Configure Port” button 6. The port name should be IP_<ip address> 7. The printer name or IP address should be the IP address of the WYCOM UNIT 8. The protocol should be “Raw” 9. The Port number should be “9100” if you are printing to a parallel printer. It –SHOULD NOT- be 9100 if you

are printing to a network printer. Port 9100 will always send data to the output parallel port of the WYCOM UNIT.

10. SNMP Status Enabled should be unchecked

12.5.2.2 Alternatively, use LPR protocol instead of Direct TCP

If you are unable to communicate with the Direct TCP protocol, you should attempt to configure Windows 2000/XP to use the LPR protocol instead. Please refer to previous chapters for configuration information.

12.5.3 (Microsoft Windows) My HP printer software (jetadmin) doesn’t work with the WYCOM UNIT

HP software uses both port 9100 and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to communicate with Jet Direct devices. The WYCOM UNIT does not support SNMP, therefore, the WYCOM UNIT will not be

automatically visible to HP printer software. You must configure port 9100 communications using the native capabilities of Windows 2000 or Windows XP. i.e. define a “Standard TCP/IP port”, not a “HP Standard TCP/IP port”.

12.5.4 AS400 problems / Direct TCP (Port 9100) 1. If using a parallel port to communicate with the printer, check the printer to confirm that PARALLEL ADV

FUNCTIONS=YES. (This may apply only to HP LaserJet Printers). 2. Confirm that you are using the HPPJLDRV 3. Alternatively, attempt to communicate with the WYCOM UNIT using the LPR protocol.

12.6 Windows 2000/XP

12.6.1 I can’t see the WYCOM UNIT when I click on the “My Network Places” icon

Since the WYCOM UNIT may export printers, but not file systems, the WYCOM UNIT will only appear under the “Entire Network”. To confirm the WYCOM UNIT appears in your workgroup, click Windows Explorer->”My Network Places”->Entire Network->Microsoft Windows Network->[YOUR WORKGROUP NAME].

12.6.2 I can’t see the WYCOM UNIT in the network neighborhood

This type of problem is usually caused by on of the following:

1. The IP address is set incorrectly 2. The workgroup is set incorrectly 3. The Client for Microsoft Networks is not loaded

12.6.2.1 Confirm the IP address is reachable 1. Open a DOS, COMMAND or CMD window on the workstation 2.

That the IP address was set correctly using CONFIGURE/4 (PROGRAM/4 for earlier units).

12.6.2.2 Confirm the Client for Microsoft Networks is loaded 1. Start->Settings->Control Panel->Network and Dial Up Connections. The Network and Dial-Up folder will

appear. 2. Right-click on Local Area Network. 3. Click on Properties. The Local Area Connection Properties menu will appear. 4. Confirm that “Client for Microsoft Networks” appears in the dialog box (you may need to scroll the dialog box),

and that a check mark appears next to the line containing “Client for Microsoft Networks”.

12.6.2.3 Confirm the workgroup is set correctly

Examine the output from the second diagnostics page. The workstation you are using to print to the WYCOM UNIT. Confirm that the workgroup name of the workstation is the same as the workgroup name of the WYCOM UNIT.

12.6.4 LPR doesn’t print anything

Check “LPR Byte Counting” in the port configuration. This option must be selected in order for the WYCOM UNIT to accurately print jobs from Windows 2000/XP.

12.6.5 LPR is very slow

This can be caused if “Enable bidirectional support” is selected for the port. You must disable bidirectional support under Windows 2000/XP in order to print quickly.

1. Click Start SettingsPrinters. The Printers folder will appear. 2. Right click on the LPR printer you are using. 3. Select properties 4. Click on the “Ports” tab. 5. If “Enable bidirectional support” is checked, click on the “Enable bidirectional support” check box. This box

should NOT be checked. 6. Click Apply. 7. Click OK.

12.7 Web Interface

12.7.1 Login Failed/Forgot Password

When logging into the web-based administration interface, the user name is “admin” and the password is set using the keyboard connected to the WYCOM UNIT. Note that both the user name and password are case sensitive.

1. Confirm that CAPS LOCK is not enabled. This may be causing the case of the user name or password to be incorrect.

2. Reset the password. Refer to the section “Password Setup (KEYBOARD:S,P)” for instructions.
