Fleetwood Accommodation
The main towns of Fleetwood, Cleveleys, Thornton, Poulton-le-Fylde, Knott End on Sea and Garstang form the district of Wyre – named after its 48 mile stretch of river.
We are less than half an hour drive from the M6 and a stone’s throw away from Blackpool.
Accessibility is easy, whether you chose to travel on the M55, or leisurely cruise by car or narrowboat.
Trains to Poulton-le-Fylde, the tramway system along the coast and good bus routes throughout the area give great access to all our treasures too.

With parts of the building dating back to 1650, The Priory weathered the storm of the reformation to become a blacksmiths, boys’ school and a country inn before being transformed into the boutique hotel, café bar and restaurant it is today.
The original part of the building was a Catholic Chapel (the stone cross and Orb can still be seen above the bakery entrance).
It was built as a Chapel for people travelling to the Catholic church at Garstang as there no other local Catholic church.
Local legend has it that Cromwell’s soldiers stayed at The Priory and were so pleased
with the Hospitality that they left without harming the Priest, but went on to destroy Greenhalgh Castle in nearby Garstang.
Scorton is an ideal base from which to explore the Forest of Bowland or for people partaking in local activities such as game shooting, bird watching, fell walking or just a romantic retreat staying at our boutique accommodation with traditional hospitality.

This sculpture is in honour of artist LS Lowry which celebrates his links with the village as depicted in his painting ‘The Jetty at Knott End, near Fleetwood’ and portrays a
matchstick man and dog from the artwork. The Lancashire artist often
visited Knott End in the 1940’s and 1950’s.
On the southern side of Morecambe Bay across the Wyre Estuary from Fleetwood, the village is the main commercial centre for Over Wyre
community. There are shops, cafés, drinking places and a golf club, plus
a very popular ice cream parlour. Buses run regularly from Knott End to Blackpool, Garstang, Lancaster and Fleetwood. There is also a seasonal
3-minute ferry crossing to Fleetwood.

Market Cross & Stocks
St. Chad’s Church
Standing within the Market Place are rare items from Poulton’s past, which date between the 17th and 18th Centuries. The Cross is a stone Tuscan column. The stocks (the wooden beams contain two pairs of leg-holes) and whipping post are unpleasant reminders of the punishments wrongdoers might suffer, but it was also common for those begging for food in order to stay alive to be punished in this way.
A beautifully historic church in the centre of town and famed for its crocus’, welcoming many visitors and the people of this town, whose needs it has sought to serve for over 900 years. The gardens are a beautiful centrepiece to a town that prides itself on its floral achievements. The first mention of a church in Poulton was in 1094 but there could well have been a church here in Anglo Saxon times. The church is dedicated to St. Chad, an Anglo Saxon bishop who died in 627AD. The building style is that of a typical Georgian ‘preaching box’, introduced through major building work in the 1750s. Rev’d Martin welcomes all to the services during the year.www.stchadschurchpoulton-le-fylde.btck.co.ukT: 01253 883086 SAT NAV: FY6 7BA

We are a fab-ewe-lous animal farm with a museum, cafe & gift shop, plus outdoor play areas, indoor picnic/bouncy castle barn & indoor animal barns. So there’s plenty to do come rain or shine!
The Parr family has been farming in Fleetwood for generations and Farmer Parrs Animal World was started by the whole family.

Barbara Jackson Dance & Theatre School.Recent building projects include The School Room: catering for school farm trips.
We are also hoping to build a special garden area and workshop designed for people with disabilities.

It is a well-worn cliché that successful schools are special places but Rossall is truly unique in terms of its clarity of purpose and solicitude for the holistic development of each and every boy and girl as he or she progresses through the school. The School is distinguished by a level of pastoral care that ensures a positive and affirmative focus upon each individual.
A Rossall Education develops character. It develops young people with a palpable concern for the world within which they live. The School’s membership of the International Baccalaureate Organisation has led to a distinctive culture within which children are encouraged to become critically reflective thinkers and independent learners.
A Rossall School education engenders a concern for the environment and empathy for others. Children leave Rossall as young men and women who exhibit a profound interest in humanitarian issues. They are politically literate and encouraged and empowered to make a difference to the world within which they live.
A Rossall education provides young people with the skills they need to succeed in the technologically driven global village of the twenty-first century. The children develop attributes which will serve them well in this changing world. Boys and girls are encouraged to be resilient and flexible in terms of their approach to problem-solving.
Involvement with the Duke of Edinburgh Award and CCF
For 175 years Rossall School has been successfully enabling young people to become the best possible versions of themselves. I N S P I R I N G E X C E L L E N C E
encourages the children to develop leadership skills and learn the value of teamwork. Courage and compassion are developed through the extensive programme of outward bound activities and by virtue of living as part of a tight community where lifelong friendships are forged.
A real strength of Rossall is the staff and the uncomplicated focus upon the individual. Young people thrive on positive encouragement and the knowledge that their opinions matter - an open and warm-hearted community is cultivated. Boys and girls at a Rossall express themselves with a confidence that reflects their sense of belonging. They know that they will be listened to and that their voice counts.
The Sixth Form boys and girls exude confidence. They are challenged and provided with exciting opportunities within a context which is nurturing, affirmative and entirely dedicated to supporting their wellbeing. The attractiveness and effectiveness of Rossall is exemplified by the pupils.
They are eloquent and erudite. They put others before themselves and they express their ideas with conviction.
The School is investing considerable sums in resources and infrastructure. The newly opened Performing Arts Studio provides a fantastic space for the creative arts, and the new Sports Centre will be a state-of-the-art facility that will enable Rossall to extend on their already impressive performance in a number of sports, both regionally and nationally. To coincide with the opening of the Sports Centre in September 2019, Rossall is launching an Elite Sports Training Programme for the highest performing boys and girls. Individualised programmes built around the Level 3 BTEC in Sports will ensure that the provision is cutting edge and that the School maintains its position as a real leader in this field.
The Rossall School Golf Academy, opened in September 2016, has grown substantially both in facilities and numbers. From one studio the
Academy has seen the addition of a putting lab and a net room, and there are partnerships with a number of the top courses in the area. Rossall is currently number 1 in the ISGA (Independent Schools Golf Association) School Golf Ranking and the School has players selected for the regional England squad.
Above all else, Rossall’s core purpose is teaching and learning. To inspire excellence and to ensure that the children become active lifelong learners who value education for its intrinsic value rather than perceiving it simply as a facilitator.
As part of the School’s ambitious strategic vision to become a regional and national centre of excellence for teaching and learning, there have been two key appointments: a new Director of Teaching and Learning and a new Head of Professional Development. There are also plans for the provision of a centre of innovation and the development of a leadership academy.
The Academic results are strong. Nearly 50% of grades in reformed GCSE subjects scored a 7-9 (equivalent to A*/A) and the top performers in the Sixth Form achieved As and A*s across the board or over 40 points in the IB Diploma Programme. Rossallians access top universities in the UK and Overseas and the Oxbridge preparation programme provides the pupils with the best possible shot at the most competitive of universities.
Old Rossallians can be found in every major city around the world and in all walks of life and many provide an invaluable service to recent School leavers in terms of providing internships or advice on career related ideas.
Rossall is sharply focused on the future, believing that a modern education must balance courage with compassion and creativity with consistency, and believe that personal happiness and emotional literacy are as important as academic success and professional fulfilment.

Out & About
There are a diverse range of walks in Wyre’s beautiful
countryside & coastline. Walk or cycle the length of the
Fylde Coast from Fleetwood to Cleveleys towards Blackpool
(11 miles).
Alternatively you could head in the opposite direction
(illustrative map page 21), starting from Cleveleys and head
towards Knott End and Over Wyre, by ferry.
Garstang is the starting point for a broad range of walking routes
through beautiful pasture and woodland at the edge of the
River Wyre and the picturesque towpath of the Lancaster Canal.
The ‘Wyre Way’ is a long distance recreational route which links
the sea at Morecambe Bay with the Forest of Bowland, passing
through Garstang. The local riverside walk, a circular trail
suitable for all, links the riverside picnic area, the Garstang
Millennium Green and River Wyre.
The countryside rangers lead short and long distance walks linking the Lancaster Canal,
Forest of Bowland, surrounding countryside and neighbouring
villages. Take part in our Garstang Walking Festival during
May, or the ‘Year long’ Wyre Walks Activity Programme of health and guided walks and
activities.
