Thare is a doubie-' rack railroad from CR'JTATT toTiLOGi-TS in the area and a single-track railroad from CARL Ti..,: to LA H.'flDU PUITS.

d. General Nature of the Terrain:

The area north of CAR'ITA'i and east of the DOXiUV as far north asVAPLOGNT-S is a low ,arthy coastal liain. The ground is flat to gEntly rolling. The strcai.;s are sluggish and meandering, flowing tirough broad valleys. Landthat is not under water or marshy is in pastures, cultivated fields, and orchards.Hedges and lines of trees are co;.non between fields and there are many drainageditches, particularly n,.ar the ihundatd areas and alongside of-roads.

South of the DCUIT, the PIitI-I£S B7,CAG.EJS5S and the P:t'. II S;AiEI.C:AIUS']S iiSE GO¥i-1S are of a riarshy nature drying to some e;xtent in thesummer. Th- PWI~l .. Between P7RI7ESand the DOUVE the inigh ground is in ,woods and pastures.

There are also numerous avenues of apDroach from the North, the primary ones being the CHE;E3CURG-CliR .TUt HigihTay, the ST. PIE1RRE 'TLISE-Vi.LOGI'.S road, and the UYTTTiHO-I-VuiOGS road, all rumning south throughVAL.OG',S5. There is an extensive network of minor roads throughout the areaand comtunicatlonls are good in any direction except across the inundated areaback of the beach $Instruction and/or maintenance of camufunications here isa major enr-inecr d . iroic9t. Everyr effort should be maae to seize crossingsover this inmnuation prior to their destruction by the enemy.

Crossing of the CAiT2!iThi estuary from I B,.I-U'7JTT3 to the sea isdifficult due to the treacherous soil conditions. Vehlicles cannot cross theestuary ecept by bridges and ferry at LE lfOUTIIN. Other suitable crossingsmay exist for infantry, but these would be hazardous until reconnoitered andmarked.
