The Physical Education and Sports Service of the University of Valencia opened registration in activities, com-petitions and courses scheduled for the second semester.

DIVINA PASTORA CHAIR ON ADAPTED SPORT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF VALÈNCIA PRESENTS ANNUAL REPORT 2012One year promoting inclusion and support for the adapted sport

The Rectorate building of the Uni-versity of Valencia hosted last Friday, January 25, annual meeting of the Joint Committee of the Divina Pastora Chair on adapted sport from the University of Valencia (CDPDA), constituted by Silvia Barona, President of the Chair and Vice-chancellor for Institutional Relations and Communication; José Campos, director of the Chair and the Physical Education and Sports Service of the University of Valencia; Pilar Nieto, Deputy Director General of Corporate Responsibility of Divina Pastora; Luís Bago, Manager of

Divina Pastora Foundation; and Miguel Angel Torregrosa, Coordinator of the program of adapted sport in the Physi-cal Education and Sports Service.

The Annual Report about the activi-ties carried out through 2012 was ap-proved in the meeting, as well as the execution of the budget for that year and the proposal of activities to deve-lop in 2013.

During 2012, the CDPDA has develo-ped an activity according to its founding purposes especially focused on aid to

athletes, training and dissemination. A program that included training, cultural and extracurricular activities oriented to knowledge, dissemination, incenti-ve and educational cooperation in the context of the adapted sports, as well as the organization of conferences and meetings about technical and technolo-gical dissemination in innovative issues such as the workshop “How to make documents accessible for the attention to disability”, in collaboration with the Unit for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities at the University of Valencia.

The Chair awarded a total of 23 grants to students of the University of Valencia confirming their firm com-mitment for the promotion of the sport in its competitive and recreational as-pects, the removal of barriers and bet-ter compatibility between studies and sports. Those interested in the activities carried out can consult the annual re-port on the website of the Department (http:www.sefuv.com/catedradivinapas-tora).

The director of the Chair, Dr. José Campos, presented the project to be developed in the year 2013, which was adopted unanimously by the members of the Joint Commission after its presen-tation and debate. A project incorpora-ting research and highlighting the crea-tion of the Observatory of the adapted sport at the University, the award Chair Divina Pastora led to end of degree, Master, or doctorate works developed in the context of adapted sport, and a line of support for research projects.

TRAINING AREA

FORTY OPTIONS FOR TRAININGStudents’ first choice is for activities in nature

The University of Valencia started the registration of free option courses of the Physical Education and Sports Service on Monday 21 January, at 11:00.

Curricular courses are grouped under different headings: fitness and health; collective, combat and individual sports; corporal expression, physical education base, psychology, sports management, aquatic and nature activities and sport events.

Many courses related to water acti-vities are offered for this second semes-ter (wide range of sailing choices) and modules related to nature, such as the trekking by the Valencian routes, games and sports on the beach or sea canoeing, which are highly demanded by the stu-dents.

Also sports volunteering courses are warmly welcomed, which have been offered to students of the University of Valencia for several years with the pos-sibility to engage in the various sporting events of Valencia city and in the com-petitions organized by the University. University students who choose to enrol in these courses will be formed in theo-retical explanatory sessions on different areas and then will participate in the event from different positions, in ac-cordance with the requirements of the competition. The options are very diver-se: popular races, triathlons, horse’s day, Valencia’s Nautical Lounge, etc. In addi-tion, with the offer of sports volunteer training, the new students may obtain ECTS credits.

The Physical Education and Sports Service of the University of Valencia

continues its commitment towards wa-ter activities, and this semester provides students with a new possibility to prepa-re for the exam of recreational skipper (PER) through a course that will begin in March. Through it, the Service aims to approach the sea world to the enti-re University community and offer the possibility of acquiring the necessary knowledge to pass the exam of the offi-cial degree issued by Generalitat Valen-ciana.

Registration for courses is open both to the University community and the pu-blic in general, up to the end of vacan-cies, through the website www.uv.es/sef in Automatrícula (Self-registration). On the other hand, registration in sports activities is also open and it may be also done through the website of the Physical Education and Sports Service.

THE CROSS COUNTRY TEAM PROCLAIMED CHAMPION FOR THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEARThe University of Valencia hosted the regional cross country and stood on the top of the podium

The University of Valencia was pro-claimed regional cross country cham-pion by universities after winning the Valencia University Championship orga-nized by the same University of Valencia and held in Turia’s riverbed. José Cam-pos, director of the Physical Education and Sports Service, highlighted “the area chosen is a very nice stretch for competition to develop normally and the participants can enjoy the most of the competition”

In female category, the athlete from the University of València, Andrea Sal-vador crossed the finish line in first place ahead of Laura García (Jaume I Univer-sity) and her teammate Miriam Gregori (Universitat de València).

The hosts also conquered the podium in men’s category thanks to the athlete of the University of Valencia, Alberto López, who ended first improving his record of last year (he finished second), followed by Antonio Martínez (Miguel Hernández University) and completing the podium with Carlos Moreno (Alacant University).

During the development of the event, the director of the Physical Education and Sports Service commented that “in this competition participation is not open; it is a selection of each Universi-ty, which makes the level of competition much higher and is very attractive for all fans and spectators that came to enjoy this sport”.

In total, 40 women and 112 men, all students at any of the universities in the community enjoyed the peculiar circuit. The test was developed in the stretch of the old riverbed that runs between the bridges of Ademuz and San Jose. Wo-men began at 11:30 hours, boys half an hour later.

The awarding ceremony was conduc-ted by the director of the Physical Edu-cation and Sports Service of the Univer-sity of Valencia, José Campos.

FOOTBALL, RUGBY AND VOLLEYBALL MEN TEAMS OF THE UNIVERSITY, WITH ONE FOOT IN THE FINAL OF THE REGIONAL UNIVERSITY SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIPSome teams play the pass to finals on the final day of League

Just one day to the end of the regular season of CADU League (autonomic University Sports Championship), and the soccer team of the University of Valencia leads the ranking after beating the University of Alicante in the last day. Its presence and that of male volleyball and rugby teams of the University are guaranteed in the CADU finals which will be held on Thursday, February 28.

The last day of the League be-fore the final will be held on Feb. 19 and will be decisive for the women’s basketball teams and Futsal male, who must win the matches to continue with options of qualifying for the finals.

Men handball and basketball teams will be the most difficult, because even if they win on the last day, they will depend on the results of third parties to get the pass.

On the other hand, female rug-by 7 and football 7 participated in a Conference in format of concen-

tration, which was held yesterday at the University Jaume I.

University of Valencia teams topped their respective competi-tions after the two concentrations played to date and did not disap-point in the final day, the football team beat Miguel Hernández Uni-versity 8-0 and rugby team did the same in matches against the

Catholic University of Valencia (24-0) and Alacant (35-0). In this way, rugby 7 and football 7 fema-le teams became regional cham-pions and qualified for the Spanish University Championship.

MORE THAN 70 UNIVERSITIES COMPETED IN CABECERA PARKThe II orientation day was a success

Last Saturday, December 15, took place at Cabecera Park in Valencia the second day of domestic League of Orienteering of the Universitat de València, which corresponds to the seventh round of the Valencia-Castellón provincial League.

The competition was a success, both for the participation of mem-bers of the University community (more than 70) and those federated (environment 60 athletes), both in male and female categories.

The event developed from 10:00 hours, in the municipality of Valen-cia, in the historic riverbed and the extension of the great green belt of the old riverbed, where Cabecera Park is located.

THE UNIVERSITY ORGANIZES TWO DOMESTIC CHAMPIONSHIPS QUALIFYING TO PARTICIPATE IN THE INTERNATIONAL ZABALKI TOURNAMENT The University of Valencia, through the Physical Education and Sports Service, organizes two domestic Championships qualifying to participate in the international Zabalki tournament in modalities of Valencian pilota and racquetball.

The championships are held in two pha-ses, the first takes place simultaneously in Burjassot and Blasco Ibáñez campuses. The second phase is called Intercampus phase and brings together the best classi-fied teams at each campus, competing for the champion title of the Universitat de València.

Zabalki International Tournament Zabalki is a tournament recognized and

supported by the International Federation of Basque Pelota born after the success of “Ideki”, rugby 7 international tourna-ment which turned into a top-level Uni-versity classic and the University Lau kirol (1996). Following the tradition of organi-zing the competition annually alternately by a French University and a Spanish one,

this next year the meeting place moved to Pamplona. Therefore, the University of Na-varra, through its sports section is respon-sible for the Organization of this edition of the tournament along with the Navarre Pelota Federation.

The tournament will take place on 21 and 22 February in Mendillorri and La-rrabide and Ipna, Labrit, and the University of Navarra facilities.

The daring idea of the tournament aims to promote, through pelota, encounters between French and Spanish universities as well as to integrate the Basque pelota, reality and cultural reflection, in the Spa-nish, French, European, and even global University Sports.

Once again we have the possibility to see and practice the legendary and co-lourful Japanese fencing at the University of Valencia. Next 23 and 24 February, the Physical Education and Sports Service of the institution organizes the tenth edition of the Open Kendo from the University of Valencia. The University Pavilion (C/ Me-néndez Pelayo, 19) will host the competi-tion and training sessions that, year after year, continues gaining populari-ty.

Within the framework of a Convention of University exchange between Waseda University (Tokyo) and the University of Valencia, the Clinic will be taught by Yano Sensei, 8th Kendo Dan Kyoshi and Shi Han (Lecturer) of Waseda University. In addi-tion, we counted with the collaboration of Takeshita Sensei, Miyake Sensei, Davis Sensei (7th Dan in Kendo Kyoshi, interna-tional referee and member of the British Kendo Association), among other distin-guished professors and students from the University of Waseda.

THE UNIVERSITY WILL GRANT TO MORE THAN 100 UNIVERSITY ATHLETESA commitment to the promotion of sports practice and competition of University students

The University will offer more than 100 scholarships to colle-ge athletes who participate officially in the different champion-ships on behalf of the entity.

From January 15, the university athletes may opt for one of the 130 grants of € 300 each, to be financed through the Physical Education and Sports Service in order to encourage and reward participation and commitment of the athletes of the University in different official Championships in which it participates, always combining effectively sport practicing with studies.

This season the University boasts more than 300 first level athletes competing in each of the University selections. It is

the case, for example, of the women’s soccer team that last summer got the bronze medal in the European Universities Ga-mes, held in Cordoba. The athletics team was proclaimed, for the third consecutive year, runner-up in the Spanish University Athletics Championship to get a whopping nine medals.

The University came up also to the podium as a champion team in Spanish University Triathlon and Golf Championships, and reserve champion in tennis, soccer and taekwondo. With this call, the University improves its wide range of grants and scholarships for athletes, completed with its programs of high-level sport and adapted sport, in its commitment towards the promotion of sports.

THE MOST BELOVED COMPETITION OF THE UNIVERSITY IS BACK‘Trofeu Rector’s’ registration begun

The registration period is now open to participate in the Rector’s trophy for team sports at the University of Valencia. The competition, which will take place during April and May, will offer great sporting spectacle as year after year does and will mean an important alternative in the leisure of the students.

II UNIVERSITY OF VALENCIA - PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORTS SERVICE’S RACEThe University will award a t-shirt to the first 500 participants of the UV registered in the race which will be held on Sunday, February 24

The University of Valencia, through the Physical Education and Sports Service and the Faculty of Sciences of the Physical Activity and Sport, encourages the Uni-versity community to participate in the II University of Valencia’s- Physical Ed. And Sports Service’s race –included within the popular racetrack of Valencia city and which will be held on Sunday, February 24. For this reason, it will award a t-shirt to the first 500 participants who prove to be entered in the race and belong to the University community.

Thus, an orange tide will travel the Valencian streets along with more than 5,000 athletes in one of the events of the faster popular racing circuit (5,335 m). The exit will take place next to the facilities of the Physical Education and Sports Servi-ce, in the Avda. Primado Reig, 177 at 9:00 hours and arrival will take place in Blasco Ibáñez campus’ sports facilities.

Without a doubt, it is an excellent op-portunity to run along with thousands of people and share a healthy experience with the University community.

How and where do I pick up my shirt?

All those race partici-pants belonging to the University community can pick the t-shirt of the Physical Education and Sports Service showing up in the reception of the University Pavilion of Blasco Ibáñez campus (Avenida Menéndez y Pe-layo, 19) between 19 and 21 February. Opening hours to the athletes will be 10 to 13 and 16 to 20. They must show proof of registration in the II University of Valencia – Physical Education and Sports Service race as well as membership of the University of Valen-cia, with the University card and the ID of the participant.
