ACRONYMS AND DEFINITIONS Acronyms 1×RTT – Single carrier (“1×) Radio Transmission Technology (for Voice test). EVDO – Evolution Data Optimized (for Data test). ISSHO – Intersystem Soft Hand Off (for Voice test). BSC – Base Station Controller FER – Frame Erasure Rate QPST – Qualcomm Product Support Tool ASIC – Application-Specific Integrated Circuit Definitions Long Calls – Calls that last for an extended period of time in order to measure dropped calls and to improve the maintenance of these calls. COLLECTING RF DATA USING XCAL

This document illustrates setup procedure required for RF CDMA data collection using XCAL drive test tool.

ACRONYMS AND DEFINITIONS

Acronyms

1×RTT – Single carrier (“1×) Radio Transmission Technology (for Voice test).

EVDO – Evolution Data Optimized (for Data test).

ISSHO – Intersystem Soft Hand Off (for Voice test).

BSC – Base Station Controller

QPST – Qualcomm Product Support Tool

Definitions

Long Calls – Calls that last for an extended period of time in order to measure dropped calls and to improve the maintenance of these calls.

Short Calls – Calls that last from 15 seconds to approximately two minutes. Short calls test the accessibility of the site.

Markov Calls – Instrumentation calls of known data sets used to collect frame error statistics. They are conducted between a mobile station and a BSC for FER testing.

FER – It takes into account the number of data frames in error over a defined block of frames.

QPST – It is a set of windows tools designed to interface with, control, and test CDMA phones that contain QUALCOMM ASICs.

GETTING STARTED

Connect the mobile(s) to the laptop and Double Click on the QPST Service Programming application on the desktop to detect mobile(s) connected.

The mobile(s) connected will be displayed on the phone selection window as shown below

NOTE: All mobile(s) connected must be displayed, otherwise Click Cancel on the Phone Selection window and Close the QPST Service Programming application; then disconnect and reconnect the mobile(s) and launch QPST Service Programming application again.

When all the mobile(s) connected are displayed on the phone selection window, you can exit the application by clicking Cancel before closing the application.

Double Click on the XCAL icon on the desktop

CREATING WORKSPACE FOR 1xRTT 2 PHONES PLUS GPS

NOTE: The two phones added to the scenario name intend usage for both short and long calls.

Open up XCAL

To get the Call Statistics window

On the menu bar, CLICK on Statistics/Status, a drop down menu will show up,

Select Call Statistics (Current Scenario) Mobile 1

Illustration is as shown below.

Mobile 1 No. Mobile 2 No. GPS Reading

From this window, you can see the mobile(s) connected indicated by their mobile number and the GPS reading of your current location as shown using the arrows above.

To get the CDMA Signaling Graph window

On the menu bar, CLICK on Graph, a drop down menu will show up,

Select CDMA Signaling Graph Mobile 1

To get the Phone Status window

On the menu bar, CLICK on Status, a drop down menu will show up,

To get the Real-Time Mapping window

On the menu bar, CLICK on File, a drop down menu will show up,

Select Real Time Mapping Mobile 1

To assign port to devices connected

On the menu bar, CLICK on Setting, a drop down menu will show up,

Select Port Setting Mobile 1

Illustration is as shown below for port configuration for all devices connected.

TO SAVE SETTING

On the menu bar, CLICK on File, a drop down menu will show up,

Click on Save All Setting, this window appears

Save the Setting appropriately by stating the file name and Click Save.

NOTE: The saved setting must be in the Program Files Wireless Logix XCAL Settings folder location.

TO START LOGGING

On the icon bar, CLICK on AutoCall and the display window is as shown below.

To create new autocall scenario

CLICK on the Create New Scenario icon, Name the scenario e.g Markov Short and input configuration settings for the Call Type you want to carryout by clicking on the desired task.

For Voice Call, CLICK on Voice on the Call Type pane

For Data Call, CLICK on FTP on the Call Type pane

Configuration setting for Markov Short Call Scenario

On the AutoCall Scenario setting window, Double Click on Markov Short on the Scenario Name mini window to view the configuration setting.

Illustration below shows the configuration setting for Markov Short Call

NOTE: For both Markov Short and Markov Long Calls, you are calling the Switch having dialed digit which will be provided by the Client.

For ISSHO Shakedown Drive Test, you are calling a receiving phone for both Short and Long Calls; the dialed digit should be the receiving phone number.

Configuration setting for Markov Long Call Scenario

Use same procedure of Markov Short.

Illustration below shows the configuration setting for Markov Long Call

Configuration setting for Long Call i.e when you are calling a receiving phone

Use same procedure for Markov Short

Illustration below shows the configuration setting for Long Calls.

THEN

Drag Markov Short from Scenario name window to mobile 1 cell on the AutoCall Scenario mini window.

Drag Markov Long from Scenario name window to mobile 2 cell on the AutoCall Scenario mini window.

Click OK

It takes you to the location where you want the log file to be saved. Locate the Folder and save Log file appropriately

as xxxShakedown where xxx represent the Site ID.

When On Call the window display will be as shown below

On the icon bar, Click on Call Stop. A “Do you want to stop autocall” window will be displayed

Click YES

CREATING A WORKSPACE FOR EVDO

The following windows make up the setting for EVDO workspace as listed below; 1. Real Time Mapping2. Call Statistics (Current Scenario)3. Phone Status4. EVDO RevA Signal Graph5. EVDO AT StatusOpen up XCAL and Click on Cancel. A default setting is opened.

The first three windows namely Real Time Mapping, Call Statistics (Current Scenario) and Phone Status follow the same procedure as discussed earlier.

The Call Statistics (Current Scenario) window looks thus;

To get the EVDO RevA Signal Graph window

On the menu bar, CLICK on Graph, a drop down menu show up

Select EVDO RevA Signal Graph Mobile 1

To assign port to devices connected

On the menu bar, CLICK on Setting, a drop down menu show up,

Select Port Setting Mobile 1

Then Click OK

TO START LOGGING

On the icon bar, CLICK on AutoCall and the AutoCall Scenario Setting window displays as shown below

Delete the Scenario name on the Autocall Scenario mini window by highlighting it and Clicking Delete All

Then Click OK

Drag the Scenario name you want to carryout and drop it on the Mobile 1 cell

Click OK

It takes you to the location where you want the log file to be saved. Locate the folder and save log file appropriately as xxxShakedown_DL where xxx represent the site ID and _DL for Download respectively.

Configuration setting for FTP DL Scenario

On the AutoCall Scenario Setting window, Double Click on the Scenario name EvDo FTP DL to show configuration setting.

Configuration setting for FTP UL Scenario

On the AutoCall Scenario Setting window, Double Click on the Scenario name EvDo FTP UL to show configuration setting.

Illustration below shows the configuration setting for EvDo FTP UL

When you are running sessions, the window display will be as shown below

TO STOP LOGGING

On the icon bar, Click on Call Stop. A “Do you want to stop autocall” window will be displayed.

Click YES

TO EDIT MULTILINKS SITE DATABASE

On the menu bar, CLICK on Setting

Click on BTS Manager

You can edit any of the following details only if need arise.

Click OK

The following windows make up the setting for 1×RTT 2 PHONES, GPS PLUS SCANNER workspace as listed below; 1. Real Time Mapping2. Call Statistics (Current Scenario)3. Phone Status4. CDMA Signaling Graph5. DTI (CDMA/EVDO)

Open up XCAL and Click on Cancel. A default setting is opened.

The first four windows namely Real Time Mapping, Call Statistics (Current Scenario), Phone Status and CDMA Signalling Graph follow the same procedure as discussed earlier.

To get the DTI (CDMA/EVDO) window

On the icon bar, CLICK on Scanner and the DTI (CDMA/EVDO) window shows up as shown below

To assign port to devices connected

On the menu bar, CLICK on Setting, a drop down menu will show up,

Select Port Setting Mobile 1

Illustration is as shown below for port configuration for all devices connected

NOTE: Choose allocated port for each device. For the Scanner, you need to create an interface scenario for the test.

For PCtel Seagull CDMA Scanner, use the following configuration data below.

To create this interface scenario, CLICK on tab highlighted with the arrow as shown above, and this window comes up;

THEN

Name the Interface e.g. Test

Select the Scanner Type and the Baud Rate by clicking on the drop down arrow. For this scanner, choose DTI (CDMA/EVDO) and 115200 respectively.

Also, Select the Frequency Band by clicking on the drop down arrow and select the band test to be carried out. e.g. America 800 MHz Cellular (fwd).

Click Add/Edit icon to save the Alias Setting and Click OK.

Click OK again to complete both the Mobile and GPS/Scanner Settings.

Illustration below shows the various windows that make up the workspace.

Mobile 1 No Scanner Connected GPS Reading

From this window, you can see the mobile(s) connected indicated by their mobile number, the scanner and the GPS reading of your current location as shown using the arrows above.

NEXT

You have to input the necessary configuration parameter on the DTI (CDMA/EVDO) window namely

1. Pilot Number(s)

2. Channel(s) allotted

3. Start Frequency range

To do this, Right Click on the DTI (CDMA/EVDO) window and Click on the various headers to input parameter settings as shown below

In this window, input the Channel(s) allotted, Select Correlation Taps using the drop down arrow and CHECK box for all the rows in which parameters were inputted as shown below.

Click OK
