Where is XCRI leading?

Use of service-based approaches

The power of interoperability/aggregation

Agile and cost effective response to change

Build a learning, teaching, employability ecosystem

Join to other things to provide new mash-ups

Providing better joined-up services to benefit all users

Identify priorities

Choose what you want to do first

Courses adverts are public information?

Nationally held course advertising information, key data about courses and information used for choice, arguably should be available as XCRI/appropriate open data1

1. Complete, Primary, Timely, Accessible, Machine processable, Non-discriminatory, Non-proprietary, Licence-free Open Government Data principles (Berners-Lee, Malamud 2007)

Why?

Course advertising information can be connected with other types of data to provide richer contextual information for learners and potential learners

Open and standardised course data means that more services can use and re-use course advertising information in a range of different, exciting and previously unimagined ways

Course advertising information will cascade to wider groups and new markets

There’s a Gold Rush Coming!
