• XCRI-CAP is an information standard which specifies the structure and definitions of programme marketing information
• XCRI-CAP produces a live XML feed about programmes, available via a URL to outside users
• XCRI-CAP takes its information automatically from internal data sources, ensuring that it is up-to-date and accurate
What is XCRI-CAP?
• Promoted by JISC (used to be short for Joint Information Systems Committee) – ‘the UK’s expert on digital technology for education and research’
• JISC ran an XCRI-CAP project Jan 2012 – Mar 2013• including 93 higher education institutions• All signed up to producing a XCRI-CAP compliant
XML feed of some or all of their programmes
Where did the idea of XCRI-CAP come from?
• Better information for prospective students – ‘Students at the heart of the system’
• Data interoperability, i.e. to enable information to be shared efficiently between the computerised information systems – enter once use many times
• Efficiency• Consistency• Quality control
Why adopt XCRI-CAP?
• Course search websites• Internal uses, e.g. links to the the HEAR (Higher
Education Achievement Report)• Potentially in the future: UCAS and other bodies
