CINEMA NOTESFollowing the 60th Cork Film Festival we bring to the city another exceptional presentation of the finest in contemporary cinema as well as screenings of some festive classics.
Love is the latest film from controversial filmmaker Gaspar Noé, Irish cinema is represented by The Lobster and Brooklyn, and Taxi Tehran is the new film from exiled Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi. Red Army and He Named Me Malala are two fine documentaries, while Sounds and Silence and Arrows Into Infinity screen as part of the ECM weekend. There is also a selection of films from this year’s IFI French Film Festival, which is touring around the country in collaboration with access>CINEMA and the Irish Film Institute.
Our cinema programme draws to a close this year with our annual screenings of It’s A Wonderful Life and The Muppet Christmas Carol, as well as special screenings of the two alternative Christmas classics Gremlins and Bad Santa.

In the 1980s, it seemed impossible to escape Satan’s supposed influence. Everywhere you turned, there were warnings about a widespread evil conspiracy to indoctrinate the vulnerable through the media they consumed. This percolating cultural hysteria, now known as the “Satanic Panic,” not only sought to convince us of devils lurking behind the dials of our TVs and radios and the hellfire that awaited on book and video store shelves, it also created its own fascinating cultural legacy of Satan-battling VHS tapes, audio cassettes and literature.
In conjunction with the publication of Satanic Panic: Pop-Cultural Paranoia in the 1980s, co-editor and author Kier-La Janisse will host a lecture on this controversial culture war. There will also be a relevant feature film screened on the same evening.
This event will take place on Wednesday 3 February 2016.Please visit www.triskelartscentre.ie for further details.

Murphy wakes up on New Year’s Day to a frantic phone call. His ex-girlfriend Electra has been missing for months and her mother fears the worst. Over the course of a long, rainy day, Murphy finds himself alone, reminiscing about the greatest love affair of his life - the two years he spent with Electra. What follows is a burning, passionate story, full of promises, games, excesses and mistakes. Igniting controversy and must-see appeal at the Cannes Film Festival this year, Love is a semi-autobiographical, sexually-charged melodrama from the director of Enter The Void.
Love will screen across cinemas in Ireland and the United Kingdom on Wednesday 18th November for a simultaneous nationwide premiere. This screening will feature a special filmed introduction from Gaspar Noé. The film returns for a regular run at Triskel Christhcurch from Sunday 13th December.
Please note that we shall be screening the 2D version of the film. Love contains scenes that some viewers may find offensive.
