Service to the Community

Year(s) Role Organization or institution

2005 - 2008

Primarily responsible for the design and construction of the Preclinical Nuclear Imaging Laboratory on the 3rd floor of the Clements Imaging Building

UT Southwestern

Proactively promoted the role of PET and SPECT in biomedical research and molecular imaging; and solely endeavored in the development of radiochemistry and imaging capability from scratch at UT Southwestern with capital investments from the University, Cancer Center, Radiology, and Advanced Imaging Research Center

2008 - present

Primarily responsible for the maintenance and operations of the UT Southwestern Preclinical Nuclear Imaging Laboratory

UT Southwestern

Have been actively providing radiochemistry services, nuclear imaging consultation, PET data analysis and interpretation, and radiochemistry/PET related writings to more than 30 investigators of UT-Metroplex Institutes (UT Southwestern, UT Dallas, and UT Arlington) for research project implementation and grant applications.

Service to the Community (cont’d)

2009 - present

Primarily responsible for the setup of the UT Southwestern Cyclotron and Radiochemistry Facility

UT Southwestern

Led an institutional effort for an NIH High-End Instrumentation application for a biomedical cyclotron in 2009, which prompted enthusiastic supports from six major user groups (Neuroscience, Oncology, Cardiology, Metabolism, Biochemistry, Autoimmunity) representing 25 major users with 47 NIH major grants and18 minor users with 24 federally funded projects across campus. The application was scored 24 but not funded.

Led an institutional effort in 2010 to successfully win an instrumentation award from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas to setup a Cyclotron and Radiochemistry Facility at UT Southwestern: $2.7M for instrument purchases and $1.5M to develop a comprehensive program of radiochemistry over 5 years. In addition, an institutional commitment has been obtained for the facility setup and operation. The goal is to have a self-sufficient cyclotron facility within 1 (construction) + 5 (operation) years.

Primarily responsible for the cyclotron facility setup: personnel recruitment, cyclotron (and accessories) selection,

cyclotron site state RAM license application, site planning and construction including a cGMP radiopharmacy (21 CFR Part 212), FDA NDA/ANDA/IND filings, PET tracer deliveries, and coordination of clinical/preclinical PET imaging studies (humans, swine, rodents). Directly report to Dr. Neil Rofsky, Chairman of Radiology, and Dr. Dean Sherry, Director of Advanced Imaging Research Center, regarding the works-in-progress of the cyclotron facility.
