Dear Friends, We remember Fr. James Johnson, a former Associate Pastor here at St. Patrick's and friend to so many of our parishioners. Fr. Johnson entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 29, the Feast of St. Peter and St. Paul. As we say good-bye to a faithful servant of the Lord, we pray that he have eternal rest and peace.
Fr. Mike
Christ's yoke fitted just for you… At a church retreat, two parishioners spoke of their involvement at their parish. The first was a young mother of three who said that her days were focused on bringing up the couple's children in their faith by teaching them stories from the Gospel and Bible, by bringing them to church and helping them learn what it means to be members of the body of Christ. "I know that's not much, but right now I think that's what God wants from me." A young man who worked for a state government agency said he came to church to be reminded that Christians don't lie. "Every day I'm surrounded with lies, and it's hard to resist becoming part of the system of lies." While truth and candor are not assets when it comes to career advancement in the political world, the state official said he would rather submit to the demands entailed in being a Christian, "and I can't lie without God making me tell the truth." These two parishioners come to their faith with their lives as they are, with all their hopes and needs, with all their questions and doubts, as they try to meet the demands and expectations of their roles as parents and professionals. In Jesus' Palestine, ox yokes were custom-made of wood, cut and measured to fit a particular animal—the Greek word that we translate as "easy" in today's Gospel more accurately means "fitting well." God does not ask of us what we do not have or cannot do, but to give what we have and do what we are able in a spirit of humility and gratitude. A mom sees her "yoke" as the raising of her two children in the faith she has received. A young man in government bears the "burden" of trying to follow Christ in an often unChrist-like environment. Each one of us is called by God to take up the work of his Christ: a "yoke" that is "fitted" to what we are capable of doing and giving; its "burden" of humility and selflessness enabling us to use what we have and are for the good of all, in the spirit of Jesus the servant.
Have a happy and safe
holiday weekend!

DEACON JOHN'S STEWARDSHIP COLUMN
Hi, my name is Kirk Wells. I have always tried to be a good steward. God was always guiding me
in my life I wanted to grow closer to God, so I made Men’s Renewal. It strengthened my faith. God was speaking to me through all I was doing with my church family and guiding me to start a new journey by taking the steps to become a deacon, so last year I started my
formation with God’s guidance. What an amazing first year it has been as I continue on this journey. I am asking all of you, my church family, to keep me in your prayers as I will keep all of you in my prayers.
Ephesians 4: 1-6 I then a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to live in the manner worthy of the call you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another through love, striving to preserve the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace: one body one Spirit, as you were also called to be the one hope of your call; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. God bless to all, Kirk Wells
