High up in the mountains, the sun slowly dissolved the inky mist and a soft wind whistled. Snoozing monkeys began to stir. The babies were the first to break the silence of the forest, calling out impatiently for the attention of their mothers. Sleepily, the mothers yawned and stretched, their gaping mouths revealing jagged teeth. Meanwhile, amongst the emerald green tea bushes below, the women prepared for their long day ahead. With the intense rays of the sun heating their backs, they began silently but speedily picking tea buds.

Scene/paragraph 1: Women begin work, calm and quiet. Monkeys awake in the misty mountains at sunrise.

Scene 2: Monkeys run down the mountain, through the plantation, frightening the women.

‐ Can you create a sense of chaos?

‐ How do the monkeys move? What sounds do they make?

‐ How do the women react?

• Interesting adjectives• Descriptive verbs• Adverbs and adverbials

Quietly at first, but then more loudly, came the sound of twigs snapping, squeals and screeches. A gentle rumble turned in to a galloping thunder as the mischevious monkeys sped down towards the shocked women.
