Just choose the module you wish to do next, ask for our special price to complete all three sequentially or book one module and take the remaining ones within 3 years at the same price. Unlike most other schools our practical weeks are all six days long, as is the week spent in the classroom – which gives you extra time to consolidate before moving on to the next step. Module 1 – Beginner to Day Skipper (Pre-requisites - None) Teaches pilotage; navigation and seamanship; and boat handling - up to the standard required to skipper a small cruising yacht safely by day, in tidal waters with which the student is familiar. Included with this module is your one day VHF (SRC) course. During the Module you will be continually debriefed by our team of permanent Instructors and receive a written report at the end of each week detailing your progress – the good skills and the areas needing improvement. All training is discussed with our principle Andy Williams (himself an RYA / MCA Examiner for Sail, Motor and Powerboat as well as Yachtmaster Ocean). Week 1 Competent Crew This course is designed for sail yachts and in tidal or non tidal waters. Due to our location all our courses are tidal. It is designed for complete beginners and is a great introduction to cruising and teaches personal safety, seamanship and helmsmanship to the level required to be a useful member of the crew of a cruising yacht. You will be spending the complete week on board the yacht visiting the beautiful areas of the Canaries away from the beaten track. Weeks 2 Day Skipper Theory A comprehensive introduction to: chartwork, navigation, meteorology and the basics of seamanship. This course will equip you with the theoretical knowledge required to navigate around familiar waters by day, and is invaluable for learning how to start making decisions on board and if you are considering taking the Day Skipper practical course. You will have an introduction to basic seamanship and introduction to navigation and meteorology. A basic knowledge of lights, weather and IRPCS is also included. The course is a minimum of 40 hours teaching and includes two assessment papers. All our theory courses include accommodation – and take place in our purpose built air conditioned classroom, complete with the latest facilities.

Yachtmaster Sail Fast-track Module 1

Module 1 April 2014

Looking to get your Yachtmaster qualification? Club Yachting offers a unique approach from beginner to Yachtmaster in modules!

Module 1 – Beginner to Day Skipper (Pre-requisites - None)

Teaches pilotage; navigation and seamanship; and boat handling - up to the standard required to skipper a small cruising yacht safely by day, in tidal waters with which the student is familiar.

Weeks 2 Day Skipper Theory

A comprehensive introduction to: chartwork, navigation, meteorology and the basics of seamanship.

Module 1 April 2010

Weeks 3 Day Skipper Practical course

This is very much a hands-on course and builds on the theory of navigation you learnt in the theory week. At the end of the week you will have learnt the skills to skipper a small yacht in familiar waters by day.

Week 4 Milebuilding

In order to gain the prestigious RYA Yachtmaster Offshore certificate you will need to have 2500nm (50% tidal) which is why we introduce milebuilding weeks throughout our modules. You will gain the experience of longer passages, often including a watch system and overnight sailing.

You can use a Day Skipper certificate in order to work on board a commercial craft subject the MCA's codes of practice, and up to 24m in length, and up to 20 miles from a nominated departure point in fine weather and daylight. To do this you will also need First Aid, VHF (SRC), Sea Survival and a current medical (either ENG1 or ML5). We run all the one day courses and can arrange for you to complete them while you are with us.

Please note that you do not have to do all the modules – if you have the right experience and have already completed 540 sea miles, 8 night hours and 15 days sea time – why not join us for our Module 2?

The Yachtmaster Fast Track takes place on our selection of boats including the Bavaria 36, Hanse 430e, Sun Odyssey 39i, Sun Odyssey 42i, Prima 38 and Dufor 455 Grand large. Milebuilding often takes place on our Sun Odyssey 54DS – a great boat for longer passages. As usual with Club Yachting the following is included:

Ø Bedding and towels;

Ø Meals on board the boat (breakfast and lunch, and evening meals when sailing late);

Ø Accommodation on board the boat (ashore when doing the theory weeks) through the course,

Ø Skipper.

All you have to pay for are: flights, travel insurance, evening meals ashore.

Included with each module is a one day course from VHF (SRC), Diesel Engine, First Aid, RADAR or a powerboat level 2 assessment
