SHIPS THAT PASS - Happy Reunions
Reunions of old friends are always happy occasions and one such reunion occurs in St Lucia every winter when sailboat “Tabasco Jazz” returns to Rodney Bay Marina.
Owner Shaun McMullen, from England, sailed across the Atlantic in January 1998, arrived in St Lucia, and with partner Gaby has been making regular return visits ever since.
Two of the people to meet them when they first arrived were dockmasters Emerson Mayers and Nigel, Tiny and Rodney.
Berthing a boat in those days was more difficult than now. Some of us, says Shaun, were not very good at lassoing the stern post on the way into the dock. Fortunately Emerson and Tiny were always on hand to assist, and along
with their colleagues have been giving us a cheerful and efficient reception ever since, always greeting us as old friends.
Another old friend dating back to those early days is Sparkle Laundry entrepreneur JQ Aliendor. JQ pulled up in his boat, gave us his usual broad smile and a cheerful welcome to St Lucia - and has been efficiently organizing our laundry ever since.
Of course in recent years under IGY there has been a huge improvement in marina berths and shore side facilities but what we value above all is the warm welcome we receive every winter from old friends and familiar faces - and in particular our reunions with the team of 98.
MIAMI BOAT SHOWRepresentatives from IGY Marinas attended the Miami Boat Show and put on a fantastic party,which as usual was a great success.

IGY NEWS RELEASEIGY Rodney Bay Marina sponsored a youth team to go to the Scheolcher Regatta in Martinique between February 18th - Tuesday February 21st, 2012. The St. Lucian team did extremely well where Beth Lygoe who is training for a chance to represent St. Lucian at the Olympics managing to take the top spot on the podium in the radial fleet. Others on the team also did well with Marcus Sweeney taking 1st in the 4.7, and all the optimist sailors representing well and learning a lot in a strong fleet. On behalf of the whole Lucian team, the team wanted to thank IGY for all of their support and help in getting us out on the water with smiles to enjoy the racing.
