Automatic SetupWith a focus on ease-of-use, all Yamaha receivers come with Yamaha’s renowned YPAO (Yamaha Parametric Acoustic Optimiser), designed to professionally calibrate the system according to room acoustics and speaker handling capability.

Moving through the range, more advanced sound calibration technology is incorporated into the YPAO system to provide a more professional calibration. The RX-V673 and above incorporate Reflected Sound Control (R.S.C.) technology. R.S.C. takes into account reflected sounds from objects in the room, such as furniture or nearby walls. Reflected sound can impact the integrity of the signal, resulting in a muddy or indistinct sound. R.S.C. accounts for this to deliver the most accurate sound stage.

One Button SolutionThere are four SCENE buttons on the front panel of Yamaha’s receivers and remote controls that provide quick-access to your favourite receiver functions and settings. Initially these buttons are pre-programmed with the ideal default settings for Blu-ray/DVD viewing, TV viewing, Network*, and Radio listening. Each SCENE preset can be reconfigured to any input and any sound program. Using SCENE, your TV, receiver and Blu-ray player can all come to life from the press of a single button.

Super High Resolution VideoYamaha’s new range of AV receivers supports the emerging 4K standard for digital resolution with 4K video pass-through. Simple OperationYamaha’s ’73 Series receivers employ an intuitive menu that can be navigated on the television of the home theatre system. The entry level models offer a colour icon based On Screen Display (OSD), while the RX-V673 and above provide an enhanced Graphical User Interface (GUI).

Bold graphics simplify navigation and allow intricate adjustments to be made visually. For example, when manipulating room calibration settings, a user-friendly representation of the room in full colour is displayed.

Save PowerYamaha’s new ECO mode reduces power consumption by approximately 20%. It can be easily selected in the GUI or OSD menu. There is also a Auto Power Down function that can be set for 2, 4, 8 or 12 hours.

CINEMA DSP 3DUtilising front presence speakers (two speakers sitting near the top corners of the television) Yamaha’s patented CINEMA DSP 3D technology provides a three dimensional sound field which adds depth and height to the overall soundstage. For movies, this provides precise overhead localisation of sound for effects such as helicopters flying overhead, while for music sources, provides the feeling of being in a large auditorium rather than a small lounge or theatre room.

Crystal Clear SoundConventional direct-radiating home speakers have broad directional characteristics that result in a relatively high proportion of reflected sound (you hear a lot of sound that has bounced off walls). Movie theatres, however, are designed to have a highly absorptive acoustic environment so multi-channel soundtracks provide a rich sense of spatial expression. To achieve the same effect in the home, therefore, it is necessary to use speakers with a direct/reflected sound ratio quite different from ordinary audio speakers. This is especially true in multi-speaker home theatres, where there would otherwise be lots of reflections. With the development of the Waveguide Horn, Yamaha has succeeded in creating the ideal home theatre speaker.

Size Doesn’t MatterYamaha’s Advanced YST II (Yamaha Active Servo Technology II) uses two principles to produce accurate and full-bodied bass from a smaller cabinet design.

Firstly, Active Servo Processing speakers reproduce bass frequencies through an ‘air woofer’ – a port in the speaker’s cabinet. This port performs the functions of a conventional woofer whereby low amplitude signals resonate within the cabinet and are output as high amplitude waves through the port. This effect is referred to as the Helmholtz Resonance principle.

To overcome the ‘load’ presented by air inside the cabinet, wave amplitudes must be precise and sufficiently powerful. Consequently an amplifier with negative impedance drive circuits is used so that impedances cancel out, generating precise low frequency waves with superior damping characteristics. The resultant low amplitude waves are then radiated from the cabinet opening as high amplitude signals.

Taking this concept a step further, Yamaha’s Advanced Negative Impedance Converter (ANIC) dynamically selects the optimum values for speaker impedance variation. This provides more stable performance and higher sound pressure levels, resulting in more natural and energetic bass reproduction from a relatively small speaker cabinet.

KevlarYamaha has been using Kevlar in speakers for over 15 years. Kevlar is a synthetic aramid fibre, manufactured by DuPont®, and probably best known for its use in bulletproof vests. Indeed, those same mechanical properties of strength are also of benefit for speaker cones. Providing a clearer sound to a larger audience, the Kevlar cone construction means audio quality is as close to the original recording as possible.

Multi-ZoneStarting at the RX-V573 receiver, Yamaha’s network receiver range offers the flexibility of playing audio in multiple areas of the home. Such flexibility transforms the receiver from a home theatre device into a home entertainment system, providing entertainment for the whole home and not limited to the dedicated theatre area. There are two types of multi-zone functionality on Yamaha’s receivers.

Zone B on the RX-V573 receiver allows the surround back channels to be redirected to a second zone such as the outdoor entertaining area. This means you can have 5.1 channels active in the lounge area with the same audio source being played simultaneously through your outdoor speakers.

Different to Zone B, the Zone 2 function allows different sources to be played in different areas of the home at the same time. Watch a movie in 5.2 channel surround sound in the theatre room while music stored on a PC or Mac is being streamed to another area of the home - all powered by the one receiver. All Yamaha’s Zone 2 receivers support network functionality which also means there is simple wireless control of the music in each zone via the AV Controller app on a smartphone or tablet.

Speaker ConfigurationYamaha’s home theatre packages offer a range of flexible configurations. 5.1 channel packages serve as an entry point to achieving immersive surround sound, while still providing the benefits of HD Audio. 7.1 channel packages provide the maximum number of channels found on Blu-ray discs, delivering the benefits of 7 channel HD Audio Blu-ray has to offer.

Packages featuring bonus outdoor speakers allow versatile home entertainment options including the ability to switch between 7 channels in one zone to 5 channels plus 2 channels in a second zone.
