It is with pleasure that I invite you to Yare 2014, the most innovative event in Italy dedicated to the world of superyacht refitting and after-sales business. Few other events offer such rich and varied information to superyacht business professionals in a comprehensive week of meetings and discussions. Yare’s exclusive characteristic is its platform of productive informal networking between product and service companies and technical end-users, as well as, between the real decision makers in refitting: captains, brokers and a vast array of surveyors, international registry technicians and ship owner representatives. I‘ll be pleased to meet you during the event.

SUPERYACHT CAPTAINS’ FORUM“Round tables” for discussions reserved to a limited number of participants (10 people max) focused on specific issues. Our protagonists, Yacht Captains & groups of companies, are affiliated in different areas of the industry: new building and refit, legal and fiscal services, port facilities and ground services, painting, interior and equipment, electrical and lighting, navigation and security software, brokers and associations.

Each session will last approximately 60 minutes. Each Captain will have the opportunity to move to different tables and have an overall, as well as in depth, awareness of the main topics being discussed. Last, but not least, close and fruitful relations within the specialized areas of the industry will be established.

ITALIAN SUPERYACHT FORUMThe ‘Italian Superyacht Forum is an event that focuses on the most relevant aspects that have influenced and continue to influence the growth and the stability of the Superyachts industry in Italy.

Mixed panels open to all operators, which will include key players in the Sector, will participate in this new edition to intense debates, discussions and will have the opportunity to exchange experiences and contacts directly.

B2C - MEET THE CAPTAINA decisive informal, fast, and efficient way to approach Captains participating in the 3 day event, especially for businesses outside of Tuscany. Every morning the partaking businesses will have a representative space for presentations and contacts with other suitable and qualified guests. Each company will then develop the follow up activities at their convenience.

The morning will see the unfolding of the ltalian Superyacht Forum, organized in collaboration with The Superyacht Group, one of the most important editors within the international nautical market.

T he following pie charts are showing on which size of superyachts the captains taking part to Yare 2014 are in command, under which flag they are registered and by which yard they are built. These are

basic and very important information for the refit yards and the supplying chain companies that can better focus the superyacht fleet and its managers.

It’s interesting to note that the figures related to the size are proportioned to the world superyacht fleet: 24-30m – 34%; 30-40m – 40%; 40-50m – 15%; 50-60m – 6%; +60m – 5% (source Navigo Toscana).

The captains participating to Yare 2014 will take part to the SuperYacht Captain’s Forum and to the B2C meetings with the companies.

The flag pie chart is showing that fairly half of the captains are commanding yachts under the Red Ensign (including UK, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Cook Islands and the Isle of Man), 31% are under the Italian flag and a limited number of yachts are under the flag of Malta, Saint Vincent, Greece, Croatia and The Netherlands.

Regarding the builders, the pie chart shows fairly 50 yards, mainly based in Italy, in The Netherlands, in UK, with a wide representation of the world leading yacht builders as Amels, Baglietto, Benetti, Codecasa, CRN, Feadship, Heesen, ISA, Mondo Marine, Perini Navi, Rossi Navi, San Lorenzo, etc.).

A t the start of 2014 there are 411 yachts in build, which is a slight, but nevertheless very welcome, rise on the Global Order Book (GOB) of 407 at the start of 2013 (Graph A). This figure shows a growth

in the total GOB figure for the first time in six years. It may not be much, but it is a monumental turning point and the performance of 2014 will be a critical demonstration of whether this growth was an anomaly or whether it represents a new baseline for the market. With the relentless drop in total order numbers finally having halted we are now looking at order book numbers akin to 2006, before the great leap in orders seen at the end of 2008. So, how did 2013 compare to 2012, and what can we expect to see in 2014?

What was delivered in 2013?There were 146 yacts delivered in 2013, with an average LOA of 44.5m. Numbers of deliveries made in 2013 dropped by 36 on 2012’s figures (Graph C), and the total LOA also dropped from 6,854m in 2012 to 6,500m in 2013.

How total fleet is growing?In 2013 the total fleet (Graph D) increased by 3 per cent, although numbers of deliveries made in 2013 dropped compared with 2012’s figures.

What is the five-year forecast?Using the statistics of the past decade allows us an accurate idea of what the coming years hold. With very few yachts being scrapped, any amount of new orders will inevitably cause the fleet to grow, and so predicted launch can give fairly accurate insight into how much the fleet will grow. To give an accurate prediction of what lies ahead we have used the average delivery numbers from the past five years, discounting the inflated delivery numbers circa 2006-2008. Taking the results of the past five years, they show that an average of 187 yachts has been delivered each year. With the total fleet numbering 4,836, the fleet should number more than 5,700 yachts by 2019 (see Graph M). Using the current percentage share of size categories, this growth of at least 935 yachts will see an approximately 357 30-40m yachts, 317 40-50m, 149 50-70m and 112 70m+ yachts enter the fleet in the next five years.

“A feature by Gianfranco Simoncini, the minister for production, work and training for the Tuscany region”.

Tuscany is more than a region. It’s a brand appreciated throughout the world for what it represents - like its beautiful places, cities of art, history, environment, fashion and fine food and drink.

One of the region’s greatest strengths is its ability to transform itself while retaining its essential nature, keeping up with the times without ever forgetting its past. Its people have carved out their place in the landscape with a measured restraint, and rather than taking part in a process of destructive exploitation, its inhabitants have adapted to their environment in a harmonious, engaging way. They have always known how to live with their surroundings. And a knowledge of how to use their skills constructively is one of the great qualities shaping the activities of the region’s people and companies. This has led to a unwavering belief in the values of manufacturing, even when national policies saw manufacturing as obsolete, an activity to be superseded by the service economy, forgetting that Italy possesses the second-largest manufacturing sector in Europe, after Germany. Here in Tuscany we have been able to infuse this activity with intelligence, art and quality. We have rediscovered our abilities, realising they are a resource for the future, an engine for growth. Tuscany is Italy’s main exporting region, with total figures for 2012/2013 exceeding pre-crisis levels. Much of the credit for this success is due to high-end production where excellence is a crucial factor, like fine mechanical work and artisanal products. What is described as the artistic craft sector has shown an exceptional ability to exploit its traditional know-how while focusing on innovation. The leather goods industry, for example, has progressed along two paths – the creation of beautiful, high-quality products, and the use of innovative production techniques and systems developed by the leather goods sector, comprising around nine hundred companies in Valdarno.

The world within the bordersTuscany is a welcoming place – it promotes the idea, the tradition of Tuscanity, while displaying great openness, creating links with the world

outside its borders. This includes the kind of cultural interaction reflected in recent years by its receptiveness to foreign talent – five hundred multinationals are operating in Tuscany, and the US Chamber of Commerce lists ninety-six companies in our region. Of course, its beauty exerts a strong influence – its art, landscape, climate and fine food enrich the quality of life in every way. All this is founded by a harmony between conservation and science, development and environmental protection. It is also reflected in the way we think about work. Nowadays we must create work, not profit. We do not need more mini-apartments in the tourist areas – we should improve the quality of urban life. This means that rather than simply constructing more and more buildings we must invest in a renewal that includes greater energy efficiency and the redevelopment of industrial and public areas.

The company networks Tuscany embodies our country’s history, and this is also reflected in our internal debates. They may often be rather heated, but they never lead to division – we are all Tuscans! So we must implement our role as an administrative body and promoter of entrepreneurial initiatives by uniting the various threads that make up our regional fabric. We need to build enterprise and district networks. While a company may be small when seen in the context of the national economy, we can respond with an enterprise network, a stronger, more dynamic organisation with much greater influence and potential. The nautical industry is a perfect example of how they can be set up and run – by bringing together a wide range of skills and companies present in the area into a unique final product. Initiatives like the centres of innovation, including the Penta centre which promoted this initiative, or the districts that bring together micro-enterprises. All these are more than just useful operations – they are, in fact, fundamental. Tuscany is a national leader in this context, and after Lombardy we are Italy’s second most active region in terms of enterprise networks. The advantage is that this does not involve fusing individual companies into a single, larger concern. The result is more of a powerful synergy. Every node in the network has its own profile, and each can act as an individual unit while remaining linked to the others. This creates greater opportunities for all without compromising individual independence.

The nautical industryOne crucial step involves promoting the culture of the sea, pleasure sailing and the way large yachts are perceived. Things have changed in recent years and we all feel more confidence in this area, but underneath it all our region has a rather limited relationship with the sea – real contact is limited to the coastal strip, and there is still frequent conflict between the interests of seaside tourism and the pleasure sailing industry. One way of confronting this is through education, starting in our schools, and through the sport of sailing. We should also encourage the “small sailing” sector – investing in infrastructure like dry marinas, for example, is a way of creating cheap, functional berths with an extremely low environmental impact, the perfect solution for craft up to seven or eight metres in length. The nautical sector should also take care of its own interests and promote the sector by making it clear that yachts aren’t just toys for rich people, they represent Italian and Tuscan elegance. They are assets whose construction, use and disposal provide work for many people. The dramatic impact of the Concordia tragedy may have some positive consequences for Tuscany. If the ship is broken up at Piombino, this could lay the foundations for a end-of-life industry for ships and yachts, a facility that is currently lacking. Tuscany could become the global, cutting edge location for ending ship and yacht lifecycles. It could also become a centre for important yacht operations – design, construction, winter storage and refits, holidays and even final dismantling.

The sailing industry offers wonderful opportunities for the region, far beyond construction. It is a gateway for pleasure sailors – it boasts high-quality yachting facilities that encourage spending and promote the region and its products throughout the world, because it is cosmopolitan and opts for excellence. The quality of life we are able to offer also means that pleasure sailing can help create loyalty among the crews who must choose a port for maintenance and refits. Not forgetting that yachts are an excellent testbed for experimentation – technological innovations are often inspired by the need to meet on-board requirements, and are later adopted by other industries. Take, for example, modular furnishings, a system now also used throughout the building and commercial sectors. Nowadays the administrative focus is on this sector, attracted by representatives like Penta, acting as an interface between organisations and enterprises. Many projects have been launched using the resources of regional competitions, and support is provided for both research and production. Now we should also concentrate on improvements in infrastructure, and the Tuscan Port Authority is currently operating along these lines. From a more general point of view, I believe that more uniform financial legislation in the EU would be extremely useful, with all member countries adopting a similar approach. This would also benefit Italian companies.

In 1958 Giuseppe De Felice founded AGENZIA MARITTIMA DE FELICE in Viareggio, a city which has had a maritime industry since the first half of the XVI century.Aware of the importance of this industrial sector, Giuseppe De Felice's business venture aimed to respond to the need within the sector to have increasingly technicaland professional support to cope with maritime, customs and fiscal problems. With this idea the company was created, and over the years it has become the referencepoint for operators and shipowners.Our decades of experience, our ability to resolve complex problems and our continuous development is our way of being “active and proactive” in an important sectorfor the economy and development of our country and is important in handling big international challenges on a daily basis.In the last ten years we have successfully developed our training department, introducing courses for seafarers - both compulsory, as foreseen by the STCWconvention, and complementary. We are MCA Accredited Course Provider.

Our agency offers advice and training of a high quality to the majority of shipyards, workshops and businesses operating in the sector, both in the local area and inother ports of Italy. This “in field” recognition is the result of years of experience and highly developed skills, as well as the continuous in-depth study of both nationaland international maritime legislation.Yachts Management is our most important activity. It consists in the assistance and administration of Yachts, Italian or foreignflagged, private or in commercial use. This Includes: - Professional selection of crew members; - Crew embark and disembark formalities. The second main activity ofour Agency is Customs consultancy and assistance.We are specialised in Customs IMPORT EXPORT formalities for Yachts.
