Identity, resource and integration of the Russian language
The article discusses three issues concerning the existence,
promotion and strengthening of the position of the Russian language
in the world. The Rus- sian language forms the basis of Russian
statehood, represents Russia in for- eign policy and international
relations. As a language of communication on the Internet, Russian
is ranked second in the world, and in the post-Soviet space it has
the status of a language of social and interethnic communication.
However, not enough attention is paid to the Russian language. It
is neces- sary to create a new generation of educational and
reference sources, to make changes in professional standards. The
return of the Russian language (pos- sibly as a polycentric one) to
the free speech circulation in the countries of the former Soviet
Union will increase the international status of the Russian

Communicative implications of the source text FSP violation when
translating political speech
Translations of political speeches are analyzed from the standpoint
of cor- respondence of their functional sentence perspective to
source texts. The fail- ures in rendering the functional sentence
perspective of English source texts into Russian are explained by
translators ignoring such factors as the purpose and the context of
an original message, seeking exact syntactic equivalence and
reproducing the word order, as well overlooking lexical,
grammatical and punctuation functional sentence perspective
markers. Among the undesirable effects of functional sentence
perspective violation in target texts are chang- es in the message
that affect the degree of categoricalness of the politician’s
speech and rendering his public image. Keywords: political speech,

Developing the translator’s professional and business competencies
within a translation as a profession, a business, and an industry
course
The article highlights the importance of developing professional
and business competencies in translators. The author offers a
course that consists of three modules: Translation as a Profession,
Translation as a Business, and Transla- tion as an Industry. The
course is to embrace the issues that are not usually taught as a
discipline, although they may be explained randomly. The course
will consider aspects such as professional associations and
journals, profes- sional ethics, full-time and freelance job,
organization of a translator’s work, the quality of translation,
launching own translation agency, a translator’s legal competence,
trends in the translation industry, and more. The course could
become part of a curriculum for translators and an effective tool
to develop their professional and business competencies. Keywords:

Sociocultural and linguistic aspects of binge-watching
phenomenon
One of the factors provoking the occurrence of neologisms is the
constant development of breakthrough technologies. The arrival of
streaming services resulted in the changes of series-lovers’
lifestyle and the emergence of Eng- lish neologisms and their
derivatives. Due to lockdown regime, the interest in series soared;
the popularity of the series was also promoted by the Netflix
policy granting free access to a certain part of its content.
Dissemination of streaming services caused the spread of affiliated
neologisms. The paper deals with the socio-philosophical and
linguistic aspects of binge-watching: the semantic and pragmatic
aspects of derivation, the phenomenon of hedonic adaptation and

The features of translation of the Hebrew socio-political realities

The article analyzes the methods of translation of the Hebrew
socio-political realities of the biblical texts that characterize
the system of governance of the monarchy period in English and
Russian. In English translations for this type of lexical, the use
of lexical transformation techniques (concretization, de-
scriptive, approximate translation). The Russian biblical
translations are char- acterized by literalism and the use of

The issues of translation of the national character in the
rendering from Chinese
The article discusses the issues of the translating the traditional
and nation- al character traits from the Chinese language. The
paper contains of a brief introductory history of the translation
of the fine-literature pieces from the Chinese language.
Translation is considered to be the bridge connecting not only two
languages but also two completely different literatures and
cultures as well. It is impossible to separate the culturally
marked units or leave them out from the translation as in most of
the cases they have to bear all of the stylistic coloring and
beauty of the fiction. We’ll explore this topic in our ar- ticle
with examples of small epic genres in the form of storytelling.
This genre occupies a special place in the history of Chinese
fiction and retains its tradi- tional features almost unchanged.
This genre originates from folk motifs that still nourish and
support its existence.
