Almost 1000 years ago a French army lead by a man called William sailed to England and fought a battle with the English army lead by King Harold The battle is known as the Battle of Hastings The French won the battle and William took over England ndash they called him William the Conqueror He built many castles around the country some of which we can still visit todayThe French told the story of the battle by sewing pictures onto a very long piece of cloth This is called the Bayeux Tapestry and today it is kept in a museum in the town of Bayeux in FranceLook at these pictures of the tapestry below What can you see in each one
