New Senior Assessment and Tertiary Entrance SystemsNew Senior Assessment and Tertiary Entrance Systems began in Queensland with students entering Year 11 in 2019.

The new system includes:

• A model that uses school-based assessment and external assessment.

• Processes that strengthen the quality and comparability of school- based assessment.

• Introducing the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).

Program

The Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) is Queensland’s senior secondary schooling qualification. It is internationally recognised and provides evidence of senior schooling achievements.

The QCE is issued to eligible students when they meet all the requirements, either at the completion of Year 12, or after they have left school.

The New QCE System• There are significant changes to senior syllabuses.• New subjects will be available – Year 11 2021.• The new senior assessment model combines school

based assessment developed and marked by classroom teachers with external assessment set and marked by QCAA.

• ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) as used by other Australian States and Territories.

• QCE (Queensland Certificate of Education) remains.

Sarina State High School applies pre-requisites to senior subjects. Pre-requisites are applied to ensure students select courses in which they have the most capability to be successful.

Note that students need to demonstrate at least a C standard in English in Year 10 to undertake any General subject in Year 11.

VET QualificationsWhen a student completes or partially completes multiple qualifications from within the same VET training package (e.g. Certificate II in Business and Certificate III in Business), the highest level qualification in the Core category of learning will contribute credit towards a QCE.

To ensure the breadth of learning, a maximum of eight credits from the same training package can contribute to a QCE.

All completed qualifications are recorded on the statement of results.

Every effort will be made to ensure that student preferences are accommodated, subject to student numbers and timetable constraints.

If you have any concerns or have reason to request Sarina State High School waive the pre-requisite, you will need to make an appointment with Ms Paula Mazlin, Deputy Principal, and the Curriculum Head of Department.

2021/2022 - Year 11 and 12 students:• MUST study either English OR English Essentials.• MUST study either Essential Mathematics, General

Mathematics OR Mathematic Methods.• MUST study 6 subjects in both Year 11 and 12. Choose any

combinations of six subjects that match their pathway.• It is compulsory (Syllabus requirement) that students wanting

to study Specialist Mathematics must also study Mathematical Methods.

• It is recommended that students wanting to study Physics also study Mathematical Methods.

External Assessment – General Subjects• Common to all Queensland schools.• Conducted in Year 12 - Same time, same day over 17 days in Term 4.• Developed and marked by QCAA.• Assessing subject matter from Units 3 and 4 Only – General Mathematics

and Science Subjects, Drama and Visual Art.• Mathematics and Science subjects will have a weighting of 50% External

Assessment.• For all other General subjects it will assess subject matter from Unit 4

SET PlanSenior Education and Training Plan

A SET Plan is a confidential document, negotiated between student, their parents/guardians/carers and their school.

The SET Plan is designed to map their individual learning pathway through Senior Secondary.

Students will complete their SET Plan with their Senior Enrichment Teacher. Once completed they will bring home for discussion and signature.

Once signed the SET Plan MUST be returned to their Senior Enrichment Teacher.

SET Plan InterviewsDue to the new social distancing agenda we are conducting SET PLAN INTERVIEWS virtually during the week and Thursday 13 August, 2020 will be a day where you can participate in a face to face appointment or book a virtual

appointment.Year 10 students ARE NOT REQUIRED to attend school on this date. An alternative school program will be provided for those students whose parents/Guardians/Carers wish them to attend school on the day. It is an expectation that ALL

students complete their SET PLAN INTERVIEW on this date.Students MUST have completed their SET Plan in OneSchool prior to this interview.

When: Over the week starting 10 August, 2020

Where: Virtually or Sarina Rural Skills Centre

Time: Appointments between 7.00 am – 6.00 pm for approximately 30 minutes
