GCSE English Language –Revision tipsCommon mistake that you cannot revise for

English!

It is a skill based exam – like any skill, practising will improve performance.

Identify weaknesses and focus on addressing these – e.g. if spelling is a weakness, keep a personal spelling log – noting words that teachers have corrected and learn the correct form; use a dictionary whilst doing homework in all subjects (free dictionaries available online).

Maths revision

• General advice:• Know what is on the syllabus and understand how it

links together

• Interleave related topics to understand connections between them

• Revision should be effortful: quizzes and practice questions are much more effective than reading, highlighting or making notes

• Mix up the type of practice questions you are doing

• Online resources are great, but you need to practise writing out your working too

Maths revision

• Content:• Early on, make a list

(or flashcards) of all the key facts and formulae that have to be memorised

• When you study topics in Year 11, it will be the last time you are taught them; ask for help if you don’t understand

Maths revision

• Content:• In the higher tier,

Algebra is the single biggest topic assessed (up to one third of the qualification).

• Don’t just revise the topics you like. The topics you want to avoid are likely to be the ones that most require your attention.
