Year 4 – Sequences of learning – Week 1
Daily English Activities Every day warm ups (try doing some of these every day to build up your English Powers!)
1) Read out loud a story or part of a book you are reading to anyone in your home 2) Ask someone to read a chapter book with/to you 3) Start and write a daily diary entry - what did you do today? Write a short paragraph explaining what you have done. What was your favourite part of the day?
Why? Upload to Google classroom if you can. 4) 10 min – Spelling practise (Use your Spelling Shed log in, online resources, see strategies video/ resources list from your school)
● Practice spelling the words of the Week using the look, say, cover, write method (see video/Instructions) This week’s focus words are - -Crop -Hare -Harvesting -Wheatfield -Dewy -Birdsong -Extracted -Frock -Baffled -Attitude -Fiddly -Dismayed -Planted -Muttered

Read page 4 of your dark red maths CGP book. Read it carefully and follow the examples.
Create a place value grid poster using a large piece of paper- like the one on page 2 of your red CGP book. Use
lots of colour and include the key vocabulary: millions, hundred thousands, ten thousands, thousands, hundreds,
tens and ones.
Use the poster to help you answer the following questions.
Write the following numbers in words. See example on page 2 of red CGP book.

Create a glossary to explain the meaning of these key words.
E.g. Crop – a type of plant
Challenge! Use the key words to write a setting description. E.g. The golden sun shone down upon the dewy
wheatfield. It didn’t take long for the crops to dry out completely before the harvesting began. The trees were alive
with birdsong until the farmer arrived… everything seemed to stop. Except the hare who began to run, run for his life!
