Year 5 Japanese Day On Wednesday 1 st April 4/5L, 5R and 5V celebrated the end of their Literature study with a Japanese Day. We all studied the novel “Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes” by Eleanor Coerr. We have learnt so much about Japan, origami, Kanji (Japanese writing), Koinobri (wind socks) and earthquakes. To culminate our study, the teachers planned a full day of activities and fun it was our Kodomo no Hi (Japanese Children’s Day). We made our Koinbri fly, we sang Karaoke, we cooked Miso (noodle soup) and played Sudoku (number puzzles). It was all such fun. We would like to especially thank Mrs. Ryan for coming along to talk to us all about Japan and her experiences and knowledge about living there. Mrs. Ryan brought along a ceremonial Kimono, art, pictures and many interesting artefacts. Many thanks. Please call in to see the paper cranes floating around our classrooms. We will try to hang 1,000 in our rooms. Mrs. Murray, Mrs. Redfern and Mr. Vallejos.
