Regional Studies Programme (RSP)
• A prestigious scholarship programme introduced byour Prime Minister in 2008
• Established in 5 schools– ACS (Independent)– RI, RGS, Victoria School, Cedar Girls
• Around 100 scholarships to be awarded per cohort across the 5 schools

1. Malay Special Programme (MSP)
2. Understanding Southeast Asia (USEA) NOTE : RSP lessons are curriculum lessons and take precedence over CCA activities and remedials unless students are representing the school in competitions
RSP comprises

• Offered as a Third Language• Examinable, marks included• Lessons conducted outside
curriculum time in school • Mondays (3 to 6 pm) – Every Week• No changing of dates since MSP
teacher have to teach other levels on other days
Malay Special Programme

• Scholars will take the GCE-O level MSP exam at the end of Year 4
• Exam format:– Paper 1: email and essay writing (20 marks)– Paper 2: grammar, vocabulary, comprehension
passage, cloze passage (30 marks)(Multiple-choice and open ended questions)
– Paper 3: oral conversation and listening comprehension in Malay (50 marks)
Malay Special Programme

• An enrichment module specially designed by the school
• Key pedagogy: Collaborative Learning
• Lessons conducted outside curriculum time• Wednesdays (3:15 to 5:15 pm),
12 sessions, from mid Feb onwards
• Assessment: Coursework and class presentations
Understanding Southeast Asia (USEA)

• Scholarship allowance of $1,000 per annum
• Annual school fees subsidy of $2,400• Subsidised Enrichment Programmes
including fieldtrips and seminars• Funding for immersion trips in Malaysia
(maximum of $80 per day)
RSP Scholarship

• Year 1 Singapore citizens (PR and Foreigners not eligible)• Not taking Malay or Higher Malay as Mother Tongue (MT)• Those exempted from MT are eligible to apply • Attained PSLE Score of 240 points and above• Will be taking Malay Special Programme as 3rd language
(if accepted into RSP, student will be registered by the school to offer MSP)
• Exhibit scholarly qualities including leadership and other personal attributes
• Passed interview with panel of RSP teachers (interview will be conducted on 2 February 2017, more details will be informed to the successful applicants)

MOE feedback about RSP in ACS (Independent)
• Comprehensive and interesting activities conducted for the scholars in the RSP
• Year 4 scholars achieved average B4 grade in the MSP GCE-O level examinations
• Year 5 and Year 6 students able to continue to offer RSP scholarships at IB
• Majority of the Year 6 RSP scholars obtained Pass with Distinctions for MSP and Grade 7 for History in the IBDP exams
