Giraffes can’t dance Watch the story

Rhyming Can you spot the rhyming words in the story? Can you think of words that rhyme with fox, bat, frog, slug, bee and mouse? Cut out and play the rhyming game with the words below.
A party Choose your favourite songs and put
on your party clothes. You’re going to have a party of your own! Who would you like to invite to your party? When and where would it be? Can you draw a picture of your
party and as an extra challenge write a sentence to tell your friends and family something about the party.
Go on a listening walk Just like
Gerald, go outside and listen to the muic of nature. Listen to the leaves rustling, the birds singing and the bees buzzing. Can you make your own music using objects that you find in the garden / outside?

How do you feel? Gerald feels
very sad at times in the book but he feels better once he has a friend to talk to. Think about how you feel today. Can you share your feelings by talking to someone in your family or by drawing a picture?
Amazing animals Pick an animal from the story, can you describe them? What colour are they? How many legs do they have? Do they have stripes or horns? Can you match the animal to its pattern?

Giraffe Puppet fun
Create your own ‘Gerald’ to play with. You could make his arms, legs and body separately and fix them together with a split pin or draw, cutout and stick on a lolly stick or straw. Then show off his dance moves!

Dance and groove
Gerald feels much happier when he starts to move. Can you make up your own dance routine to teach to your family?

Make your own snake – from a piece of string,
ribbon or even draw one and cut it out. What can
you find that is longer than your snake? What can
you find that is shorter than your
snake? Is there anything that is the
same length?
Are you a cheeky monkey?
Can you name all of the parts of your body? Challenge yourself to do the same with an elephant
or a monkey! How are they similar/ different to you? Which wild animal do you think you are most similar to?
Learn a new skill
Gerald wishes that he could dance and he is delighted when he is able to! What would you like to be able to do? We know that lots of you have been practising riding your bikes. Set yourself a goal and start practising!
