Demographics
Against the government The colonists wanted to take down the British
Government. The citizens of Yemen protested that the president, Ali
Abdullah Saleh, should resign from office. Financial Issues
In the colonies, the government couldn’t tax the citizens so that made it very difficult to get out of debt and pay for expenses.
Yemen is naturally a low income country. It relies on declining oil resources for revenue.
Government In both, most had bicameral legislatures. Meaning it has
two houses.
SimilaritiesYemen Today VS. American Revolution
Military During the 1700s in the colonies, women were limited to
jobs and couldn’t serve in the military. In Yemen, there are 4,116,895 women qualified to serve in
the military. Slavery
In the colonies, whites were the superior race. Slaves weren’t freed because their labor was needed. (abolished in 1808)
In Yemen, everyone is equal no matter their race, age, nationality, etc.
Government The colonies didn’t have an executive or judicial branch. Yemen today, has an executive, judicial, and legislative.
DifferencesYemen Today VS. American Revolution
It will take a long time for Yemen to encounter anything close to peace. With a president like Yemen’s , it will be difficult to get the country on the right path to success especially when you have a president that won’t voluntarily leave office anytime soon. It is very possible that another revolution will come.
On the right path?
