Some excellent names have confirmed as speakers for
this summit and I am looking forward to welcoming you toDelhi which will also have the last meeting of the Yi's

Alongside the Yi National Summit, we would also be
recognizing the contribution of our students and the
stakeholders concerned by giving the yearly awards, the

22 Jan 2013: Delhi
Yi (Delhi Chapter) had organized an interactive
session with Dr Kiran Bedi, IPS (Retd.) & Social
Activist, at the CII Headquarters, New Delhi.
Mr Raghu Marwah, Chair, CII-Yi Delhi Chapter, and
CA, R N Marwah & Co said that the recent events that
unfolded on the streets of Delhi had sent across astrong signal that it is time for change. As members of
Yi, being responsible corporates and most importantly,
citizens of this great nation we owe it to ourselves to
ensure that we are part of that change and “are the
change”. He further mentioned that there is no room for
fence sitters any longer in this battle against 'sexual
terrorism' arising from a wider decay in the fabric of
society due to disrespect for human life, uncivilized
attitudes and a general lack of trust in the system. “The
only way that this battle will be won is if each one of ustoday pledge to wake up to our collective responsibility
to be an active part of our civil society and standing up
to ensure the spirit of our Constitution laid down by our
founding fathers”, said Mr Marwah. On the lines was an engaging panel discussion
organized on the topic, 'Waking up to our Collective
Responsibilities: A Clear and Present Danger' where
the theme was inspired by the recent unfortunate
event in Delhi. The panelists included Dr Kiran Bedi,
Ms Gagan Singh, CEO-Business & Chairperson,
Srilanka Operations, Jones Lang Lasalle (JLL) Group;
Ms Joji S Gill, Strategic HR Director-South Asia, E I
Dupont India Pvt Ltd; Mr Amir Singh Pasrich,
Managing Partner, ILA Pasrich & Company;
Mr Rahul Mehra, Founding Partner, Mehra & Co, and
the moderator, Mr Hindol Sengupta, Senior Editor –
Fortune Magazine, India.
Among the discussion pointers included ones
focusing on women security, equal opportunities and
affirmative action, sex education and gendersensitization and civic engagements, among others.
“We all need to realize our respective responsibilities
and work together in a coordinated manner to
eradicate the evils out of the society and revolutionize
the existing system and build a better India”, shared
Dr Kiran Bedi, while addressing the panel discussion.
“The greater responsibility rests with the 'Youth of
India' and its high time the youngsters realize this and
play a more proactive role in transforming the nation”,
she further reiterated. Dr Bedi further viewed that
“Everyone in the country should get the opportunity to
debate on various public policies, like it happens in
the US and Europe”.
To go deeper into the subject of creating a safe
environment for women, CII has set up a Task Force
led by Mr Subodh Bhargava, Past President, CII, to
lead the initiative and consult civil society, students
and women's groups apart from industry. The CII TaskForce would in turn provide inputs to the Task Force
formed by the Government, chaired by the Union
Home Secretary.

Yi (Kochi Chapter) had initiated a program to conduct
workshops on Entrepreneurship for Students in
schools and colleges across the city. Yi believes, to
enable India progressively grow to a developed
nation, Entrepreneurial trait needs to be ingrained and
inculcated from a very young age with innovation as
the driver. The Nation needs sizable increase in
Entrepreneurs, especially in the medium and small
scale sector to create 100 million job opportunities in
the next two decades. The Entrepreneurship Verticalin Yi Kochi had conceived this workshop with the
objective of inspiring the students to become
Entrepreneurs and providing basic inputs for
successful business ventures.
Impacting nearly 500 select students, Yi Kochi
chapter has held 6-8 workshops titled CatalYist
beginning November 2012. Entrepreneurship is a
state of mind and requires an ecosystem to sustain
and thrive. “These workshops expose students to the
basic concepts of entrepreneurship and instill in them
the confidence to take up entrepreneurship as a
career option. We need to generate wealth in the
country and for that developing an entrepreneurial
mindset and culture amongst the youth is crucial”,
held Mr Pramod Nair B, Chair, Yi Kochi chapter.
In this workshop, students get to interact with Yi
members, young entrepreneurs themselves and get
to understand the charms and challenges of
becoming an entrepreneur. The basics of setting up anew endeavour involving production/operation,
marketing and finance were explained to them using
live examples and the students are made to work out
by themselves all these elements in an imaginary
situation wherein they set up and run their own
entrepreneurial endeavour.

A group of Yi Kochi members endeavoured on an
adventure mission to climb the Summit of the
Meesapulimala which is a peak in the High Ranges of
Idukki district in Kerala. At an elevation of 2640 m
(8661 feet), it is the second highest peak in the
Western Ghats.
The group started off from Kochi on 12th January,
2013 morning and reached Suryanelli in Munnar at
about noon where the adventure journey started. The
12 km road to Kolukkumalai was full of wobbly stones
and the climb was really steep. Though the journey
was jerky, the beauty was awesome; the view of tea
gardens form the top was a sumptuous feast to the
eyes. After lunch, the group started off to a small stroll
to visit the Kolukkumalai tea factory, which is the
world's highest organic tea garden. The two-storied
building, built in the 1930s, with its wooden interiors
and aroma would present you some time-tested
methods of tea processing. Here, the tea is processed
in the traditional method, which is different from the
more popular CTC (crush-tear-curl method).
Camping overnight in Kolukkumalai in Alpine tents
which were unbelievably cosy for a tent life, the camp
was lively with campfire, barbecue, romantic songs,
and dance numbers. But the beauty lay in what was
nonexistent there- electricity and mobile phone
access. The night temperatures went down to 8
degrees and the chill was felt even in the cosysleeping bags. Before dawn, the group was all ready
on top of a rock to greet the morning sun. After
breakfast, they started off to explore the
Meesapulimala, through the tea plantations and all in
all it was a thoroughly enjoyable trek up to the peak.

After a tough climb up the hill and an equally
adventurous one back down to the camp, it was a
moment of awe and pride for each and every one of
the group to just grasp the gravity of the task they had
just completed and realize the strengths that lay
inherent within them.
“Certain things in life are presented to you as a choice
- if you avoid it, it will not affect you in any way- your life
remains the same. But what happens if you choose to
do it? The option to go for adventure Trip to Munnar
was one such decision. If I had not gone for this trip,
my life would have flown like the same as ever.
But by deciding to embrace the option of this
adventure I have added a new chapter to my life
story- a chapter which is written in golden letters. I am
sure each and every adventurist in our small group is
feeling the same after the mission”, held Ms Priya
Fazil after the mission.
